The process revealed my career interests, competencies, work culture preferences, and thinking style. It also helped me identify strengths and weaknesses that will be key throughout my career. My interest profiler results were realistic, conventional, and social. Although I did not agree with most of the job titles listed, I definitely identified with the interests. Realistic occupations regularly involve practical activities, hands-on problems, and solutions. Conventional occupations follow set procedures and routines, and social occupations work with, communicate with, and teach people. The BCOM/275 program has provided me with many practical applications I can use to attain my career interest goals. During the career competencies exercise, I received 4 of 5 marks in the areas of adapting to change, writing, and logical thinking. I received only 3 of 5 marks for organizing, strategizing, delivering results. Although the exercise helped me validate traits I “thought I had,” it also made me realize there is much I need to improve. ...Mockingjay - Reflection The 2010 science fiction novel Mockingjay, written by Suzanne Collins, comments on the role that faith has in the world and on human endeavour. This specific book of a three part series focuses on the main character Katniss Everdeen as she recovers from her second Hunger Games, her home District, 12, which was burnt down by the government and from losing close friends who were taken prisoner. The novel starts with reluctantly adapting to a very structured and set life in District 13 and being manipulated into becoming the Mockingjay, poster child, for the rebellion. Convincing her to do this was made easy when Katniss finds out that Peeta is being kept prisoner in the Capitol and is being tortured, she felt she had no other choice but to do anything she could to have him rescued. The reader follows her through her journey of uprising against the Capitol and changing the fate of Panem. The novel, Mockingjay, explores themes including loyalty, death, family and hope as well as tackling issues such as poverty, starvation, oppression and the effects of war. Katniss Everdeen must deal with being betrayed and violence against her and those who she wants desperately to protect. She has to realise that she cannot trust those around her and that she must make decisions that will benefit her. ...High School Relfection Over the past four years my high school experience has shaped the person I am today. It has affected me vastly in all areas of my life. It has driven me to be more ambitious, more community minded and more conscientious. ACLC has also helped me be a part of several communities not just one, it has allowed me to make connections at Encinal High School, College of Alameda and within the ACLC community. My high school experience has ultimately taught me the basic knowledge that I will need in life in all the general education fields, how to solve problems which do not have obvious answers, and how to work effectively either with others or alone. The education I have received over the past few years at ACLC has been predictably unconventional. In all subjects from math and science to language arts and history we have approached the material in creative and unusual ways, though all these methods have been quite effective. I have been able to work on five languages and have become competent reading, writing, speaking and listening in three through the various language programs offered by our school. Additionally I have completed college calculus and have created science projects which have placed at the regional science fair. I have also learned to appreciate the importance of communication through effective speech and debate in various clubs and through media in classes like DVS.
