“Now,” said the big man (he was an Englishman who had just moved into the bungalow), “don’t frighten him, and we’ll see what he’ll do.” The motto of all the mongoose family is “Run and find out,” and Rikki-tikki was a true mongoose. Kindness can turn into loyalty. The theme of the fictional story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is, “the kindness of others creates loyalty.”

Rikki Tikki is a loyal character in this story. In one instance, Rikki saved Teddy’s life when the venomous snake Karait (para 34). The family took Rikki in and he returned the favor by saving their only son from Karait. Rikki’s loyalty to the family saved them from Karait, Nag, and Nagaina. Furthermore, Rikki took on a king cobra which could kill him with one strike so he could save the family (para. 94).Rikki-tikki saved the family again from another venomous snake while risking his life in the process. The kindness of the family when they took Rikki in made him loyal to them. Since Rikki is a loyal character, he saved the family which in turn they gave him a roof over his head. …show more content…
In one instance, Nagaina wanted to get revenge for her husband’s death by killing the big man’s son (para. 84). Nagaina loved her husband so much that she would do anything to get revenge.This shows how much she loved Nag which portrays her character trait. Moreover, Nagaina would have done anything to get her last egg from Rikki, who killed all of her other eggs (para. 93). Nagaina is a mother first which means she would do anything for her egg.It’s different for Rikki because Rikki-tikki is loyal and in the story it didn’t give any sign that he was loving like Nagaina. The love Nagaina has for her family is her character
