Economic Analysis

The country is a merged form of six states in 1971 and together they formed United Arab Emirates. It is one of the prospering economies of the world whose per capital income is in par with some of the most developed nations of Europe. This is attributable to the oil revenues and the booming real estate market. UAE is also now fast developing as alternative luxury tourist destination. However, the falling oil prices, banking crisis and turbulence in the real estate have done a lot of damage to the economy.

The economy of UAE is open with the high living standard of the people and equally higher per capital income with the annual trade surpluses as well. In the last 30 years, the economy of UAE has always been known as that of based on oil and oil products but some serious efforts in last two decades has changed this scenario and now the GDP of UAE based on oil and natural gas is just 25%. The government is now quite concerned with the creation of jobs, creation of world class infrastructure and opening up its many areas for the private players. The country is also now committed in making UAE a truly world class destination for commercial and residential space with some very unique ideas and projects. The year 2009 has not been very good for the economy and the economy saw a drop of 4% drop in GDP due to the falling oil prices, financial crisis, tight international credits and recession in the real estate market. In the year 2009, the greatest set back to the economy came from the depressed real estate prices in Dubai

Lafarge Business Analysis

...operational elements to regularly keep up with the changing market place and sustain it’s leading role. The restructuring of the organization has vastly improved performance. Grouping the cement and the concrete division under the same country manager instead of having two enables specific focus to the end consumer as well as cutting unnecessary internal costs. After organizational restructuring, the company changed it’s geographical focus going from the normal traditional structures in place in Asia, Middle East, Europe and North America, to new adaptable structures in emerging markets. This change included dividing operations into 3 regions, so that each center would be a mix of both emerging and developing – this way. Weaker markets could piggyback on the benefits of developed regions. This approach stemmed from the reality that emerging countries are driving sustainable needs for infrastructure and housing. Changing the product portfolio and market differentiation remained a top priority for Lafarge. Two main projects have been launched by the Boston Company Group, to achieve the right balance of product and market differentiation. BCG launched the Extra Mile and the RTM (Route to Market) projects. The two projects aim to change the product portfolio by adapting the cement characteristics through changing additive quantities, and production processes using...

...Pak-AIMS (Institute of Management Science | Top Three Export Commodities of Pakistan | | Program: MBA (Evening) Submitted To: Sir Abdul Qayyum Qureshi Submitted By: Muhammad Tayyab Roll # 111405 Top Three Export Commodities of Pakistan Rice: Rice Export in 2012-13: PAKISTAN’S basmati rice exports are showing signs of an upswing after suffering a plunge in the first six months of this fiscal year because of domestic higher prices, poor marketing and lower prices of India’s basmati. In January 2013, basmati exports were up by 15 per cent, reaching 43,718 metric tonnes compared to 38,294 tonnes in January 2012. Traders are optimistic that the commodity would regain normal levels before the end of the current fiscal year as the price gap between Indian and Pakistani basmati rice has started narrowing. India has been selling rice at a price lower than Pakistan’s – at $100 per tonne against Pakistan’s $1,100-1,150 per tonne. According to Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) Pakistan exported 21,000 metric tonnes basmati rice during the first week of March 2013. Total rice exports during July 2012 to February 2013 have already touched more than $1 billion mark, and during the July-March period, the country exported around 350,000 tonnes, and two million tonnes non-basmati rice. Meanwhile, China has become a major market for Pakistani non-basmati rice, and a record sale of 72,623 tonnes, worth $30 million, took place in January 2013 alone. Besides...
