Research: Independent Chocolatiers

1. Rausch

http://www.rausch.de/en/

Rausch really caught my eye. The product that I liked the most is the chocolates made and sold in the form of cigars. However, the individual products are not what inspired me the most. It is the history of the company and what I perceive to be their expertise in manufacturing and quality that appeals to me. Rausch began in 1918 and it would seem to me that the Rausch family members are experts in all aspects of chocolate production from Cacao seed to finished product. They have photos on their website that depict how they used to make chocolate decades ago. There is also a feeling of their company being very European high-class since they have been around so long and I know that strong traditions are important with the German people. This is what differentiated Raush from many of the other chocolatiers. Even though I have never tasted a Rausch chocolate; buying Rausch chocolates seems to add a touch of class. I don’t really see a most important product that they produce. They produce a lot of chocolate bars like many chocolatiers. I think that Rausch does a great job convincing potential buyers that they really know their stuff and their chocolates are superior. I would most like to emulate Rausch’s operation although I don’t think I have enough time to develop Rausch’s reputation.

2. BT McElrath Chocolatier

http://www.btmcelrath.com/

BT McElrath is not a major historical operation like Rausch is. However, it appears to be run by one chocolatier who really creates his products with a labor of love. His products were selected to The Minneapolis Star Tribune “The Taste 50" and was featured in Cool Hunting Magazine, which is very impressive. I chose BT McElrath because

...distributing a specific product. Specifically, the supply chain encompasses the steps it takes to get a good or service from the supplier to the customer. Supply and Demand In classical economic theory, the relation between these two factors determines the price of a commodity. This relationship is thought to be the driving force in a free market. As demand for an item increases, prices rise. When manufacturers respond to the price increase by producing a larger supply of that item, this increases competition and drives the price down. Modern economic theory proposes that many other factors affect price, including government regulations, monopolies, and modern techniques of marketing and advertising (dictionary.reference.com). Relationship The supply chain and supply and demand model are very similar because they both work hand and hand to be successful. Both models can be used to project much needed information of what consumers purchase and the amount they will pay for it. This is very useful to the stakeholders, involved in this process. Essentially these models can predict the consumer’s wants and needs for products on the market and for researching future products. The customers wants is what drives the supply chain. In the demand model the customer is at the center of all work, and will determine how the supply chain will operate. Both of these models work to maintain the amount of products and services sold buy companies and at the same time increase business profits while...

Business Research

...Preparing to Conduct Business Research Part 1 Team A RES/351 February 24, 2014 Sara Skowronski Preparing to Conduct Business Research Part 1 The purpose of business research is to allow a business to set itself apart from its competitors by gathering as much information on the industry that it can and utilizing that data to create unique methodologies and business practices. Researching in a business will provide information on things such as what products consumers like or do not like to buy, what the start-up costs will be, and whether any new business opportunity is viable to undertake. Researching also reveals the profitability potential of products and services and how they size up competitively with similar products available in the marketplace. The most successful organizations in each industry are perfect examples of how to successfully market, advertise, and sell your products so they should always be considered. As apparent as this may seem to any given organization, often times, businesses suffer to some degree because of the lack of focus when it comes to customer service. In a time where technology and immediacy is the common thread used in impression and persuasion, the common denominator could boil down to customer service. It can be the one thing that separates an organization from another. We will be focusing directly on the research of customer service for the company Wal-Mart as an opportunity. Researching the prosperity and customer services rendered...

Fueling Strategic Innovation

...FUELING STRATEGIC INNOVATION “Strategic Innovation is the creation of growth strategies, new product categories, services or business models that change the game and generate significant new value for customers and the corporation” (Kotelnikov: 2001). It is a holistic approach consisting of an organized set of practices that motivate imaginative teams to think outside the box and challenge the tyranny of the given (Kao: 1997 in Bonn: 2001). Innovation becomes strategic when it has become a deliberate repeatable process that creates a significant difference in the value delivered to consumers, customers, partners and the corporation. It is also the juncture where an organization can be said to have it as a competitive advantage (Thompson, Strickland& Gamble: 2008). Strategic innovation therefore challenges the organization to break its established business boundaries and mental blocks and to be divergent in its thinking rather than being convergent (Erupting Mind: 2010). As far as Professor Stephen Brown of Ulster University is concerned, marketers place excessive emphasis on researching and customer satisfaction at the expense of development of strategic innovation. The argument holds some merits. First, being strategically innovative will make it possible for marketers to achieve a capability that can be reproduced in better tools assemblage, processing and idea generation than competitors. Second, building capability in strategic innovation will enable the organization to...

Business Research Process

...The Business Research Process James Mathias RES351 03/10/2014 Dr. Michael Gemignani The Business Research Process Business research in the Air Conditioning field is multi-faceted and extremely helpful in building a successful sales and service team. You have to be able to properly identify your competitors in your market. Companies need to take time and invest in knowing your customer base. Discover your strengths and weaknesses and focus on those elements and market them properly. Constant research and development of strategies that are as dynamic as the technology that moves us is key in building a great A/C company. Why Research the Competition Most people look at a competitor in the market as a bad thing. This is not always the case, with the right research it can be a great selling tool and even an ally in aiding in the sustainability of business practices. Competition is actually a good thing in the Air Conditioning world. We use the information to help target the right kind of products and services for the right time of year. For example, in 2006 the new construction industry was good downhill in sales. This decline in the market was responsible for many Contractors having to close or change the way they do business. The company that I was working for at the time, Corman and Sons Inc., concentrated on the new construction industry. The owner and I did a little market research with the Act Corporation and discovered that the retail contractors...

...types of consumers with different product or service requirements. The fact of the matter is that we do not all want the same products, and we have different requirements for the products and services that we do consume. Product differentiation is based on four elements: Price – How much am I prepared to pay for this product? Quality – What level of quality do I require? Availability – or maybe delivery. How quickly do I want to have the use of this purchase? Promotion – or maybe "branding". Do I want a specific brand, or one of a range of brands that I feel 'says something about me? Think about denim jeans here—a $4.00 pair from Wal-Mart, a $400 pair from Neiman-Marcus We all make "value judgments" based on the inter-relationship of these three elements when we consume a service or product. Operations Concept Models

...Porter’s Value Chain Model The Value Chain Model was first evangelized by Michael Porter in the 1980’s and focuses on a company’s ability to create greater value, increase profitability and gain competitive advantage by evaluating the organization as a whole through a linear series of activities performed by the organization to deliver a product and/or service to its customers. This model links functions across an organization and the impacts they have on one another to better identify potential efficiencies rather than reviewing them in separate silos. Activities within the Value Chain Model are divided into primary activities and support activities. Primary activities have direct connection to the physical creation, sale, maintenance and support of a product or service. These activities typically include inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service. Support activities are those that support the primary functions and typically include procurement, technology development, human resource management, and infrastructure. Business Concept Overview As a busy new mom trying to juggle the demands of running a household, working full time and attending business school, I am constantly finding myself opting for convenience over health when it comes to eating. Previously, I was a meticulous meal planner for clean eating, spending tens of hours per week on researching, planning, shopping, prepping and cooking. While a healthy lifestyle is more...
