...Being accepted into one of Penn State’s Accelerated programs is an incredible merit. Only the finest students are chosen, who may demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These traits are highly beneficial to gain, especially when seeking a job, and doing well in your job. Owning these traits, would also help one be a superior dentist. In my 17 years, I believe I have actively demonstrated these characteristics. One of the most beneficial attributes as a high school student is scholarship. I currently have a 97 career GPA, as well, I am taking 2 AP classes and have taken 2 AP courses in my junior year. Each year since 8th grade, I've also enrolled in 2 sciences classes. I take honors classes if the option is available. On top of keeping my grades up in high school, I also take online college classes through Clarion University. I've taken College Writing and U.S. History, receiving an A in both classes. The leadership trait in me shines when I am on a softball field. I am a captain on 3 teams: A-C Valley softball team, A-C Valley cross country team and ROC Elite traveling softball team. Being a leader on two teams, it is critical that I always be the best I can. When I'm down, so is my team, which is why it is important for me to be positive and inspire my teammates to be positive too. To the younger players, I must lead by example. I strive to help, encourage, and demonstrate confidence to my fellow teammates. Daily, I aim to give a helping hand where is needed...

...I am a junior in the UM-Flint nursing program, and I believe that my chosen profession will enable me to fulfill my desire to help others, to expand my knowledge base, and to travel. Throughout my life, I have participated in extracurricular activities, including valuable volunteer experiences. I have striven for academic excellence, always managing to work to provide some of my basic educational expenses. While in high school, I took challenging courses, such as advanced placement English and calculus, physics, and chemistry. I enjoyed the arts and was involved in art, band, and choir. I was able to maintain an excellent GPA, allowing me to graduate with honors. In addition to school related activities, I am involved with my local church. I teach a class of 3-6 year olds. I have participated in community cleanup, nursery day, and choir. I feel that by participating in community-related activities I am setting a positive example for the children. Although education plays a significant role in my life, I am involved with many other activities. During high school, I was an active member of several clubs, and served as treasurer and president. I frequently tutored middle school students. I enjoy the arts and participated in many performances; often involving travel to other parts of the United States. I belong to the National Student Nurses Association, and I have volunteered my time to inform individuals about what nursing involves. I have also done community work, such as blood...

...Harry Harrison once said, “The principles we live by, in business and in social life, are the most important part of happiness.” My most valued principle to live by is that if I enjoy my work then I will never work a day in my life and is the reason I am pursing a nephrology fellowship. Nephrology offers many challenges involving the complexities of both acid/base and fluid/ electrolyte disorders requiring a comprehensive knowledge for diagnosis and management. As a future nephrologist I will be able to blend pathophysiology with direct patient care as well as providing primary are to those in need of immediate acute care. This is a facet of nephrology I admire most. After completing medical school in Saba, I have continued my training Chambert Hospital, treating a low income community. Kidney disease is a hard progressive condition difficult to detect until the problem is too late in most cases. Every day I see patients on the brink of death struggling for another day while enduring the daily rituals of dialysis. However over time, it is inspiring to see how they bare the fruits of their efforts. After treatment, as their physician, I get to witness each transformation leading to increased energy and better mental health. This setting has exposed to a wealth of clinical knowledge with a high volume of patients with a range of co-morbidities. This is where my appetite for nephrology has grown. My fascination with nephrology probably initially stemmed during my childhood...

...I am honored to have the opportunity to apply to NHS. Being chosen to join would be a great deal to me because that would mean I achieved my goal of exemplifying determination and eagerness to help the community. I believe I possess the characteristics of academic excellence, dedication, perseverance, and the ability to work productively with positivity. Additionally, my background of enriched international experiences is another part of me that can bring a new perspective. Born in Japan, I have spent my life living around the world following my father with his job and transferred from Tokyo to Dallas at the beginning of sophomore year. I lived in Plano during my elementary school years and attended a rigorous semi international IB school for middle school and 9th grade in Japan where I learned English and Japanese simultaneously. Though many other students from non-English speaking nations have trouble expressing and explaining themselves, I am capable of communicating in English fluently. My leadership experience of working as a class president in the 9th grade helps me when working with others, including the ones I feel are a bit unusual. Using experience of Japanese culture, where people emphasize norms and situational clues to show respect for others, I strive at sensing the atmosphere through situational clues such as the tension between people, tone of voice, facial expression, etc. Combining this with my understanding of standard western culture, which is the promotion...

...From the time I was a young girl I dreamed about what I would spend the rest of my life pursuing. I desired to be a nurse, and whenever I sat down pondering the idea of my future I never could picture myself chasing anything else. I became so eloped in this profession that I would stay up late researching all the different nursing specialties, as well as what it took to become one. As I approached my junior year of high school an opportunity to get a head start in my nursing career arose and I did not hesitate to seize it. I was informed about a program that offered countless credentials and certifications that would open the door to my lifelong dream of devoting myself to the needs of others. After a rigorous application process, I was accepted into the Clinical Care program at the Licking County Career and Educational Center, often known as C-TEC. My desire and dedication for this profession grew day by day with the countless hands on involvement that C-TEC provided....

...Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to know have any major tragedies that would change my life, but I’ve had one that shaped the person I am today. Ever since I graduated from high school, I was the kid without a single idea on what to do next. I have considered many options: continue education, look for a career, or join the military. Since my family is not wealthy, so education is out of the game, and looking for a career requires a degree. So I chose military. I am glad I made that decision because military had given me skills that I cannot learn anywhere else. During my service in my military, I not only learned the skills as a corpsmen, but other skills outside of my field. In Yokosuka, Japan, I was the hardest working sailor with uncommon initiative and motivation. I was very active in my military community. I took classes to be qualified for base auxiliary security force. I participated in the annual disaster preparedness drill in conjunction with Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force fostering operational awareness of each nation’s disaster preparedness and tactics. This experience made me understand the importance of being reliable and resourceful team player. I was rewarded for displaying promising potential for professional and personal development. As I moved back to the States and continued my next assignment in Camp Pendleton, I was given a greater responsibility of managing a dental clinic. I maintained operational level supply stock throughout seven...

...I feel that not only my application, but my life would be incomplete without dance. I have been dancing at Kaiser School of Dance since I was three years old and it is something I am extremely passionate about. Dance has taught me so much over the years. I have learned from teachers, fellow dancers, and even from myself. One of the most important things dance has taught me is the effect of hard work. I am aware that this sounds cliché, but hard work and determination can achieve nearly anything. Dance itself is hard. Putting on shoes that blister my feet and still looking graceful is hard. Making six sounds with tap shoes in two counts of music is hard. However, these things have become second nature due to amount of hard work I have...

...Valuing uniqueness can be a tricky thing. However, over the years I have learned to do just that. At my high school there are two main types of groups. The agriculture group (FFA – Future Farmers of America) and the sports group. The third group is everybody else. For me, I am a little bit of all three. Consequently, I tend not to fit into any mold that our high school tries to put a person in. Throughout high school I participated in football, basketball and baseball. However, that does not mean I was on the varsity team. In fact, other than baseball, I was on the junior varsity squad in both football and basketball for three years. Of course, I wanted to be on varsity, but other athletes were more talented than I was. Knowing this, I believe my willingness to encourage and push my team to be its best has been my role as an athlete. Many of my friends asked me why I continued to participate if I was not on the varsity team. My motivation has always been my desire to play, develop my skills and help the team succeed. It definitely was not about fitting in. I just wanted to play. My senior year I earned my way onto the varsity football and basketball teams. It has taken hard work and perseverance, but I did not give up. It paid off. Most of my best friends come out of the ag room and FFA. Whether it’s because I grew up on an apple orchard or because I enjoy anything to do with projects, I naturally gravitate to farming people. In FFA I have competed in apple judging...

...I am a proud, hopeful Montegut Middle School eighth grader, nominated for student of the year; an honor for which I am truly grateful. I would absolutely love to be given the chance to represent our school, and possibly parish and state. To know my school and its staff have faith in me, has increased my strong determination. I come from a diverse family background. I’m lucky in the sense that I have two families; though different and don’t always agree, they come together to form one big family. There are few things I hold in higher regard than my family. Without their support, I think it’s safe to say that I’d be lost. I’m the second oldest of seven siblings. I take great pride in being a role model for my sisters and brothers. I would say I’m a prime example of a hands-on big sibling. I hope and pray that every kid that every kid has awesome family support like me. One of my biggest passions is dance. I’m currently a member of our member of our LMMS Golden Blues Dance Team, on which I’ve served two years. Furthermore, I have the great honor of serving as co-caption! I’ve learned what it really means to lead. I’ve always found myself to be a natural born leader; however, once given this role, I was truly able to show my skills. I’ve learned to respect everyone’s individuality, take time to listen, and maintain a positive attitude. I love dance so much that I also take classes outside of school. It’s my most sacred form of self-expression. Everyone needs a way to express themselves...

...ASB Application_Andrew Golden I wish to be a part ASB because I want to engage in all school activities. I feel like it will develop a lot of leadership skills. Leadership skills could also benefit me in many different ways. For one, it can help me as a developing student. Secondly, ASB will enhance communication. Lastly, I believe that ASB will permit growth in my work habits. I feel that ASB’s activities seem really amusing as I watch current members in ASB. ...Change is inevitable; that is a fact that we are all familiar with. Whether the change is good or bad, we cannot escape it. However, I wish to be a part of the changes that will have positive impacts on my community. To do so, I must learn how to be a better leader and I believe that I can through the Junior Leadership Academy. I believe that I am a good candidate for this program because I am motivated, involved, and often a leader to others. Throughout my life, I have always been motivated to do my best with everything I pursue. I push myself to go above and beyond, especially in school. I was the top of my class for the entirety of my time in junior high, and I continue to make the highest marks in my classes. Additionally, I am driven to work hard. Along with spending time studying for my classes, I also spend time studying for Quiz Bowl, which has lead my team and I to many victories in multiple games. My motivation is for a better future for not only myself, but for my friends and family, who have always supported me and who I can always rely on. Furthermore, ever since I was young, I have always been involved with my community in numerous ways. During my time in elementary school, I often participated in multiple activities. For example, every year I work at the St. Boniface Lawn Social, and I frequently assisted the After School Care Program with preschoolers. Likewise, in my junior high years, I was very active in my school. I was in many clubs, including Earth Club and...

...distracts from their academic endeavors. How is a student expected to attend school regularly and perform to the best of their abilities when they’re worried about their safety. The unfortunate truth is that this is a major problem with schools in the Hudson County areas and this is where a selective school like County Prep has an advantage with a relatively small student body who generally all are concerned with their academic futures there's little room for troublemakers to breed in this environment. Last on my high school checklist and yet another area where County Prep shines is in the clubs it offers to its students. Offering the National Honor Society which rewards students for academic excellence not only looks great on college applications should you make the cut it also instills a sense of accomplishment for students who work hard for their grade. In addition to the National Honor Society County Prep also offers a variety of other clubs that interest me including the Girls Leadership Club, Stock Market Club, Ambassadors Club, and Student Council which I am currently treasurer of at my elementary school. However the club that interests me the most is the chess club. I’ve been playing chess since the 3rd grade having been taught by my brother then and would love the opportunity to continue to play at the high school level. In conclusion, County Prep High School has what I believe to be the perfect recipe for success. This recipe concocted by your institution gives me every...

...Many different factors in my life have led me to become the independent person I am today. I attended a conservative, sheltered, and small private school for the first 14 years of my life. After graduating from 8th grade, my parents decided that they wanted me to attend public high school. Despite the intimidation factor, the transition went smoothly. The change taught me a great deal, for example: how to make friends, how to develop relationships with teachers outside of class time, and how to maintain exceptional grades. Making friends was a breeze, as I am an outgoing person. The teachers, however, did scare me. Over time, I realized that I needed to develop a real relationship with them, and become comfortable with them if I wanted to be successful in their classes. This transition has made me who I am today, in my academic life, as it has led me to scholastic success. My parents have also played an extremely significant role in how I've become who I am. They have always been far stricter than any of my peer's parents. My entire life with them has been one giant lesson of respect, manners, and success. At times, I dislike how strict my parents are, but I know how much it is going to pay off in the long run. I consider myself to be a well-mannered girl with an effective work ethic, with and a drive for success. My parents have truly shaped me into the person I am, and I am grateful for that. Given my strong drive to be successful, I will accept nothing less. I will graduate...
