“Look around you. This is where the path of hatred has brought us” (“Real Pocahontas Quotes). This quote is quoted in the Disney film, where the main character was inspired by the historical figure Pocahontas. Pocahontas was a Native American woman who is usually recognized for her bravery for saving John Smith from being executed. Since Pocahontas is a respected historical figure there have various versions in order to depict the history behind her. One of these versions is the Disney movie, Pocahontas where she shown as young woman who falls in love with an English settler despite the rivalry between their people.In terms of factual information, the Disney version of Pocahontas doesn’t show the actual encounter, the ages of the figures, and the relationship between Pocahontas and John Smith whereas other factual …show more content…
Since Pocahontas noticed John Smith and his men a day prior in the forest, she decides to track him into the forest. Initially, John Smith was scouting the perimeter for gold, but he suspects someone is following him, and prepares to shoot. In a few moments, he spots Pocahontas, and immediately sprints after her, after she tries to abscond to her village. Subsequently, after their first meeting they decide to continue their relationship in secrecy, which soon leads up to them having romantic perceptions towards each other. Towards the end of the movie, John is condemned for the slaughtering of Kocoum, and is sentenced to execution performed by Powhatan. Then, Smith is dragged to a cliff where Powhatan is about to shatter Smith’s head with his club. Suddenly, Pocahontas pounces on Smith, and shields him away from her father’s club, and declares her undying love for him. After this heroic act, Powhatan is impressed and insists a peace treaty between the natives and the settlers, which leads to both sides
