Overview of the Movie: Rain Man
The movie started with a background story on Charlie Babbitt who was played by Tom Cruise. He was a car importer and was in trouble with the EPA for not having the cars up to their standards. To get away from the struggles of being around the car business and the constant phone calls of customers he decided to go on a vacation with his girlfriend Susanna to Palm Springs.
On the way to Palm Springs he received a call saying his father died. Charlie and Susanna goes to Ohio to bury Charlie's father. After the burial function he met up with his fathers lawyer to discuss his inheritance. Charlie being distinct from his dad since the age of 16 was informed that he would only get his dad’s car Buick Roadmaster and Rose bushes. When Charlie heard his he got angry and wanted to find out who was entitled for his dad’s three million dollars.
While on the process of finding who was unnamed person who was entitled for the three million dollars, he found out that he has a older brother and his parents kept that a secret from Charlie. He found out that he has an autistic older brother who lives in a mental institution. Charlie kidnaps his brother Raymond played by Dustin Hoffman, and tries to bring him to Los Angeles.
At first Charlie was angry that no one told him about Raymond. Charlie did not understand what it means to be autistic. So, on the way to Los Angeles he got angry at Raymond for being scared of airplanes and having to watch television shows on specific times. On the journey to Los Angeles Charlie realized that Raymond was the Rain Man Charlie always dreamed about.
Charlie constantly got phone calls from Los Angeles that no one was buying his cars and customers want their down payments back. Charlie realized then that he can use Raymond’s autism as a way to gamble and count cards in Las Vegas. Both of them went to Vegas and made lots of money. Then they preceded their journey to Los Angeles.
When they finally reached at Los Angeles, Raymond’s custody owner came to bring him back to Ohio. Charlie and Raymond grew really close on the journey. Charlie was being protective of his older brother and went to court to win Raymond’s custody. Raymond and Charlie met with a psychiatrist where they decided he Raymond should stay with his brother to go back to Ohio. The psychiatrist decided that it was better for Raymond to be in Ohio rather than be with his brother. The movie ends with Charlie telling Raymond he will visit him often.

Recurring Concern
In the film Rain Man one of the recurring concern I think is the relationship people with disabilities have with their families. The biggest issue in the film is the relationship of Charlie and Raymond. With Raymond being diagnosed with autism Charlie is have a tough time understanding what his brother is going through and clearly does not know how to treat is brother’s disabilities. Dr Gerald Bruner believes that Charlie is abusing his brother and Raymond is in it for the money. This is a recurring concern for three main criteria, the first one is that if this problem difficult to solve? Some family can cope with people who have disabilities and others cant. So the problem is no one know the correct way to answer if the person should stay with the family or at a facility where there is less chance for the person to get injured. The second criterion is does multiple perspectives needs to be considered in order to understand the problem? I believe it does. There are many perspectives that need to be considered in the situation of Charlie and Raymond. Its important to see why Charlie at first had a hard time dealing with Raymond and his disability, also Raymond’s view point as well is very important to be considered as well. Through Raymond’s actions you can see that Charlie cares about his brother too. The final concern is that is complex problem related to health and welling? This is a complex problem because we don’t know how each sibling will act in different situations. This could be the reason why the Dr. Burner wants to keep Raymond around him instead of in LA wit Charlie.
Health & Wellbeing: Health and Wellbeing is defined in the movie is according to physiological and psychological way. The movie portraits both mental and physical aspects of Charlie and Raymond’s attitudes towards each other. Two examples of how health and wellbeing are practiced (or not practiced) in this movie is first Charlie’s early perception of Raymond. Health and Wellbeing was not practiced because, at first Charlie psychologically hurt Raymond. He was yelling at Raymond, he would not allow Raymond to do his daily routines, which mentally hurt Raymond. Second example is showing health and well being practiced through Dr. Gerald R Bruner in the hospital. He does not want to Charlie to be Raymond’s Guardian because he believes Charlie will not take care of Raymond’s health and well being. He fears that if Raymond where to fall to Charlie’s guidance, Raymond's physical health and mental condition will get worse.
Perspective Taking Two characters from the movie that have different perspectives about the recurring concern are brother Charlie and Dr. Burner over the authority of Raymond. Charlie claims that he wants to take care of the older brother and that he's not abusing his brother for his fortune. Charlie was spending time with his brother having fun with him in Vegas. My second character is the Dr. Burner. His perceptive is that Charlie is a brother with bad intentions and using him for his wills money. He thinks he kidnapped Raymond and keeping him hostage to get the money. But at the end we see that Charlie’s intentions are genuine and also Dr. Burner’s are genuine too but both people’s ideas wont co-op together.
Ecological Systems The first ecological system that was represented in the film that related the recurring concern was the microsystem. Microsystem refers to imitate family, friends etc. Growing up Raymond never really had a family. His father brought him to the hospital during early childhood, so he never really grew up with love from his family.. Second is the macro system describes the culture that someone lives in. It can bee seen that Raymond lives in a culture were they are familiar with disabilities. Exosystem is the structures such as government systems, religious systems, and economic systems. You can see this though out the story that the whole reason Charlie even went to the funeral was for his own economic gain and in the beginning he kidnapped Raymond thinking he can get the money from him.
Systems of Action: A technical action is referred to as 
how-to actions. They help us control our daily lives, and these actions are used primarily to control objects as well but not people. An example of a technical action as related to my recurring concern in the movie was that Dr. Burner talked to Charlie about Autism. This help with the recurring concern as if it made Charlie understand more about the disability and how to take care of his brother. A communicative action is thought to be a deeper thinking past a technical action, while also requiring deeper communication. This was shown in the film when the Dr. Burner let Charlie take Raymond outside his comfort zone. This was related to the recurring concern, because he wanted to see how Charlie would interact with Raymond, he wanted to see Charlie’s true colors, when living with Raymond to see if he really cared about Raymond. Now critical action, are actions in which creates deeper questions, in which at the end in this case examines attitudes. This can be seen in the film at the end when the Dr. Burner asks Raymond if he wants to stay with Charlie. This is a critical action because at the end, he makes Raymond critically think weather or not he wants to stay with Charlie or go back home. He wasn’t able to make a choice because of this disability he had in the movie.
Practical Reasoning: There are five components of practical reasoning. The first is the context, which in a way asking for more detail when talking about the situation. For the contexts of the issue is that. Charlie’s father gave family’s wealth to Charlie’s older brother Raymond. Raymond has autism and Charlie tries to gain right of Raymond to take his father wealth. The next component is Value ended, which asks for the ultimate goal. In the film the ultimate goal is to place Raymond somewhere or someone who will actually cares for him. Both Dr. Burner and Charlie care for Raymond but the best place for Raymond was with the Doctor because of the facility he runs. The third component is alternative means, which answers the question, what action? In the case of the recurring concern, the action that can be taken is to make sure that the people, such as family and friend, who surround the person with disability actually have good intentions in mind. In terms of the film this action was for Charlie to spend time with Raymond. Which leads to consequences, which asks the question, What if? Like, what if a person with disabilities were to live with people who did abuse them and did not take care of them. The consequence would be that that person, would grow up with even worse symptoms, even leading them to other disabilities. Judgment combines all four of the components to make a decision about what should be done in the problem. In the movie, the best thing was for Charlie to spend time with Raymond, because though the experience together with Charlie, both of them became really close.
Achievement of Communicative Action in Small Groups: Our small group was filled with communicative action. Best example of this is when the last group assignment came around we were communicating on a daily basis to come to a common ground to finish the paper on time. We were sending emails and texts back and forth to clarify any problems we run into thought-out the process of finishing up the paper. My view toward the small group changed from what I had in the beginning because of the fact in the beginning we didn’t know to this online process is going to work. Then later down the road we were working in sync as if we are having the class face to face. I would rate my group a perfect ten because of the fact that we got all our work done in a timely manner.
Conclusions About the Course: Biggest thing I learned from this class is how to communicate in a online class. I never had a class like this before where we had to do group papers without meeting each other. It was a unique experience and I learned a lot from it. From the syllabus standpoint I leaned about different services that are available for people with need and I can use the information I gained from this class in my future profession which is still unknown at this point.
