This course has helped to evaluate my current skills and try to improve the most important to become a great project manager and applied them to my life. From taking this class, I have learned to use Microsoft Project and understand better different tools that every project manager has to use to be more efficient. The Project management provides great life skills and I would like to improve my weakness and keep working with my strengths.
My strengths in this class is my ability to set goals and be disciplined enough to reach those goals by the deadline. This class forced me to become more organized and also plan ahead. There are many aspects of planning used in project management that we can use in other areas of our life. Think about planning a vacation. There are many jobs that needed to be completed before the vacation day. You need to decide where do you want to go, how much is your budget, etc. To keep yourself from getting overwhelmed you can use your project management planning skills by building a schedule, define the team that will be helping plan the vacation, create a cost management plan, etc.
Assumptions.- We have all been in a situation where we made assumptions about a situation, but didn’t validate those assumptions so the outcome we had in mind was altered. If we start realizing while we are planning or working on a task that assumptions are being made during the process, then we can begin validating the assumptions so they do not turn into a risk.
For example in a vacation, if you are going on a vacation and assume that you don’t need to pack certain toiletries or devices because the hotel will have them you could be in for an unpleasant surprise. In this example, you could either pack these items just

Determine the leadership style that Peter Vyas exhibited as he considered the group’s proposal and provide examples of his behavior. Of the four leadership styles, participative, consultative, delegative, and directive, discussed in Lewis’ book Project Leadership, Peter Vyas exhibited a participative leadership style. The manner and approach Peter Vyas used when providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating his team exhibited traits of a participative leader. This particular style of leadership involves the inclusion of one or more employees in the decision making process when determining what to do and how to do it. One example of Vyas participative leadership style was him listening to his team and backing their recommendation to develop a “small-scale oxidation system that enabled waste-water disinfection in small batches” (Custom Book, 2011, p. 6). Once Vyas decided to go forth with the project, he convinced other business units to assist by allowing members of their departments to become team members. Throughout this case were examples of Vyas participative leadership as demonstrated in statements like “The team decided to refocus a second-generation product on specialized applications in Western countries where funding was...

...Span to develop new banking software for C-S. The contract has a one year timeline, and for $6 million. Due to unseen challenges in the development of the software, Span has struggled to meet the milestones of the contract. C-S’s IT Outsourcing Director Leon Ther has been monitoring Span’s progress and quality of the deliverables. Requirements for the software on both the user and system sides have grown more complicated unexpectedly. These changes in requirements are a driving force behind the slip of schedule and escaping defects. C-S has changed their project management which has added to the sign off process on milestone achievements. C-S and Span has reached a point of conflict in their contract. C-S has demanded the code for the software, has claimed a low level in Span’s quality on deliverables. Span has reached the point where they feel requirements have grown and that C-S’s project management has slowed the project down. The three areas of the contract that I feel Span should use as negotiating points are; ‘Communications Reporting’, ‘Requirements Change’, and ‘Internal Escalation Procedure for Dispute’. Once the notice that C-S may have given some data to an Indian Company, I quickly selected ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ over Communication Reporting. The response from Ther was mixed, he denies any IPR violations, denies any change in requirements, but does agree that Internal Escalation Procedures could be better followed and applied. In order to try to save the...
