“Happy are those who dare courageously to defend what they love.”(Ovid) This quote demonstrates the theme of Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling by portraying that one who is happy can protect the things they love without doubt or hesitation. If you input Rikki-tikki’s character to this quote, its output is true to the story in which Rikki-tikki protects his family and keeps them out of harm. The theme of the fictional story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that bravery can occur at its best when loved ones are in harm or danger.

She is willing to leave her one and only home to save her last egg’s life. The character that Nagaina displays in this example is quite like Rikki-tikki’s traits. In the story, Rikki-tikki is ready to give up his life for the protection of Teddy’s family and Nagaina is willing to give up anything for her egg. Their actions are alike and they both show that the theme is about bravery or courage when loved ones are in harm or danger. Yet Nagaina can be cruel as well,”What is the use of running away? I am sure to catch you. Little fool, look at me!” (para. 78) Thus, this comes to show that Nagaina is cruel to others that she dislikes. This shows that Nagaina and Rikki-tikki are alike yet different in many ways. Nagaina and Rikki-tikki will both do anything to protect the ones they love, but they have different ways of living their lives and reactions towards others. Nagaina’s cruelty can show that others can not trust her bravery and they do not believe the pureness of her actions. Finally, Nagaina is a caring and wicked figure in this
