Gary Soto, as many people may know, is a famous poet who writes many poems that can be for children. Gary Soto was born on April 12, 1952, in Fresno, California. During his early life (college and before), he had a farm job in the field of the San Joaquin Valley. He also did not really care about his education until he was exposed to poetry in high school. That started his career where he attended Fresno City College and California State University-Fresno. He also earned an MFA from the University of California-Irvine in 1976. When he first started making poems, he named his first collection, The Elements of San Joaquin, this caused him to win the United States Award of the International Poetry Forum in 1976. Spectrum

...notes and issues The Full Spectrum of Real Estate Risk Analysis1 by Gary P. Taylor, MAI, SRA, and William E. Endsley he full spectrum of real estate risk analysis begins with the traditional banking infrastructures needed to fund property development and economic growth. The spectrum extends to the newer securitization products and property rating systems being developed to accelerate growth in mature economies. This spectrum also includes developing economies, economies in crisis, and economies in transition. Without a plan to spread rational and transparent capital development to every area of the world, economic uncertainty and threats to security will spread instead. Most importantly, the real estate spectrum includes a diverse group of citizens, governments, civil societies, and corporations that share power, often in inequitable ways. This paper looks at the role of the independent real estate valuer in examining the current distribution of the wavelengths that make up the continuum of real estate and capital markets. It examines the strands that make up this spectrum and offers suggestions for strengthening these individual strands and thereby amplifying the whole. Independent, ethical, and informed real estate valuers must analyze the full spectrum of real estate risks to protect the assets of a global public and help ensure an equitable sharing of economic power in the future. Spectrum Analyzers “Common spectrum analyzer measurements include frequency, power...

Preface This isn’t really a teacher’s manual, not, at least, in the sense of a catechism of questions and correct answers and interpretations. Because the questions provided after each selection in Rereading America are meant to stimulate dialogue and debate — to generate rather than terminate discourse — they rarely lend themselves to a single appropriate response. So, while we’ll try to clarify what we had in mind when framing a few of the knottier questions, we won’t be offering you a list of “right” answers. Instead, regard this manual as your personal support group. Since the publication of the first edition, we’ve had the chance to learn from the experiences of hundreds of instructors nationwide, and we’d like to use this manual as a forum where we can share some of their concerns, suggestions, experiments, and hints. We’ll begin with a roundtable on issues you’ll probably want to address before you meet your class. In the first section of this manual, we’ll discuss approaches to...

...[pic] JPPSS ELA COURSE GUIDE 2011-2012 ENGLISH I The JPPSS Instructional Sequence Guides are aligned with the LA Comprehensive Curriculum. JPPSS Implementation of Activities in the Classroom Incorporation of activities into lesson plans is critical to the successful implementation of the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum. The Comprehensive Curriculum indicates one way to align instruction with Louisiana standards, benchmarks, and grade-level expectations. The curriculum is aligned with state content standards, as defined by grade-level expectations (GLEs), and organized into coherent, time-bound units with sample activities and classroom assessments to guide teaching and learning. The units in the curriculum have been arranged so that the content to be assessed will be taught before the state testing dates. While teachers may substitute equivalent activities and assessments based on the instructional needs, learning styles, and interests of their students, the Comprehensive Curriculum should be a primary resource when planning instruction. Grade level expectations—not the textbook—should determine the content to be taught. Textbooks and other instructional materials should be used as resource in teaching the grade level expectations...

Bribes, Lobbying and Development

...level of development is sufficiently high. Bribery, however, is associated with holdup problems, which discourage firms from investing. If the holdup problems are severe, firms will never invest enough to make lobbying worthwhile. The country may then be stuck in a poverty trap with bribery forever. The model can account for the common perception that bribery is relatively more common in poor countries, whereas lobbying is relatively more common in rich ones. In India, as elsewhere in the developing world, the old business of corruption is meeting a new rival: the Washington-style business of persuasion — –International Herald Tribune, May 31, 2006 ◦ W L obbying and corruption have been the subject of tremendous public interest and research. Surprisingly, these two means of influencing regulation have either been studied separately or viewed as basically being one and the same. The question of why firms choose to lobby or bribe, and of the consequences of this choice, remains largely unanswered. The common perception is that firms in developing countries are more likely to pay bribes to get around regulatory constraints, whereas firms in developed countries are more prone to lobby the government to change the rules. There is also evidence, both across and within countries, that the...
