My immediate reaction to this book was the feeling of remorse toward Precious. The opening paragraph was direct and to the point of what is going on in Precious’s life. The way the story opened up also made me feel sad and outraged by the experiences Precious faces. I could feel a sense of hostility with myself by the story referring to Precious being suspended for being pregnant which was not her fault and how the suspension occurred without her doing anything to deserve it. Precious seemed to be in constant fear which made me question her life growing up before the age of seven. I was trying to find ways where this could all have been avoided and find positive alternatives for her life so far. I felt like Precious was resilient and even

New Earth Mining Case Solution

...To: CFO, New Earth From: Group 4 Consulting team: Ka Yan Michelle Au (20344951), Catherine Cho (20337067), Yutong Liu (20344878), An Li Xu (20341923), Jeffrey Wang (20342506) Subject: New Earth’s South Africa Iron Ore Investment Analysis ______________________________________________________________________________ New Earth Mining Inc. (“New Earth”) has substantial investments in the precious metals industry, specifically gold, but is facing volatile gold prices that may not be sustainable in the future. In response to this threat, New Earth should consider opportunities to diversify its business through exploration activities for other minerals. Attractive Investment for New Earth New Earth should take the opportunity to invest in the iron ore deposits in South Africa due to the following reasons: 1) It is a stable investment with long-term prospects of 15 years and a floor price of $80 per metric ton, and 2) The NPV of the project is $181.75 million, thus providing enough cash flows to cover debt and provide dividends to shareholders. Stable Iron Ore Investment The iron ore investment satisfies New Earth’s desire to diversify its business from precious metals with this potential investment life of 15 years. Prices are expected to stay over $80 per ton, with ore prices having reached a high of over $100 per metric ton in 2012. Production costs are expected to be low due to the easy access to ports from the mine location, reducing the need for infrastructure investment...

Ethics and Morality

...Ethics and Morality Doreen B. Jackson Everest University 1. How would Robert Coles respond to this quote? Robert Coles might answer this quote by making us consider going from thinking to action, and using moral analysis to the fulfilling moral commitments. Moral conduct is not commensurate with moral reasoning although there is a correlation between a plan of action and moral reasoning. Students might learn of the moral code of ethics, but they are the ones required to make the commitment by studying and following them, therefore becoming a more ethical person. My answer to the quote is, we as people make our own choices concerning our own actions. We are confronted with moral dilemmas that allow us to make those choices. When studying our daily living we show our morality by our chosen actions and our spoken words. We decide whether our decisions are good or will have ramifications. If our actions are not continually studied a code of ethics may never be maintained causing adversity in our personal and social lives. 2. How do you explain the fact that morally evil people can be highly educated in terms of ethics and religion? In other words, how do you account for the gap that sometimes occurs between knowledge of ethics and being ethical person? To them morality is simply rules that are memorized. Morality can be stated or referenced but not adopted. Moral choices require deep thought and consideration. The so called evil persons do not have empathy...

Marketing Approach of the National Bank of Belarus

...Nadolniy Taras Marketing Approach of the National Bank of Belarus In my exercise I would like to consider the experience of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus as the country's central bank to implement the government project of the creation of the domestic market of precious metals of the Republic of Belarus. First of all I want to note that the number of central banks are involved in this sphere of relations insignificant in the world. As a general rule, commercial banks are engaged in this activity. Precisely because of these circumstances, the success of the National Bank depended on many factors, including well chosen marketing strategy for beginning and implementing the project. Just wanted to mention that there is no specialized unit responsible for implementing a marketing strategy in the staffing structure of the National Bank because of the nature of the central bank. The main tasks of the central bank are conducting monetary policy and its individual components - foreign exchange, interest rate and monetary policies. Nevertheless, I would like to give a characterization of the bank in the development of the domestic market of precious metals through the prism of marketing management. In addition, relying on Article Leslie M. Fine "The bottom line: marketing and firm performance" and Roland T. Rust, Christine Moorman, Gaurav Bhalla "Rethinking marketing", I would like to highlight some points that, in my opinion, are essential for this project. The...

Crosswell International

...A06-97-0002 Crosswell International It is August 4, 1995, and the Mathieux brothers, Doug and Geoff, were concluding a summer-long effort of developing the Brazilian market for Crosswell International (U.S.). Crosswell’s president and CEO, Hector Lans, is convinced that Precious Ultra Thin Baby Diapers will be a big seller in Brazil. In their role as brokers for Crosswell, the Mathieuxs have been exploring a number of different distribution channels in the Brazilian market. To date, the distributor response to Precious diapers has been enthusiastic, particularly in light of Precious diapers’ superior quality compared to locally manufactured alternatives. The problem, however, is the price. Brazilians base many purchasing decisions — at least in regard to disposable diapers — on cost, not on quality. The Mathieuxs find that distributors do not believe they can compete in the market with the relatively high prices offered by Crosswell, even with higher quality diapers. After much debate over how to improve the price competitiveness of Precious diapers, the Mathieuxs believe they may have found a solution. Their proposal is to combine extended credit terms to local distributors with Brazil’s high domestic interest rates to effectively lower the diapers’ price to Brazilian consumers. The Brazilian Diaper Market Until the latter part of the 1980s, most Brazilians had never heard of a disposable diaper, and not surprisingly, the disposable hygiene market in Brazil...

Batch Processing

...stored in a transaction file till the performance of master file update. The storing of transaction file may occur through online or offline entry of data. The time lag is one characteristic used to distinguish between batch and real-time systems. Explain. Give an example of when each is a real choice. Lag time is the major characteristic that can distinguish batch processing from real time processing because batch processing is used only when there are a large number of files or where a quick response is not needed. It is a non-continuous/ Non real time processing of data, materials or instructions. The files that are needed to be transmitted are gathered over a period of time and then send together as a batch and are processed with minimal human interaction. While real time processing is that type of data processing which appears to take place or actually taking place , instantaneously upon receipt of a command or data entry, It must be executed within a strict time limit or strict response time. Batch processing will be a realistic choice in the following situation.
