Ray Bradbury's Zen In The Art Of Writing

Writing is not a skill that every human is naturally programmed with, but there are the exceptional few where writing comes as a fluent, second language. In Ray Bradbury’s book, “Zen in the Art of Writing”, he brings together a group of his essays on the basis of creativity to explain to his readers how stories do not simply write themselves, they are created through many hours of time, practice, dedication and even tears. Bradbury uses his essays to present a list of ways for one to become a better writer and ultimately understand the art of writing itself.

One of the quotes being, “Quantity gives experience”(pg 145). This idea can be found reliable in many different areas of life, from the art of writing to the sport of running, without quantity, there can hardly be results that please. Correspondingly is the work of studying. Throughout years of school, students can find that without the repetition of studying, one will not reap the benefits of furthering their education. Lack of practice and efficiency leads to a lack of growth, which is exactly what Bradbury attempted to portray. He tells of how he would write a minimum of one-thousand words a day, simply to allow himself to maintain his talent. Bradbury shares a love for writing that many individuals have trouble finding throughout their lifetime, yet he found his love at a young age and carried it throughout the years. Without writers, such as Bradbury, readers could not have found their favorite science fiction book, they would be reading strictly biographies and nonfiction that they could find on the shelves of a nearby library. Bradbury, as well as others, did not just bring a source of entertainment, but a newfound love for all
