Differences of models of health and healing:
Body-Mind-Spirit/Bio-psycho-social Model
Religion and spirituality are components of any cultural system which is difficult to clearly separate culture form religion and spirituality as it is practiced in everyday life. For some it is like the air they breathe while others profess no real sense of religion or spirituality in their lives. Religious and spiritual beliefs are often part of concepts related to etiology, treatment and prevention of ill health.
The relationship between spirituality, religion, healing, and healers was very close. It is like a process of reconciliation led by popular demand rather than by either the religious or medical fields.
This model discuss about the relationship between spirituality, religion and health that has grown enormously over the last several decades, and has gain more interest among health and mental health professionals. Religion and spirituality can play a role in how an individual child or adult copes with being sick, may influence medical decisions that are made, and may have an impact on the medical outcome.
The bio-psycho-social model of medicine, is a way of looking at the mind and body of a patient as two important systems that are interlinked and it is like a mind-body connection. This is in contrast to the traditional biomedical model of medicine. This model treats the biological, psychological and social issues as systems of the body, similar to the traditional medical systems such as the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Also it draws a distinction between the actual pathological processes that cause disease, and the patient's perception of their health and the effects on it, called the illness.
Every illness is a desperate search of the body-mind to again to be in relationship with its soul to regain the ability to radiate the light of love. The key of healing is total awareness and we moves further down the healing path towards wholeness (chap 4, p127)
Disease and illness are two distinct concept. Patients with something physically wrong with themselves are diseased but they may feel completely all right while other patients may be reasonably well (no sickness), and if they feel unwell that is an illness. Disease and illness are manage together because it is important to see patient’s perspective of themselves not recovered from a disease until they feel better and their illness is over. The importance to the illness and informations needed to be collect are biological signs and symptoms, patient's psychological state, their feelings and beliefs about the illness, and social factors such as their relationship with families and the larger community. Patients are encourage to give as much information about their physical symptoms, and how the illness affects them. This is a patient-centered approach, and generally involves open-ended questions designed for the patient to do much of the talking. The patient is also better involved in the treatment, and it includes steps to get over any illness as well as the disease.
The bio-psycho-social model states that the workings of the body can affect the mind, and the workings of the mind can affect the body. This does not have an absolute meaning of being a direct effect between mind and body, but that other intermediate factors can form a bridge from thought to biological fact. Psychosocial factors can cause a biological effect by predisposing the patient to risk factors which could lead to an increase likelihood of disease. Some theories says the state of mind directly affects the immune system while most people believe a pathological disease can have an effect on a person's mind.
Body-mind Model
Body-mind model is the traditional approach to the diagnosis and treatment of illness as practiced by physicians in the Western world. The physician focuses on the defect, or dysfunction, within the patient, using a problem-solving approach. The medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests provide the basis for the identification and treatment of a specific illness. The medical model is thus focused on the physical and biologic aspects of specific diseases and conditions. Nursing differs from the medical model in that the patient is perceived primarily as a person relating to the environment holistically; nursing care is formulated on the basis of a holistic nursing assessment of all dimensions of the person (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) that assumes multiple causes for the problems experienced by the patient.
Body-mind model focus on Bio-Energetic which is a gentle process for learning to live more comfortably in your own skin including healing techniques and the interaction of heart and brain. It’s a natural process involving focused attention that helps to restore balance to your energetic and biological systems. Some of the more apparent benefits are greater emotional ease, improved cognition, and increased overall well-being. Bio-Energetic Focusing is a self-regulation process that is easily learned with practice. The health benefits of the body systems are: adrenal gland repair, enhanced gene expression, reduction of the stress response, improved organ and brain function, autonomic nervous system balance, reduced anxiety and enhanced mood, improved cognition, intuition and creativity, improved detoxification and immune function.

Analyze the differences between one of the models and my professional presence.
The differences between the two models of health and healing is that the body-mind-spirit model is focusing in health and healing in a holistic approach while the body-mind model only focus on the body and mind.

My current beliefs of health and healing is in the body-mind-spirit model because I see the body, mind and spirit are one as a whole. I believe that the Well-Being encompasses all our parts, not just the physical body or mind. When our emotions are in turmoil or our mind is bombarded with obsessive thoughts our health is compromised. Therefore, it is important to create a balance in our life by nurturing our whole person, which includes spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs. Taking care of our physical bodies is an important element in caring of our whole selves. It is important to listen to our bodies when they talk to us. For example: pain is a signifier that something needs our attention and when the immune system is compromised it's best to give it a boost as soon as possible.
I believe in the Root cause illness. Mind-Body philosophy embraces the idea that all illnesses surface from a root cause. And although some of your health challenges may have arisen out of a particular gene pool or are a result of your environment, our minds and emotions are major players in managing physical diseases and imbalances
My attitude toward health and healing using the body-mind-spirit is that our emotional states are an important factor in our overall health. When our emotions are in flux, physical imbalances and illnesses are likely to surface. We need to find ways calm our anxious Spirit, find the resources for keeping your mind healthfully active and uncluttered from troubling thoughts.
Lastly my actions regarding health and healing is perform our job duties to improve and increase our health and healing through meditation, visualization, mental imagery and healing, therapy and much more.
Mind: Saying positive affirmations, Focusing on the solution of what’s bothering you is highly effective, instead of fixating on the problem. Worrying only increases stress-levels.,
BODY • Practicing yoga or any form of exercise increases your energy.
• Eating a balanced diet with lots of greens, reducing processed sugars, and drinking lots of water is not only healthier for your body, it also nourishes the mind. In the book The Ultra Mind, author Mark Hyman correlates how “junk” food can affect our moods and diseases such as depression.
• Sleeping is important, ideally eight hours. You’ll feel refreshed and a lot less prone to making poor choices.
SPIRIT
• Acknowledging your emotions instead of burying them with alcohol, sex, food, etc is much more responsible, because you’re 100% in charge of your own happiness.

• Finding at least five things to be grateful for shifts the focus from what you perceive as missing in your life.
• Forgiving others and most of all yourself is necessary in order to let go and move on.
• Praying, journaling, and meditating increases inner calm.
• Listening to your intuition can save you from needless suffering.
The key is consistency and repetition in order to create healthier habits. I know that life can get in the way and some days it can be challenging to cope.
By no means am I advocating against the use of antidepressants. But I’ve always believed in the mind-body-spirit connection, and I don’t think antidepressants are the sole source to dealing with a mental illness.
After a battle in maintaining a healthy health and healing , I can attest that treating the mind-body-spirit is not a quick-fix solution—and that it is possible to feel whole again. But have you have to choose to put effort into healing.

I view myself as being a dependable, helpful and very hard working individual. This areas are so true about me when it comes to my work place. My boss know that I am a dependable person and mostly all my co-workers and friends see me as a very helpful and hard-working individual who never complaint about her assignment no matter how difficult it is. People at work ask me for help all the time and I never say no, I cannot help you. I will always say: “sure, I will be there.” And the charge nurses even made a comment on my evaluation that I never ever say anything whenever I get a difficult assignment and instead she knew that I will accept it and do a good job.
I am a responsible parent and makes loyal mates. However, I do not like to stabilize leaders. I do not like to be in any kind of leadership.
I am dutiful, cautious, humble, and focused on my credential and traditions. Just like my duty is to be a good citizen. I keep that expectation of myself and will not do anything against my duty as a citizen of the United States. I am a cautious person in my thoughts, actions, and speech because I believe that if I am not cautious in these areas then it could cause harm to my mind, body, spirit, health and healing.
I can see myself being a humble and focused individual in my life, credential and traditions. I do not like to pride myself in-front of others, making people think that I am better than them but instead I am a quite person and stay humble just like the Buddha teaching. Staying focused in my credential and traditions are important to me because I value all the things I have and own. My nursing credential means a lot to me because with it I have been able to find a good job and work in the area that I enjoy. Also staying focus in my traditions and practices will reminds me of who I am and where I come from. These traditions are important to me to be, stay focus and follow it throughout my life.
It is so true about me being a citizen who trust authority, join groups, seek security, but not so true of wanting to have prize gratitude and have dream of meting out justice. I love to join religious or/and study groups because I do not like to do things by myself. It is more fun to be able to join groups and seek security because we could learn from one another and help each other in any ways we can. I do not like to seek out prize gratitude when I have done something good for someone because I think doing good is part of our life as a person in this world. It is our responsibility. Seeking out prize gratitude is not necessary because it is the thought and memories that counts for one’s good action and not prize. We all want to have justice in this world and it is not a dream that I will want but instead the justice of reality. The justice of the truth.
