Rebuttal of Obama’s Socialist Designs
An article on the website rightbias, (http://rightbias.com/News/kuhner180.aspx), titled “Obama’s Socialist Designs” by Jeffrey Kuhner was written to stoke the flames of fear in the reader. The rhetorical content and out-right lies do bring fear when thinking about how many people will not review and validate the claims made by the author.
Starting with the premise that Obama is a socialist. The current democratic system in place promotes free capital, private enterprise, and individual decision that promote a free market. Issuing an executive order to stop deporting young illegal immigrants brought to the United States before the age of 16 is a compassionate move to protect families, not a socialist move. Presidents since the early 1900s have used this inherent power during their time in office.
The author calls the executive order “crass partisan politics” and also notes “this is a naked attempt to entrench an imperial presidency,” and “His goal is simple: to destroy the American nation,” and therefore he is a socialist? This is using subjective fallacy creating a rhetorical double hitter, especially in an election year. No mention about the immigration bill currently sitting in Congress held up by a majority that do not approve. Another point not mentioned, hidden by smoke screens of ongoing rhetoric is there are other recent presidents, President Ragan, and President Clinton that passed sweeping immigration reform. The whole argument given by the author is based on False Dilemma Fallacy that has no bases. President Obama is a socialist breaking down the Capitalist system of our government just because he signed an executive order to stop the deportation of young people? This article demonstrates so many fallacies and the sad truth is there are many people who will not see past their emotional attachment and
