Homosexuals have been advocating for the right to marry one another since the early 1970’s. The idea of this being allowed to happen in society is vulgar to the sanctity of marriage. If today’s culture continues to promote this behavior then it will lead to people seeking acceptance to more extreme perverted relationships. It also violates the natural order of what human kind was created for. This issue imposes the acceptance of homosexuality to the world. The implication of same sex marriage is turning a moral issue into a civil rights argument. It confuses what gender role a person is to portray in a family unit. Christianity advocates that same sex marriage offends God.
Throughout history the definition of marriage has been understood as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman with the duty to procreate that is until the late twentieth century. As of January 1, 2013 the United States will have nine states that recognize same sex marriages. Marriage between men and women in America is already a struggle with divorce rates between 40% and 50%. Allowing homosexual couples to marry will only increase these rates in the country. If these nine states continue to grant these so called “marriages” then without question this will lead to the meltdown of the way society operates (“Should gay marriage be legal”).
If people keep promoting this abnormal behavior, then what will stop a person from seeking acceptance to more extreme relationships? If homosexuals win the right to marry in all states, the next step will include the toleration of incest, bestiality, polygamy, bigamy, necrophilia, and pedophilia. Design/methodology/approach – The case study briefly summarises the significance of corporate values, branding and design in the retail industry, and subsequently explores The Body Shop’s application of these elements to its business. The case study is contextualised by The Body Shop’s retail environment forming a particularly important communication channel for the company. Findings – The Body Shop has in many ways been the victim of its own success. Being a unique proposition, and having effectively created its own retail category, it has appeared slow to evolve its brand identity. The strong association between the company and its campaigning founder, increasing competition and changing consumer attitudes, have been significant factors in the company’s struggle to re-align and update its brand.
