Your impression of the speaker’s tone is right. Joel Olsten’s voice seem to permeate the nook and crannies of the church that sometimes I wonder why he needs a microphone. Also, he has a good command of his voice which gives synergy to his message. One of the characteristics of a good speaker is the ability to use tone as much as possible to embody the message. Joel Olsten certainly met that criteria in this speech as pointed out in your analysis. The use of hand gestures for me is needed to stimulate action and not get the audience stifled by an overload of his message. However, your take on the blinking of his eyes, is far-fetched. The blink is natural in some people, Joel Olsten included. This helps relax the muscles of the eye.
