Foundations of Your Own Business

RES/351
November 3, 2013

Foundation of Your Own Business The process of starting your own business begins with one thing, research. First you must collect and then process it into information that can be used to define more details on where you should open a place, how you should run or open it, and how you should operate it. You should also look into the market or what type of customers that you will be serving in that area. I plan on opening some sort of baseball academy in my hometown in New Jersey. There is a lot of work that goes into even the thought of starting a business like that. First you have to find out what the cost of something like that up front would be. Also you must find out what it will cost to maintain the business or the overhead. That includes things like the payroll, supply costs, taxes, and rent. One of the most important things to research when starting a business locally or even nationally is to research the competition. You should find out what pricing or promotions they use for things similar to what you offer. This is how you can lay a great foundation and get clientele right away but also remains competitive with them. These are all things that can lead to success from the start. Researching the demographics can also play a huge roll into what type of customers are going to come in and what they are going to pay versus what you charge. All of this is crucial when it comes to staying in business but also being successful. When you are up and running a big thing to look into would be something like customer satisfaction. This can help your company out a lot. By researching but people would like different or what they liked versus what they didn’t like you can try and please as many people as possible to make sure that everyone is happy. It seems to me that good companies do their respective

Res/351 Week 2 Reflection Summary

...Team Week 2 Reflection Summary RES/351 Team C Week 2 Reflection Summary Week 1 taught us the importance of learning about business research. Business research is important because it helps business owners find solutions to problems they may have within their company. If one wonders why he or she is not getting more customers, researching the problem is a great way to find an answer or multiple answers to this question or problem. Even though it is good to do research it is just as important to know how to research a problem. Good scientific method standards are important because it generates dependable data that executives use to make reliable and accurate decisions within the company. If scientific method standards are not met, it produces unreliable data that executives cannot use, which is a waste of time. It highly increases the risk of the managers making decisions for the business. In week one the focus was to understand how business research improves managerial decision making. The research process starts with clarifying the research question that involves defining the dilemma. Stage two of the research process is proposing research that includes resource allocation and budgets. The next two stages of the process are designing the research project and data collection and preparation. The results can be communicated in various ways, but should always be from the researcher’s perspective. We learned there are ethical dilemmas managers face when using business...

Res/351 Week 2 Reflection Summary

...Internal and External Factors Team A Executives, managers and companies, would not exist if these four fundamentals were not applied; planning, organizing, leading and managing. It takes these four key elements to run a business no matter how small or large the business is. Planning is the first function; here is where expectations and goals are set to be achieved. Organizing is next, here is where management assembles and coordinates human, financial, physical, informational and other resources needed to achieve the goals (Bateman & Snell, 2011). From there, we move onto leading; where management shows that they are good leaders. By stimulating their employees in a positive way to produce and perform at exceptional high rates with quality work. Lastly, there is managing. Bateman and Snell (2011) stated, "By managing, managers make sure the company's resources are being used as planned and that the business is meeting its goals" (p. 16). These four functions affect a business internally as well as externally as well as globalization, technology, innovation, diversity and ethics. Globalization externally has become more popular since companies now able to access the internet. Before the internet companies would have to search for a product locally, now with the internet companies have the option to search and order a part from any part of the world as well as selling their product. Globalization internally allows a business to be based in another country; managers would...

Business Research Article

...Business Research Article Dorene Herod-Nelson RES/351-Business Research August 28,2013 Esmaail Nikjeh Business Research Article When it comes to business research, all parties involved must be on the same page. There has to be a common goal everyone is trying to reach in order for the research to evolve as it should. One great way to research a product or even find out about customer service in a restaurant is by giving surveys. Now personally I do surveys about once a week through different organizations, where they are doing research on anything from the kind of soap you use to the gas station you most likely get gas from and why. This is a marketing tool to help them develop a better product or to fix the existing one. When a manufacturer comes out with a new product, surveys from consumers can really be key to developing the best product. They can research the size of the product, how much it should cost, where it should be sold, or even additional places it should be sold, and also the packaging may be the issue with the consumer. Those are the advantages of business surveys. “Manufacturers have a lot to think about when designing their products. Packaging plays received packaging can get neglected by consumers. That’s because it’s what happens once the product hits the store that can make a world of difference between bright profit margins and dull performances.”1 ( http://www.macorr.com/blog/?cat=4) “The first step is identifying key competitors in...

...RES/351 Worksheet for Week Three Team Assignment: Preparing to Conduct Business Research: Part 1 Select an issue, opportunity, or problem facing a real organization of your choice. Made up organizations are not acceptable. Fill out this worksheet by answering these questions in complete sentences with citations (for both direct quotes and paraphrased material as you support your answers). The cells will expand to make room for the detail required. Please do not use bold font in your answers. | Give a short background of the issue, opportunity, or problem facing a real organization of your choice: Apple continues to lose valuable smartphone market share to Android. Apple’s market share of the smartphone dropped from 17% to 13% in the last quarter while Android continues to dominate with a 79% market share (Pimentel, 2013). One of the glaring reasons for the loss in market share is that Apple has not introduced any new innovations to the smartphone lineup for over a year (Pepitone, 2013). The competition has been able to release new products much faster than Apple. | What is your primary research question? Why has Apple’s market share dropped from 17% to 13% in the last quarter? | * What is your primary hypothesis? If Apple implements new innovations to the future iPhone lineup, then the market share value will increase in the following quarter. | * What is your independent variable for this study? Why? * * The independent variable would be the new innovations...

Www Exercise

...WWW Exercise Mariano E Melendez RES 351 February 14, 2014 Dr. Wright WWW Exercise I was fortunate to find an article that touched upon several points I addressed via the weeks’ discussion questions. Much of the article was regarding methods of collecting data using modern technology. The author’s suggestion was to use the newer methods “in conjunction with tried-and-true research methods” (Thomas, 2013). The reasoning is, “they just might help us identify fresh solutions to a range of marketing problems” (Thomas, 2013). Some of the technologies discussed within the article include video cameras, GPS, and near-field communication (NFC). According to the article, video cameras are a good way, for respondents to a survey, to record videos of different settings and events and submit them as part of their answers to the surveys. The article continues to suggest GPS can be used to plot “traffic patterns through shopping centers, neighborhoods and cities” (Thomas, 2013). The suggestion is also made that “surveys can be triggered at particular geographic points” using GPS (Thomas, 2013). A new concept introduced to me through this article is that of NFC. NFC is a system that permits radio communication between smartphones and other devices by bringing the devices together. A system currently in place that uses this technology is Google Wallet. Google Wallet is a method of replacing traditional credit cards. The author of the article explains that qualitative research benefits...
