D.The Policy

MISCLLANEOUS • A Student can participate in any number of placement drives till he/she gets a job offer. At times company/university may prescribe certain more criteria other than eligibility etc to create a filter for assessing the students. This will be binding to the students. • Similarly, the companies may also prescribe score-lines of few benchmarking tests like AMCAT etc for assessing the students or prescribe their own short-listing methodology. This will be binding for students. CONSEQUENCES OF NOT REPORTING AT THE DRIVE • Students are required to register at placement portal for a drive only after convincing themselves about the nature of job profile, location and other factors etc. Sr No. 3.1 Type of Mistake Committed In case a student registers for a drive and does not report at time and place stipulated for drive or leaves the process at any subsequent stage other than after pre-placement talk, he will be fined and will not be allowed to take part in any fresh/pending processes till he deposits penalty amount. Rs. 2,500

Permanently debarred.

• Non serious students must not register for a drive. • However in case a student fails to register for 5 drives where he/she was eligible and where at least 2 of the processes matched with his profile, then it may be taken as a sign of his/her non-seriousness towards placement activities and follow up action including debarment may be taken after seeking explanation. OFFERS: • The university shall follow the principle of ‘One student; One offer.’ Thus in ordinary circumstances, after a student gets an offer through a process facilitated by the University, he/she cannot take part in any other campus recruitment process and is expected to join the company for which he/she got an offer through university. • ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER: A student who gets an offer has to communicate acceptance in prescribed Performa within 3 clear days from the time offer was made to him/her whether directly by the company or through Department of Placements. • • In case a student does not communicate acceptance within 72 hours, it would be treated as ‘acceptance’ of the offer and no further correspondence will be entertained. A student who accepts an offer (as per 7 and 7.1 above) is required to deposit security as per applicable slab as described elsewhere in this policy.

• NON ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER: A student who does not accept the offer has to communicate reasons for non-acceptance within 3 clear days from the time offer was made to him/her whether directly by the company or through Department of Placements. • In case reasons for non-acceptance are not found satisfactory, the university shall take a decision whether to allow the student to take further part in any placement process; and, if yes, the conditions may be imposed on the student.

• In case student does not communicate as per provisions of S. No. 8 above, he/she will not be allowed to take further part in the placement process.

SECOND OFFER • The university recognizes the fact that ‘first offer’ may or may not be as per profile/package expectations of the student. Thus following provisions are there to attend to both the concerns. 1st Offer Type Matching offer Non Matching Offer Eligible for 2nd offer on the basis of Package Focus Profile focus

• PACKAGE FOCUS: After securing a ‘MATCHING OFFER’, a student can make an attempt at a second company provided the package offered by the company is at least 1.5 times more than the one in which he/she has already secured an offer. • After securing first offer, a student can also make an attempt at a second company if the university invokes special dispensation clause and declares the drive open to all students or in some cases selectively to some students based on company’s criterion or university’s relation etc with that company.

• However, in ordinary circumstances, extra opportunity at S No 14 and 14.1 above shall not be available to those students who have got one offer and whose employer has mandated that students selected should not be allowed to take part in any other process.

• Similarly, in ordinary circumstances, opportunity at S No, 14 and 14.1 above shall not be available to those students where the company mandates that it would not consider those students who have already secured an offer with any other company in past. • PROFILE FOCUS: A student who has secured a ‘NON MATCHING OFFER’ can take part in such processes where offered profiles match his/her programme. • After securing a ‘MATCHING OFFER’, a student can also make an attempt at a second company if the university invokes special dispensation clause and declares the drive open to all students or in some cases selectively to some students based on company’s criterion or university’s relation etc with that company.

• However, in ordinary circumstances, extra opportunity at S No 17 and 17.1 above shall not be available to those students who have got one offer and whose employer has mandated that students selected should not be allowed to take part in any other process • Similarly, in ordinary circumstances, opportunity at S No 17 and 17.1 above shall not be available to students where the company mandates that it would not consider those students who have already secured an offer with any other company in past. • After the student has secured first offer, he/she is entitled to exercise ‘PACKAGE FOCUS’/’PROFILE FOCUS’ options as applicable. In case he/she gets a second offer, the first offer would automatically stand surrendered. INTERPRETATION OF OFFERS SCENARIOS • Short listing of the student by a company would not be counted as job offer till result is declared. In the event of his/her getting an offer, the same would be regulated as under: • SCENARIO ONE: NO PREVIOUS OFFER IN HAND: This counted as first offer. would be

• SCENARIO TWO: ONE PREVIOUS OFFER IN HAND: If he gets an offer from a second company where he was shortlisted prior to getting first offer, the student will have the option to choose within 72 hours one job from among any of the two offers. In case no communication is received, the one with higher package will be considered and the other offer shall be deemed to have been surrendered. The onus of conveying his/her option in time lies on students. All offers and short listings till now or in pipeline would stand cancelled.

• The moment a student has got first offer, he/she will not be allowed to take part in any new/incomplete process except in the event of a process falling under point 12 and 13 above subject to conditions prescribed in point 14 and 15. • A Student can avail any number of offers through Job Fairs, Walk-ins and from any other source which are not initiated by Department of Placements but he/she must intimate the Department of Placements about the same so that in case there is any verification/enquiry from the company, Department of Placements is in a position to answer the same. The university shall not verify the credentials of any such student who does not intimate Department of Placements about his/her job offers secured independently. • Student Coordinator – Student Placement Coordinator whose performance is found to be excellent in coordinating the drives will be eligible for one extra offer as a token of appreciation. The list of such coordinators will be released on 28th February, 2014. • In case of any peculiar situation arising out of unforeseen contingencies like 2 results being declared on same day etc, the DSCS may have to take a balanced view on case to case basis and on the facts and merits of the case. Any decision taken under this clause will not be treated as precedence for any future analogies. No request on this count shall be entertained. JOINING AND REPORTING and CONSEQUENCES OF NOT JOINING • All students who have secured an offer are expected to join the company invariably. As university has to ensure continued relationships with companies, it is essential to ensure that students indeed report to join at the company where they were offered job by a university facilitated process. In order to ensure an element of seriousness amongst students, they are required to deposit a refundable security when they accept a placement offer. The security deposit plan is as under: Sr.No 22.1 22.2 22.3 Package Bracket Offer is for a package of less than Rs 1.25 lakh pa Offered package is more than Rs 1.25 lakhs pa and less than or equal to Rs 2.5 lakh pa Offered package is more than Rs 2.5 lakh Security Amount No Security Rs 10,000/Rs 15,000/-

22.4 •

pa and less than or equal to Rs 6 lakh pa Offered package is more than Rs 6 lakh pa

Rs 20,000/-

A student who accepts an offer is required to deposit the same within 10 calendar days of the same. Till the time this is done, the offer would be conditional and he/she would not be allowed to take part in any other placement process, if otherwise admissible. In case company insists on immediate joining as OJT, the student will be required to deposit security amount immediately and in any case before getting relieved. This security will be forfeited in case of a student who does not join the company where he was required to join finally OR fails to complete OJT satisfactorily. . However this shall not apply in case where there is a written delay beyond 30th September 2014 in joining at company’s end. A student is required to furnish salary statement of first month from the company in order to prove that he has indeed joined and availed of the final placement offer. Security would be refunded within 3 months of production of first salary statement.

ACTIONS FOR NON COMPLIANCE/MISCONDUCT • Any student whose conduct falls within the definition of ‘MISCONDUCT’ as defined above will be liable to be debarred from placement process and to face disciplinary/administrative action.

GENERAL • • • A student who has secured one offer need not take part in PEP sessions and his/her name will be transferred to OA (Offer Availed) list. Any Provision mentioned under this Policy may be revised at any point of time as deemed appropriate by the University. When a student receives any communication – whether written or oral or by any other means – it has to be communicated to Department of Placements immediately. Similarly, when a student sends any mail or replies to communication to any company officials when required officially, a copy of the same must be marked to Department of Placements.

Dvorak vs Qwerty

...as the QWERTY keyboard layout. The creator of QWERTY, Christopher Latham Sholes, had originally invented a layout with a first mentioned style, where every letter follows an alphabetical order: - 3 5 7 9 N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z  2 4 6 8 . A B C D E F G H I J K L M This soon became an issue with typewriters as the metal arms (typebars) would clash and jam. Sholes began to rearrange his keyboard layout so that commonly used letter combinations in the English language, such as “th” and “st” were further apart, thus preventing the typebars from jamming. Contrary to popular belief, this strategy was not to slow down the typist but rather speed them up by preventing jams. After many keyboard layout variations and Sholes’ collaboration with partners, it was eventually sold to E. Remington & Sons. From there, the company made many adjustments to QWERTY, eventually arriving at the modern layout most of us use today: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - = Q W E R T Y U I O P [ ] \ A S D F G H J K L ; ' Z X C V B N M , . / To reiterate, this is currently the most popular keyboard layout, which makes it an indisputable success. Many things have lead to its domination of the global keyboard layout market but the main reason is the “network effect”. The effect is present when the value of a product or service is dependent on the number of other people using it. Like telephones and social media, keyboard layouts become more useful as more users adopt it. Sholes brought us the QWERTY keyboard...

Keyboarding Arts Learning Theory

...Theory Traditional computer keyboarding classes are so … British! We sit still with our feet on the floor, backs against our chairs, and eyes straight ahead. Basically, we sit at attention! Some students do well at mastering this traditional method for keyboarding, measured by speed and accuracy tests. However, an innovative multi-cultural approach to computer literacy utilizes Total Physical Response, using various body parts (gross motor movement) to act out a word or word phrase to be learned. TPR has been used to teach students learning second languages. Pre-Keys uses TPR to guide students as they explore letter patterns on the QWERTY computer keyboard. Dr. Morgan, the developer of Pre-Keys, invites children to sing and dance and play a form of the popular Twister game as they use their hands and feet to select letters on the oversized vinyl QWERTY keyboard. Observers then try to guess the word (taken from the weekly word list for each grade level). Another variation is displaying a list of words (such as a Spelling list) using PowerPoint with the participants (students) poking or slapping or stepping on the letters. Beginning students (learning English as a Second Language) start with simple letter recognition, saying the names as they hop on letters in rows, in columns, and in alphabetical order. Pre-Keys was so named to describe a series of activities that early childhood teachers might use to teach children as early as preschool age, best taught in small groups. The...

Typewritter

...Inventor of Typewriter- Christopher Latham Sholes (1815-1891) Christopher Latham Sholes is the inventor of the Typewriter. He was born on February 14, 1819 in Mooresburg, Pennsylvania. When he was teenager he moved to Danville, Pennsylvania. He learnt the printer’s trade while working as an apprentice to a printer. In 1837, he relocated to Green Bay, Wisconsin, to join his two brothers, Henry and Charles. He went to Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1845, and became the editor of the Wisconsin Enquirer for a short time. After that, he spent all his time and tried various positions of newspaper. He was then tired of addressing newspapers to subscribers with pen and ink, so he invented several machines, which could be helpful for newspaper, such as the machine that would do the task using preset type and a treadle, and a machine that consecutively numbered railway tickets and bank notes. From 1820s, there were already some engineers who invented various machines that could be defined as typewriter, but they were slower than handwriting, used dial rather than the keys and didn’t go into commercial use until 1868. A design called cast plate, which would be adjusted to bring the desired letter into position and a hammer would force paper against the plate, inspired him to re-invent typewriter. It took only a week to determine the basic premise of his typing machine. A single letter of type, carved onto a short metal bar could be made to strike upward against a glass plate. The first model...

Earlychildhood

...Consider your everyday pair of pivoting scissors — a common tool that every young child struggles to master, but eventually learns to use with experience in your art center. We take them for granted, but when they were first introduced in 1761, they were, quite literally, cutting-edge technology. Today, thanks to microprocessors and the Internet, there are many new types of “scissors” for a child to master — and for that matter, for us adults, too. But what specifically should a young child know about digital technologies? The first step is to start thinking beyond the mouse and keyboard. Consider, for example, that most children growing up today have opened up a musical greeting card. This interaction involves a microprocessor that is more powerful than the first IBM PC! By using your curriculum as a template, it is easy to spot the experiences that support such common skills as language, social learning, logic and creativity. So how do you teach a preschooler technology? You don’t. By merely integrating such experiences into a child’s daily routine, they can try them on for size and become more adept at using them. Technical "mysteries," such as using pull-down menus or knowing when a toy needs fresh batteries, soon become second nature. Again, use your curriculum as your guide. To promote socialization, have two chairs at a computer screen instead of one, and look for iPad apps that promote turn-taking and offer multiple challenge levels. Keep things in balance with...

...keting of Joy ZTE A candy-bar android-based smartphone with QWERTY keyboard that we customized for young consumers from 18 to 25 with low or no income. This phones features a couple key functions that the target expects, such as SMS, music and app. A couple of challenges: * Low brand awareness * Competition of similar products – different to differentiate * Limited exposure to traditional media of the target consumers – live in close campuses, online, travel in buses, etc. Thus the challenge was to how to attract consumers to our product among tons of competitive products and by which way and how, given our low brand awareness. Our solution was to make it personally connected to the audience through a series of product design competitions. The competition includes designs for general UI, ID, desktop background, the UI for key features, like SMS and Music player. We encouraged the participants to give us design proposals and we award them with cash prize. We also offer to pay them copyright license fees if they designs are adopted at the end. Our principle in the competition is open, interactive, and personal. In order to promote the competition, we recruited campus ambassadors in universities who helped us promote the competition on campus. We advertised the completion online and opened our webpage on Facebook to create interactive relationships with the targets, and we also invited the Facebook fans to evaluate the design works.
