Reflection on Free Will I believe in several ideas concerning free will, determinism, and the ideas brought to us by Kane that talks about “surface freedoms” and his idea of “free will.” Because there are ideas about free will that make sense to me in a couple different areas I will try to connect. To start on a smaller scale, I would like to touch on the “surface freedoms” that Kane describes. It makes sense to me that free will is present, or at least more present, in an a example and the fact that we could walk into a store and buy anything that would satisfy our needs and wants. In Kane’s idea of “free will” also makes sense in the thought that we will never ultimately have the final say about our full controlling will. I also like the some of the ideas brought to us by the meaning of the term “Determinism.” I believe to some extent in the statement that reads, “Man’s life is a line that nature commands to outline upon the surface of the earth.” My meaning is that I do not believe that as soon as I’m born my life already has a path laid out and a destiny that I am following. But in saying this I do believe in determinism with an idea focusing on that our choices are so often influence by other and our environment that it is like we don’t have our own voice. In conclusion, I would like to make the point that although we do have free will, the phrase would make more sense if it were called limited free will. There is a reason we all have different interests and this is because we are all different people because of our parents and our environment. This can give us some of our originality but it seems that we need to fit this originality in the mold that is societal rule. Meaning, we have some “free will,” but very limited free will that we should be able to act in the confines of society that will ultimately

...Self Reflection Report to Improve Leadership Skills Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report Self-Reflection Essay What better way exists to examine key concepts of organizational behaviour than to reflect on one's own experiences and beliefs as they apply to workplace successes and failures? In this report, I intend to review a variety of theories relative to organizational behaviour by considering each in relation to my own experiences as a mid-level manager. This reflection will focus primarily on three themes including personality, working in groups, and leadership. Throughout this report, I will consider my own personal strengths and weaknesses, attempting to determine how each affected situational outcomes. Many of these strengths and weaknesses were highlighted through a series of self-assessment exercises completed as part of the "Prentice Hall Self-Assessment Library" (Robbins and Judge, 2007), the results of which will be regularly referred to in this report. In closing, I will summarize areas requiring continued personal effort in order to ensure ongoing development and both personal and professional growth. Nt1310 Unit 7. Assignment 1. Reflection, Refraction and Optics

...On this assignment, I will explain reflection, refraction, and Optics. Refraction is the change in direction of a wave due to a change in its transmission medium. This is most commonly observed when a wave passes from one medium to another at any angle other than 90° or 0°. Refraction of light is the most commonly observed phenomenon, but any type of wave can refract when it interacts with a medium, for example when sound waves pass from one medium into another or when water waves move into water of a different depth. One real example is when you stick your hand in a pond or a lake, and it looks as if your forearm has been bent. Reflection is the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface between two different media so that the wavefront returns into the medium from which it originated. In computer science, reflection is the ability of a computer program to examine and modify the structure and behavior of the program at runtime. Reflection also occurs at the surface of transparent media, such as water or glass. An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made of extruded glass or plastic, slightly thicker than a human hair. It can function as a waveguide, to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber. The degragation of signal strength can be caused by light scattering, molecular level irregularities in the glass structure, and UV-Vis-IR absorption. A Reflection in Sylvia Plath's Mirror

...A Reflection in Sylvia Plath’s Mirror Amanda L. Wilson Eng:125 Introduction to Literature Professor Lyndsey Lefebvre November 18, 2013 A Reflection in Sylvia Plath’s Mirror Sylvia Plath’s poem Mirror (1963) is evocative, provocative, and expressive. According to Clugston (2010) these are important components of poetry. Sylvia Plath’s first line is a projection of the mirror providing its introduction saying, “I am silver and exact”(Plath, 1963, line 1). The mirror is the protagonist who performs a dramatic monologue about the reflections it observes throughout the days and years of its life. The mirror’s identity awakens the reader to the identity of the woman which it sees, but the mirror not only sees the woman, it becomes her. William Freedman (1993) writes, in The Monster in Plath’s “Mirror”: The woman becomes a narrating reflector of herself as mirror and of whatever passes before it. She becomes the writer who writes of the mirror in which she perceives herself and of the mirror she is (pg 156). Plath develops the character of the mirror, and the woman this mirror observes, through the personification of the mirror. Plath’s Mirror, maneuvers through figurative language, free verse form, personification, and metaphor. The primary language of Mirror is figurative. Figurative language is defined by Clugston (2010) as “the use of words in ways they are not normally used in order to create a distinct imaginative effect or impression” (10.3). “I am silver...

...creative destruction – reflections on Ecology and Society According to the article “Riding a wave of creative destruction – reflections on Ecology and Society” by L. Gunderson. C. Folke and M. Lee, it is identifying how we have evolved from paper and plastic to paper to electrons (digital medium). Most people and businesses in today society are using electronic formats. Most journals that we read today are in both paper and electronic format. According to the article “The kind of transformation that the Austrian economist Joseph Schumpeter said was caused by “gales of creative destruction.” In his model, systems change when new ideas, products, and technologies bring about the destruction of the old”. Now that we have been dealing with electronics more and more freely accessible electronic media is replacing more of the paper based one. Now that we are evolving into electronics we have many journals that are going into the virtual world but, you still have some that are still paper and electronic so they can stay in tune with society. Ecology and Society Journal is one of the first entirely digital journals around and always have been. Ecology and Society focuses on the interactions between people, their environment and social-ecological systems. The good thing about Ecology and Society Journal is that it is free to anyone on the internet and has more than 13,000 subscribers in more than 100 countries. This journal does this because by making it free it will contribute to...

...TEN TIPS FOR WRITING EFFECTIVE REFLECTIONS 1 CLARIFY WHAT’S WANTED Before proceeding, consult and highlight the Guidelines and Requirements provided for this Reflection. Refer to these documents repeatedly as you prepare your work. 2 USE THE CHECKLIST As you proceed and when you’re finishing, use the Checklist to ensure you’re covering the essential content requirements. 3 KEEP IT TOGETHER Give your Reflection a definite structure and ensure that it’s logical and coherent. One simple framework is the one implied in the Requirements: start with “Describe your workplace” and move systematically through all the other items in order. 4 BE PRECISE Use language precisely and carefully when describing, analyzing and interpreting your experience. Make sure you know the meaning of any new words that you want to use. 5 SUPPORT YOURSELF Support your assertions, generalizations and judgments with clearly described, concrete examples where these are obviously necessary. Identify any of your assumptions that might not be obvious on the surface. 6 DON’T “I” TOO MUCH Saying “I feel” or “I think” occasionally is acceptable, but using such expressions too often consumes valuable space -- and annoys the reader. 7 Say it simply One way to impress readers is to say things so clearly, simply and plainly that they can’t fail to understand you. This is the opposite of striving for effect by piling on fancy adjectives, “big words,” and other embellishments. 8 Be your...

Marketing

...Price is not Necessarily a Reflection Price is not necessarily a reflection of value because according to economic principles, price is more likely to reflect value in a free marketplace that encourages competition. Value is understood to be a synonym for low price, but value describes the relationship between the benefits the customer receives from a product and its price.  Perhaps economic and mathematical calculations can determine the "true" value of a product of service. However, in practical, real world terms, price is not an accurate reflection of value. Value, differs for each person and society and can waver depending on the place, fashion, economic situation of the times. One cannot designate a price for a product or service but the system of pricing products as an indicator of value is a necessary action in a world with scarce resources. The question of value has resonated within thought numerous times. What does it mean when value matches its price? The two terms "price" and "value" hold two very different meanings - price being a quantified measure of how much someone would give in exchange for an item. Value is the degree to which someone feels an item is of personal importance. Shopping at Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Dollar Tree asserts that price is not necessarily a reflection of value. Wal-Mart where shopping is a pleasure, is that a true statement? Now there are some items in Wal-Mart like cereal, meat, and beverages that are good in price and great in value...
