I contemplated coming in to see you, but due to my schedule, I figured this is the next best thing. As you may have already been told by Brent and Nadia, whom both advised they had already spoken to you about some of the issues in dispatch. I wanted to take a moment of your time and share my perspective and offer some solutions to some of the problems we are facing today. I apologize to hit you with so many at once however, Lt Shea was not someone we can approach and attempt to discuss things with, the lack of dispatch meetings has also not helped air things out.
My intention is that you will make things more consistent, rather than; which way the wind blows. Consistency is the key to making this unit more unified. I get having seniority means something and two of the benefits in here is one we get to pick our shifts and second we get first pick for time off. Our most current spreadsheet is from July 2015. I will explain why this is important. The Lead assigning the overtime relies on the totals listed in order to assign overtime, for example If I signed up for a Friday night graveyard shift of 12 hours and Sandee, James and Brent did as well, the Lead assigning the overtime will go thru the totals to see where each person stands so If Sandee has 200 hours, James has 199, Brent has 150 and I have 145, I would be given the 12 hours of overtime and my total would now be above Brent’s. Without an accurate spreadsheet our overtime can’t be assigned properly. The problem started when one Lead failed to correct an issue when she noticed it, now something that would have been a quick fix is now months behind. Solution: Leads need to communicate and help each other out, rather than allowing the mistakes to continue. Retrain or create a new format that both would agree on to minimize or correct the

It is a shame that we do not tap this rich source more often in our daily conversation to express ourselves more clearly and precisely. There are of course thesauruses but they mainly list common words. Other vocabulary books list difficult, esoteric words that we quickly forget or feel self-conscious using. However, there is a bounty of choice words between the common and the esoteric that often seem be just on the tip of our tongue. Vocabulary 4000 brings these words to the fore. Whenever possible, one-word definitions are used. Although this makes a definition less precise, it also makes it easier to remember. Many common words appear in the list of words, but with their less common meanings. For example, the common meaning of champion is “winner.” A less common meaning for champion is to support or fight for someone else. (Think of the phrase “to champion a cause.”) This is the meaning that would be used in the list. As you read through the list of words, mark any that you do not know with a check mark.
