Research Methods Matrix

A psychologist is planning to conduct a study that would examine pathological liars and the quality of their romantic relationships. You have been asked to provide the psychologist with a recommendation for which research method should be used to gather data on the pathological liars and their spouses.

Using the table below list each research method and its advantages and disadvantages for use in this study.

Research Method Advantages Disadvantages
Naturalist observation: observing behavior in the environment in a natural way. This describes and provides data such as behavioral problem, beliefs, opinions, and attitudes. This method is not for making predictions or explanations when it comes to decide the cause of the behavior.
Case study: is a detailed description of one or a few individuals With this study it usually includes real life observation Is just like naturalistic observation bias and must keep collecting more information and it uses different variety of methods.
