Registering for Classes

The beginning of a new semester is an extremely stressful time for many students. Choosing what classes to take in high school was easy, but in college, there are hundreds, even thousands, of classes to choose from. Instead of the usual block schedule of classes from morning until afternoon, in college, you are given the freedom to pick and choose the time of each class. With such a wide range of classes and class times, one would think registering for college classes would be quick and simple. Unfortunately, there are several obstacles that interfere with the registration process. The past two times I have registered for classes, I have encountered such obstacles and have not been able to get every class at the time I wanted. The main reasons were: 1) I am a freshman; 2) I am not an athlete; and 3) By the time I am able to register for classes, many of the classes I planned on taking are either closed or full. Staying on top of the registration process by planning ahead will help reduce some of the stress.
First, students should figure out the registration date to sign up for classes at Northwood University. This date is assigned by the Academic Advisors in the Church Building. All students are assigned a specific time and date to register online via my.northwood.edu. Time assignments are given according to seniority with upper classman receiving an earlier registration opportunity. Student athletes and students in Northwood’s honor program also reap the benefit of an early registration. Since freshmen pick their classes last, by the time they are allowed to register, they face the challenge of finding the necessary classes to support their degree major.
Registering for classes as soon as possible is very important. Students should make a point to plan ahead, organize, and save a course schedule on Web Advisor. Once the registration date arrives, students can try to register for classes online. The next step to registering for classes at Northwood University is to log on to Web Advisor and click “Register for Saved Sections.” Sounds easy enough, right?
It’s kind of like winning the class registration lottery when a student is lucky enough to get all his/her class selections the first time around. My past experiences in class registration have not gone smoothly. I have had to make numerous trips from the Church Building back to my dorm on registration day because of different issues with Academic Advisors – my high school transcripts not transferring, not having the necessary prerequisites for classes, and finding that all of the classes I need to take are closed. The only response received from the Academic Advisors is that I would need to choose among the “leftover” classes.
I take my studies seriously and have always prided myself in being organized and prepared. The class registration process forces students to acclimate to the uncertainty of class availability. My patience has been challenged more than once during class registration. Although I believe this process is more complicated than it should be, I have learned to take the challenge in stride as I do any other difficult situation. I’ve been told it is just another character-building lesson in life, a lesson in patience and learning to expect and accept a few bumps in the road.

Do You Have To Wait For People To Register For Classes

...Do you have to wait for people to register for classes? Are you tired of waiting? Well, I am tired of waiting to register for classes. I am usually the last group of people to register. Most of the classes I want or the time I want are already filled up. I think it's unfair for some people to have a head start in registering than others. I am a freshman and I have to wait until everyone register. I have to take classes and times people don't want. Sometimes I can't wake up to my 8 am classes. Taking early classes sucks. In the morning, sometimes you don't want to go to school or didn't get enough sleep. I have to change my schedule that I wanted to take last term because the classes are already full by the time it comes to me. According to...

...exam and still received a 60%. I was very stressed and upset over this exam because that was my worst exam score in a long time, yet I studied far more on this exam than any previous exam in my life. I liked the challenge that came along with this course so I did not drop by the date, but the topics are continually getting more and more difficult. So much so, that I have not even been paying attention to my vastly more important business related classes because of the prodigious amount of stress and attention GEOL 1020 requires. I was never informed that this class builds upon the information learned in GEOL 1010 when registering for classes. The only information I was told when scheduling for my classes first semester was that 1000 level classes were introductory, not realizing that some 1000 level classes are follow ups from the prerequisite class. I realize students are responsible for reading and adhering to prerequisites, but feel this is an unfair policy for students who received little guidance and support registering for classes when paying a vast amount for their education. Additionally, a pertinent reason I did not drop this class...

Registration Fustration

...Ronelle Professor Benas English 85 September 23, 2014   Registration Frustration On July 13, I decided to return to Merced College after not attending school for some time. Going back to school was a big decision that I thought about for the last two semesters. I always seem to have a lot going on and it was just something that crossed through my mind from time to time. I never imagined I could find a way to make it happen until the day I decided that I needed to go back to college. Upon enrolling in school, I have experienced college-related stress while registering, financing my education, and enrolling in classes. In the summer of 2014, I was looking at the college website attempting to figure out the process for registering at Merced College. While looking at the website, I could not find the assessment testing schedule. I knew previously I had seen the schedule online, but I couldn’t find it this time. It was a mistake to assume that the college was not offering assessment testing during the summer. A professor from Merced College checked into the motel where I work. She stated she needed time away from home to grade papers. I started to talk to her and mentioned to her I wanted to attend college, but I could not find the assessment dates. She advised me to start the registration process then go to the college and I could find out the dates from there. She then encouraged me by saying I was making an excellent decision to return to school and wished me...

Jesse L Jackson's Speech

...Montevallo, Alabama about unity in the United States of America. To begin his speech, Jackson stated, “I can learn, will learn, and must learn.” He mentioned his childhood classes; the way the schools were segregated and how he knew which class to take to get out of doing hard work. Anyone “can learn” to love someone of different cultures, people just have to be willing to branch their social circle out. You have to tell yourself that you “will learn” to love men, women, and children that are different from one’s self. Everyone “must learn.” Even if that learning is not in education, this statement, presented before the students, may include the learning that one must have to love people of another ethnicity....

Deciision Making Paper

...all this work, I began my decision-making process. I found I had two solution options; either enroll in an on-campus program, or enroll in online schooling. I knew that with an on-campus program I would need childcare while I was at work, as well as school. It would also cut back on my family time. The online courses were sounding better by the second. However, I still had to figure out how I would pay for my courses. I then turned to family and friends to get their feedback and see if they had heard of any online programs that were better than others. A friend and coworker had been taking classes through the University of Phoenix (UOPX) for almost a year and loved it. With all the benefits she told me about including being able to further my education, saving money on childcare, still having family time, and financial aid options, I decided to pursue online classes through...
