First off, you need to decide whether adding Chris LaRossa and Pierce Woodward as partners is the right decision. By adding these two, you are adding the frustration of making decisions mutually with five people instead of three. It can also hurt the record proposal that you have been offered, if you now have additional band members. My recommendation is that you keep Chris and Pierce with the band as contract musicians only. If they are happy with this decision, then that is the best one to make for your personal success. As you grow in the industry, their personal careers will grow by being associated with you, but they are free to go off on their own. The next issue that you are facing is with the impact of revenue. You need to go over your offered contract and make sure that it is possible that you will make a substantial profit by joining the label. If the profit would be the same as when you were going at it independently, then joining the label may not be the best idea. My recommendation is that if the profit envisioned is the same, then stay independent. I say this because you will have greater control in what your music entails. You will have all the creative say in how your CD is designed and how your controversial lyrics are portrayed. Humble Abode let you create a CD that had an okay quality. In the music industry, okay is not good enough. With the new label, you would be able to create a much better quality sound and that can improve your sales overall. My recommendation is to consider whether or not you will be able to generate more sales with a better quality CD. If you are able to do so, then signing with the label will probably increase your profit, which is a main goal for musicians. While profit is a main goal, you also want to make sure that you still have some control of the music that is being produced or you are no longer

...BDO Consulting Segregation of Duties Checklist August 2009 BDO Consulting’s Fraud Prevention practice is pleased to present the 2009 Segregation of Duties Checklist. We have developed this tool to assist organizations in identifying fraud risks due to a lack of segregation of duties. We appreciate this opportunity to provide guidance on segregating duties and recommended practices. We welcome the opportunity to discuss these concepts and our other fraud prevention services with your organization. When duties cannot be segregated, compensating controls should be considered. Compensating controls can be preventative, detective or monitoring controls that are executed by an independent, supervisory-level employee who does not have custody, record-keeping, authorization or reconciliation responsibilities for the process. In the checklist below, we have provided examples of several such compensating controls. Ideally, no individual employee should handle more than one of the above-noted functions in a process. When an organization separates these functions among its employees, it has implemented a strong internal control, which may deter and prevent employee fraud. Segregation of duties is one of the key concepts of internal controls. It is also one of the most effective internal controls in combating employee fraud. Segregation of duties contributes to an organization’s system of checks and balances. The concept of segregation of duties is to separate the following...

Internal Audit Principles

...duties and responsibilities with regard to risk management, control and governance processes. To this end, the internal auditor furnishes them with analyses, appraisals, recommendations, counsel and information concerning the activities reviewed. The discovery of errors and fraud is the ancillary objective of internal auditing. The internal auditor as an adviser to members of the organization As an adviser, the internal auditor examines and reviews the activities of the organization in order to evaluate them with a view to furnishing members of the organization with advice, information and recommendations that will enable them to discharge their duties effectively. As an adviser, the internal auditor merely offers advice, gives information or makes recommendations. The ultimate decision whether or not to accept this advice or information or to implement these recommendations, therefore always rests with executive management. The internal audit activity should never possess the organizational power to force top executive management to accept the audit results. Management may decide to: 1. accept the auditor’s recommendations, in which case the internal auditor must ascertain that the corrective action taken is achieving the desired results, or 2. reject the internal auditor’s recommendations, in which case the internal auditor should ascertain that top executive management has assumed the risk of failing to take corrective action on reported findings. Motivation

...The duties, status and liability of the auditor WHAT IS AN AUDIT?[1] The word “audit” comes from the Latin word audire which means “to hear” because, in the middle Ages, accounts or revenue and expenditure were “heard” by the auditor. An audit is the process of checking that the way an organisation presents information about its financial position (its ‘Financial Statement of Accounts’) is true and fair. In essence, ‘true and fair’ means that, in the auditor’s opinion, the company’s financial statements offer a true and fair view of its actual financial position, and that any assumptions they include are reasonable. We can say that, Auditing is works with evaluating organizations financial statements, systems, projects, process according to standards. It is also engaged with non-financial matters of an organization. Such audits can be performed to identify inefficiencies in an organization. Why Auditing:[2] Audits exist to add credibility to the implied assertion by an organization's management that its financial statements fairly represent the organization's position and performance to the firm's stakeholders. The principal stakeholders of a company are typically its shareholders, but other parties such as tax authorities, banks, regulators, suppliers, customers and employees may also have an interest in knowing that the financial statements are presented fairly, in all material aspects. An audit is not designed to provide assurance of 100% accuracy; rather it...
