In a nutshell, BIOS is software that interacts between a computer’s hardware and the operating system and software applications. There are several types of BIOS', ranging from the motherboard ROM BIOS to adapter BIOS' such as video BIOS, drive controller BIOS, network adapter BIOS, SCSI adapter BIOS, etc... These BIOS' are the lowest level of software in a computer providing a set of small programs or software routines that allow the hardware of a computer to interact with the operating system by a set of standard calls. The Boot Process To get to the operating system, a computer must first boot from the BIOS. The BIOS performs a number of tasks when a computer is started. From initializing the microprocessor to initializing and testing hardware to starting the operating system. Starting a computer is not a simple task. It's a methodical process that is performed every time power is applied to computer. Here is a detailed description of the boot process. This process will vary with different computers and different BIOS', but the overall goal is the same. My reasoning behind why I chose this topic is because I’ve been an avid PS user since the PS1 had come out years ago. Although Xbox has been out just as long, I never really got into the whole Xbox thing. PS4 has come out with some new improvements such as the 10 % increase in the clock frequency and 15 % improvement in instructions clock as well. Its added support for SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES, CLMUL, MOVBE, AVX, F16C, and BMI1. It now has up to 4 CPU cores, up to 2MB 16-way associative L2 shared cache for 4 cores. It improved the Turbo Dock Technology, the FPU datapath width increased to 128 bit. It added a hardware integer divider, enhanced its cache prefetchers, doubled bandwidth of load/store units, the C6 and CC6 have low power states and also has 3.1mm squared area per core. The PS4 also runs at a higher native resolution making a better gameplay experience with powerful graphics and speed. The improvements to the controller are amazing as well. ...The Possibilities of Birth Control Funding According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, nineteen percent of all pregnancies in America are unwanted, and twenty-three percent of pregnancies end in abortions (Eagle), with these statistics and political support the American government is pushing a bill for insurance to fund birth control and other preventative services. Funding would eliminate the need of a co-payment or fee for the pills and services that could help teenagers and women alike. Despite the argument of Roman Catholic religious officials, conservatives, and those who say birth control encourages promiscuity. Birth control is a very common method of family planning and in some cases goes beyond that. Birth Control and other preventative services should be free to women to prevent unwanted pregnancies, improve women’s success rates, and help prevent disease. Unwanted pregnancy is very controversial issues in today’s society, with limited options for the pregnant mother, abortion and keeping the unborn child is one of the hardest decisions. The abortion rate of those [unwanted] children is almost as high as the birth rate (Eagle).
