Empirical Research Question Assignment
While attending a video workshop at YouTube’s office in Manhattan, I learned that the video site is actually the second largest search engine on the Internet, with the first being its mother company, Google. Wide-eyed and eager, I had signed up to learn the secrets to increasing the amount of views and subscribers on my beauty and fashion channel. There, I discovered a roomful of other hopeful YouTubers, many of whom called themselves “beauty gurus.” A “beauty guru” is a person, male or female, that has a passion for an aspect of beauty, whether it is makeup, hair, nails, fashion, or skincare. They create informational blog posts or YouTube videos, sharing their personal experiences and knowledge with a largely female audience. Ever since my exposure to so many passionate creators, I have been fascinated with their content and its affect on their target viewers.
In my study, I aim to examine how watching YouTube beauty gurus affect adolescent females’ self-image and self-esteem. To narrow the study to a specific age range, female viewers from the ages of thirteen to twenty-one will be studied. I plan to collect survey answers, personal interviews, and observations from YouTube comments. In addition to YouTube viewers, I also want to interview beauty gurus to better understand their motives and content.
YouTube turns ten years old in February, 2015, but the amount of research done on the impact of social media networks, like YouTube, on teenagers and adolescents is still an ongoing project. The results from research conducted on beauty gurus could affect not only the content they produce, but also the sponsorships they accept from partnering companies. Their adolescent viewers are developing a sense of identity as they grow up, which makes their self-esteem particularly at risk. I think it is vitally important to understand

Asking the Right Questions in the Business Research Process

...Literature Review Asking the Right Questions in the Business Research Process Liberty University Abstract This paper seeks to briefly define the topic of business research, then explore the various steps within the associated process while revisiting the issue of what questions are appropriate to ask as the researcher during each of these steps. This will be accomplished by conducting a literary review of the subject in order to gain a general understanding of how the academic community views the business research process. The paper will be divided into two main sections. These main sections include the business research process, and ethical considerations thereof, and research design. By the end of the literary review, the reader should have a good understanding of not only the business research process as a whole, but how to ask the right questions during each step in order to maximize the impact of the study and ultimately lead to better decisions made with the findings. Literature Review Introduction The business research process is one riddled with decision points. Each step comes with many complexities and options that must be carefully considered in order for the researcher to get the best final product possible. From identifying the manager’s question to detailing the wording for a survey to choosing a report format, the researcher must be aware of not only what options are available to him, but also what questions should be asked along the way...

Discuss Potential Challenges to Validity and Reliability of Your Research Question, Data, and Analysis.

...Discuss potential challenges to validity and reliability of your research question, data, and analysis. Validity and reliability are the backbone of what is accepted as scientific proof by researchers. Potential challenges to reliability of a research question, data, and analyses are any significant results must be repeatable. Anyone who wanted to perform the same experiment applying the same conditions should arrive at the same result. If this is successful this reinforces the results and makes a larger population accept hypothesis. Potential challenges to validity of a research question, data, and analysis is making sure whether research actually measures what it claims to measure. If someone else who looked at the research and questions if the research really measures what it supposed to, the research results are in danger of being null and void and research findings wouldn't carry weight. Potential challenges to validity and reliability of data and analysis is making sure data is reliable in the first place before any test is applied. Any misconstrue data or oversight from beginning will leave false data entered in the statistical hypothesis test that would not produce accurate results. Challenges to validity of data, and analyses are meeting requirements of the scientific research method. Following all requirements and proper procedures when gather information, chosen right population and sample sizes, and any other requirements when using method. Accurate interpretation...

The Five-Question Method for Framing a Qualitative Research Study

...pdf The Five-Question Method For Framing A Qualitative Research Study Mark L. McCaslin University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA Karen Wilson Scott University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA The Five-Question Method is an approach to framing Qualitative Research, focusing on the methodologies of five of the major traditions in qualitative research: biography, ethnography, phenomenology, grounded theory, and case study. Asking Five Questions, novice researchers select a methodology appropriate to the desired perspective on the selected topic. The Method facilitates identifying and writing a Problem Statement. Through taking a future perspective, the researcher discovers the importance and direction of the study and composes a Purpose Statement. The process develops an overarching research question integrating the purpose and the research problem. The role of the researcher and management of assumptions and biases is discussed. The Five-Question Method simplifies the framing process promoting quality in qualitative research design. A course outline is appended. Key words: Qualitative Research, Five-Question Method, Biography Research, Phenomenology Research, Grounded Theory Research, Case Study Research, and Ethnography Research Introduction Planning a qualitative study for the first time tends to be an intimidating venture for graduate students just entering the field. Develop Research Question

...your research question. This may be given to you in advance by a professor or employer, or you may develop it on your own. Make sure the question is specific and can be analyzed by scientific or modern research methods. * Do not choose a question that is inherently subjective. For example, instead of a question like "What is the favorite social media website for people aged 18 to 20?" you may want to use "What is the most visited social media website for people aged 18 to 20." * Case studies are classified into different categories. An instrumental case study will seek to find a deeper understanding into a question. A collective case study analyzes cases in order to find understanding about a phenomenon. An intrinsic case study looks more deeply into an already established case.  2 Map out the protocol, strategy or structure for the case study. This will allow you to create an outline for how you will start at your question and end with a well-thought-out paper. The following are sample steps in a case study strategy. * Develop a purpose and rationale for the case study. Create 4 or 5 bullet points that you intend to answer, if possible, in the study. Consider perspectives on approaching the question and these bullet points. * Decide how you will collect data. Depending upon the question, you may want to consider 1 or more of the following data collection processes: report collection, Internet research, library research, interviewing scientists or research subjects...

Organization Research Question

...Research question Organizational culture can be defined by several themes that influence the operations and execution of personal and professional goals. Leadership, national culture, organizational effectiveness and the overall values upheld throughout a group diversify the experience of all those involved (Schnedier et al., 2012). These variables are important in addressing the complex nature of institutional operations as well as the personal relationships that may transpire within a group setting. The stability with which an organizational culture operates is based on these elements and therefore lend valuable evidence to the cross cultural context of entrepreneurship and business development. This study will investigate the differences in gender roles and accountability throughout organizational culture. Based on these defining themes, it will be possible to identify key differences in gender placement throughout management and other positions of hierarchical interest within an organization. In demonstrating the value of infrastructure supporting organizational culture it will be valuable to discuss the social relationships and formation of culture across genders in a professional atmosphere. Designing a Research Question

...Designing a Research Question Name: Institution: Women and Technology For a long time, women have lagged behind in regarding employment, business, and even technology. The stereotype that women should remain at home to tend to the family is a discriminatory ideology that has left women in the poverty pit for a long time. In the wake of the twenty-first century, there have been numerous campaigns aimed at uplifting the role of women in economic development, women empowerment being one of the most successful (Rajender, 2013). Unlike the past years where leadership positions circled among members of the male gender, women are slowly emerging as equal contenders for the seats, with similar competitiveness and contribution to matters of growth. Also, the fields of engineering, medicine that seemed to discriminate against women now include females in the round tables. This study aims at assessing the tremendous strides made by the society and lobby groups into the realization of women’s participation in technological developments such as communication, software development, electronics and even agriculture (Foust-Cummings, Sabattini, and Carter, 2008). So as to collect a diverse set of opinions and reactions from the general public, the qualitative study will employ two primary data collection methods. Individual interviews, of some of the most notable women in the field of technology, will provide first-hand information and...

...The Taiping Rebellion is was a Mass Movements that took place in mid-XIX Century China. This was a “radical political and religious upheaval that was probably the most important event in China in the 19th century. It ravaged 17 provinces, took an estimated 20,000,000 lives, and irrevocably altered the Qing dynasty”. The Qing Dynasty is also known as the Manchu dynasty. In Eric Hoffers book The True Believer he mentions that Mass Movements are powerful because they are full of fervor and if a Political movement is to be successful they must always have religious fervor to them. The Taiping Rebellion absolutely had religious fervor, it was the underline tone and what propelled Hong Xiuquan to start his rebellion. In order to understand the Taiping Rebellion you first have to understand Xiuquan. He was born 1 January 1814 in Huaxian China, he was the youngest son and had three siblings. His family was very poor but they were proud, they were a Hakka family. Hakkas migrated into South China from the north several centuries earlier, they were industrious people. Xiuquan showed signs of great intelligence at an early age, this led his entire village to sponsor him in his studies. His village hoped Xiuquan would pass the Confucian civil service examination, if he had then Xiuquan would have greatly improved the living condition in his village through public works projects and other means. “Hong took the government examination for the first time in 1827 and failed to obtain...

...to answer four questions; two questions from the topic of Forensic Psychology and two questions from the topic of Health and Clinical Psychology. This means you will have about 20 minutes of writing time per question, plus a little bit of thinking time. This is not a long time to maximise your marks, so there are some simple exam techniques to follow below. Each question will be worth 25 marks and be divided into two parts; part (a) and part (b). Part (a) asks you to demonstrate descriptive skills and is worth 10 marks, whilst part (b) asks you to display evaluative skills and is worth 15 marks. General Exam Technique/Advice * Choose the right questions A mistake made by some students is answering questions on a topic they haven’t studied! So ensure you firstly locate the two sections of the paper that you can answer questions on; Forensic and Health/Clinical. In each of these two sections, there will be a choice of four questions. You will only choose two questions per section, so pick which questions you are going to answer and cross out the others. Choosing which questions to answer may be difficult than it first appears because some questions may sound similar. You need to become familiar with the layout and wording of questions prior to your exam. * Know your timings For each question you should allow more time to answer part (b) than part (a) because part (b) carries more marks. Try to divide your time equally between all four questions on the paper in...
