Aim
To find which genre of game causes the greatest rise in your heart’s BPM.

Background Information

The experiment I am conducting is in order to determine which genre of game causes the greatest rise in a person’s heart rate. A video game is an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. Studies have shown that playing video games with violent or disturbing imagery can have short or long-term physiological effects. Here we are measuring the primary.
I believe that this experiment is relevant in today’s society as at the moment, 59% of people play video games regularly, and over 80% of people have a video game console …show more content…
It removes factors such as coincidence or outside factors causing a one-off outlier. To make it even more accurate, rather than using just one person, I am using a larger sample size of three people. All of the players will be male so there is no wriggle room for any aberrations in the results that affect the results. The reason for having all male players is because the female heart beats faster than the male heart by about 7 beats per minute. 60% of people that play games today are male as well, so this is more relevant to the majority of …show more content…
The First Person Shooting game came in second on its effect on the heart rate, increasing it by 60% The third greatest affect on the heart rate came from the subject playing the action game, which increased the heart rate by almost 56% from its resting heart rate before the game was played. The game that had the lowest effect on the heart rate was the sport game, possibly because it has the least ‘action’ moments that caused the heart rate to rise due to adrenaline, causing almost a 35%
