Throughout this society we have many different meanings of word rich. Rome is rich with ancient ruins. The Mona Lisa is rich with artistic value. The Walton family is extremely rich. The last sentence is what many people hope and dream about. What is the meaning of rich? You can ask people what rich means to them, but you will find many different answers. I believe being rich is not just having material wealth, but also having inner richness that lasts beyond money and worldly possessions. Some may think rich is having cars they don’t need, and having houses they don’t need. Different people, different meanings, but what does rich really mean? If you look in the dictionary you will find seven to eight different definitions of the word rich. The one definition that is the driving force in this day and age, states that rich is “having abundant possessions and especially material wealth.” I think most people strive for this. With this kind of rich every other meaningful thing in life seems to come together, you can buy any car you want, any house you want, and even any girl you want; but what is life if you only strive for material possessions? I strive to be rich in personal values, family traditions, and most importantly rich in my heart. Television has many examples of the stereotypical rich person. On one channel there may be Oprah Winfrey who in the past two years has passed the $1 billion net worth mark, and on another channel Bill Gates, who has for the last eight or so years been the richest person in the United States. Our world is full of rich people; sometimes we fail to realize it. For instance King Mswati III is the sole ruler of Swaziland, Africa, the last monarchy on this earth; he has rich traditions that extend beyond the stereotypical rich. Saudia Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and his family have been the richest family in their country for the better half of a century. On the other side of this you have basketball stars who are not billionaires but none the less, rich. Players like Shaquille O’Neil, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant are among the few who demand they also be recognized as being rich. In every walk of life we have different kinds of rich. In the ghetto and other predominantly black communities in the United States rich people are called “hood rich”. This type of rich is based solely on material possessions. You may see people wearing sporting apparel, current urban clothing and gangster colors, all of which have no real value. In the suburbs you have your middle-class families who have nice family cars like Mercedes Benz, and BMWs; they also have nice houses, but often don’t call themselves rich compared to superstars, but are rich with family goals and values. After recognizing these two meanings of rich you have to acknowledge the extremely rich, which include people like Donald Trump, Michael Dell, and Martha Stewart who have to ability to buy whatever their heart desires. Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get rich-quick theory of life.” To this day this quote is still the driving force that is destroying America. People need to realize that the way to truly be rich is to cherish what they have and not focus their life on just getting money. People shouldn’t base their whole life on the sole purpose of making money and having material possessions, but should take into consideration being rich with other values that that can take them further in life than merely money and material possessions. The need to be rich is the cause of many problems that exist in America today. America has many young people who are falling into the get rich fast trend. On our streets we have drug dealers who are trying to make a quick dollar by selling drugs to our young people. We have young African-American males in many inner city communities concentrating on just sports instead of reading and writing thinking maybe they will play in the NBA right after high school, and become a fast millionaire, the odds of this happening are against them. Young Americans see the rich and famous people on television, on the streets, on the Internet and in the clubs. They fail to realize that all the nice cars, fancy clothes and big houses do not come from easy money but from long and hard work. Throughout time, the definition of rich has not changed. We will always have people who need to be rich. People who are rich by the number of cars they have, and people who are rich by the number of children they have. You and only you will have to ask yourself and determine what rich really means to you. You may be surprised what you come up with.

Rich Dad Poor Dad Summary

...Rich Dad, Poor Dad is the story of author Robert Kiyosaki's upbringing and his two fathers, one rich father (not biological) and one poor father (biological). He was forced to choose between following in the footsteps of his poor father – a highly educated government worker – or his rich father – an entrepreneur who never graduated high school. In the end he decided to learn from his rich dad.The book focuses mostly on the education and financial advice Kiyosaki learned from his rich dad. His rich father was able to create a multi-million dollar empire from virtually nothing, using his financial knowledge and the power of his imagination. The book gives basic lessons which combine the teachings of Kiyosaki's rich dad with experiences from his own life. One of which is the importance of improving your financial IQ and financial literacy,(skills the author believes is absent from the current education system). The book also shows how the rich don't work for money, they make money work for them. They acquire assets rather than liabilities. The author emphasises the importance of being able to differentiate between an asset and a liability. He states that in order to be truly wealthy, your asset must be large enough to offset your living expenses. He explained about the misconception of a high income meaning wealth, but in reality a strong asset column is what is needed. Higher incomes often lead to higher expenses, higher taxes, and more debt. The author (Kiyosaki) eliminates...

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

...Kiyosaki was taught that financial intelligence is the way to be rich. People today are desire money and are afraid of not having money; they spend their lives working for money. Kiyosaki says we need to have money work for us. Kiyosaki wanted to grow up not having to live in the “rat race”. He wanted to be able to go where he wanted to go, do the things he wanted to do, to not have anything holding him down, and that is why he strived to become “rich”. This book is for of guide lines that Kiyosaki used or experienced and he wants others to learn from. The first chapter Rich Dad Poor Dad is where Kiyosaki introduces his two fathers. He says, “one was highly educated and intelligent;… [and the other] never finished the eighth grade.” Both his fathers were strong and influential, and both were successful in their careers; but one struggled financially all his life and the other became one of the richest men in Hawaii. Kiyosaki was glad to have two fathers to learn from learned from. He was able to see the point of view of both the poor and the rich. Even though the time he started learning from them when he was nine years-old the rich dad was not yet rich and the poor dad not yet poor. At the age of nine Kiyosaki started listening to his rich dad. Rich dad taught six main lessons. The second chapter was the first lesson, The Rich Don’t Work for Money. Rich Dad Poor Dad Chapter Summary

...Chapter 4 of Rich Dad Poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki, continues to reinforce the idea that the rich and the poor think differently. In chapter four, titled “The History of Taxes and the Power of Corporations,” Mr. Kiyosaki discusses the power of the corporation, and how the rich have learned to use the corporation to hide their money. Through a variety of charts he shows how the cash flows through business versus how cash flows through the poor and middle class. Corporations spend their money and then pay taxes on what is left, where the poor pay taxes and they what is left they spend on other things. Robert continues to drill the idea of developing your financial IQ in order to break the rat race and escape the machine that sucks you into the work force. He says being ignorant gets you bullied, and if you were to learn you may stand a chance. Robert actually wrote an entire book on raising your financial IQ, although I think you would be better off going through a professional educator, he makes several good points in the book. One point that I like from this chapter, and actually is driven home by this current election campaign, is the idea that the more you tax the rich, the less willing they will be to create jobs. For the 2012 election, you have one candidate that wants to bring down taxes on the rich so they create more jobs, and in turn, return more money to the government in taxes. The other candidate wants to increase taxes on the rich, which will make the rich just find...

APL was a leading national player in the confectionery industry. It had desired to expand its supply to the market by subcontracting orders to other manufacturers. However, it wanted to retain full control over the quality and production processes of biscuits produced for them. It had promised the sub-contractors that it would compensate them adequately in terms of volume of business and conversion charges. A Man for All Seasons Summary

...character? Though A Man for All Seasons in itself is a complicated and sustained view into the lives of those surviving in England under a corrupt system, the Common Man is a vital element in the play that documents the inner struggles of a man torn between ‘political realities’ of the day and his faith and knowledge of his own character. By acting as a make shift chorus, the Common Man is able to persuade the audience to remain detached in order to consider the many layered, multi-dimensional More and to consider his motivation and reasoning for his action of remaining ‘silent’. The Common Man also allows and encourages a very dramatic contrast of character between More and himself, along with what would seem characters of ‘all seasons’ in Rich and the State. By lacking in character development, the Common Man is able to successfully communicate the intricacies of More’s concise and important construction. From the beginning of the play, opening with a grand declaration of ‘the Sixteenth Century is the century of the common man’, the audience is immediately aware of his importance in not only beginning, but in the unfolding of events as a sort of commentator as the play progresses. He is meant, as suggested by his distinctive label of ‘the common man’ and his seemingly unidentifiable ‘black’ bit of cloth for a costume, to represent a jack-of-all-trades, a shapeshifter. Most importantly, he is a physical presence on stage that communicates directly with the audience – a constant...
