Website Evaluation: www.tcsurf.com The website that our team chose was a surf company and its main purpose is to cater to all types of local people in Hawaii and internationally. With the surfboards and surf wear, the companies intended audience is all types of surfers and beach goers with all the company has to offer. The people really, like how the clothes look and feel. The team decided the following questions were important to cover the basis of what a website should answer to be user friendly, easy to navigate, easy to read, and self-explanatory. Here is the list of prioritized questions we have chosen from the sample guidelines:

1. What was your initial impression of the site? Did you feel bored, overwhelmed, or confused? 2. How much time did it take to realize the purpose of the site? 3. What is the target audience for the site? 4. Did the site look the same in multiple browsers, if multiple browsers were available? 5. Was there contact information immediately available? 6. Were there indications that you could trust the site? What were the indications? 7. Was the text easy to read and easily scanned so that you did not have to read every word? 8. What are your thoughts about the layout and colors of the site? What impression do they give? 9. How was the navigation organized? 10. When using the navigation, was it intuitive or did you need to use some trial-and-error to figure out what was behind each link? 11. Did you find the navigation to be consistent throughout the site? 12. Were there any pages on the site that forced you to use the back button because you could not figure out another way to move forward? 13. How easy was it to find the important information? The website that TEAM B selected to evaluate is http://www.tcsurf.com. Town and Country Surf Shop was founded by Craig Sugihara in 1971. The name is well-known among surfers all over the world and their logo can be found on surf gear everywhere. The site is both, informational and educational. You can find upcoming tournaments, access surf reports, purchase gear and watch the latest surf videos. The T&C main page or as we call it the homepage is clean and without any clutter of information and the team found it easy to navigate throughout the site. First as a team, we would like to spell out the whole site name. Instead of “T&C Hawaii”, we would change it to “Town & Country Surf Shop Hawaii”. This will help visitors to know exactly where they are. Surfers in know the brand but non-surfers and international visitors may not know. The only redundancy is that there are tab link copies at both the top and bottom of the page. As you can see with the redesigned homepage prototype, the team has removed the tabs from the bottom of the homepage and rearranged the tabs on the top to be more useful from left to right. The team also noticed that the homepage could use a little rearranging of information. T&C includes a video on the homepage with no main goal other than easy access to videos but our Team proposes to create a “Video” tab at the top instead to take away from some of the clutter.
Craig Sugihara is highly respected in the surf community and a big supporter of surfing events worldwide. Information is clearly listed so it can be verified, All material appears to be complete and images were identified with proper citations when needed. The worldwide surf shop expands to Europe, Australia, Africa, New Zealand, Peru, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia and US. With surf coverage as robust as this, they are a major sponsor for surfers of all nationalities. Their brand is one of the top names in the surfing community so they do not have to rely on other names to advertise on their site to gain attention. This site intends to provide interested visitors with information and product sales. The text was easy to read and the structure and navigation made sense. The graphics did not seem overly done and are logically placed with text which made navigating throughout the site pleasant. With the level of experience of members of this group project, it would seem that they have covered the important aspects with this website. Overall evaluation of this website is positive. Visitors can easily navigate though the site without confusion.
