...28th, 2014 The Problem: In Saudi Arabia automobile vehicles are the main means of transportation, and unfortunately the main case of death as well! During the period between 1971 and 1997; the Kingdom’s General Directorate of Traffic has revealed that 564 762 people died or were hurt in traffic accidents, which is equal to 3.5% of the total population in Saudi Arabia. During the same period 66 914 people have died in Saudi Arabia due to traffic accidents, amounting to one person killed and four get hurt every hour. More than 20% of hospital beds in Saudi Arabia are occupied by traffic accidents victims, mainly adult males aged 16 to 36. (1) If we are to investigate the causes behind this horrifying issue, we find that the increased number of vehicles, and the expansion of road networks within and between cities contribute mainly to the high rate of accidents in Saudi Arabia. This is in addition to the increased number of emigrants from different countries who are unacquainted with local driving conditions and requirements. Nonetheless, most accidents happen specifically as a result of drivers’ error. Over 50% of the traffic accidents are due to over speed and violation of signals at intersections. Signal violation accidents in Saudi Arabia are 4.5 times more common than in the USA. The 187th was then re-deployed to Japan on the 26th of June 1951, but wasn't quite finished in the Korean peninsula as they were recalled on the 24th of May 1952 to help quell a prison rebellion at the Geoje POW Camp, sent back to Japan, and then again sent to Korea on the 22nd of June 1953. The 187th then returned to the United States on June of 1955 where, the year after, they were to become part of the reactivated 101st at Fort Campbell. Also worth noting is that the 1950's and 60's was a turbulent time for the 187th's 3rd Battalion. When they made it to the US in 1955, they were at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The 187th road marched to Fort Campbell to become part of the 101st. During their various actions during the Korean War, three of the 187th's members were awarded with the Medal Of Honor (Corporal Lester Hammond Jr., Corporal Rodolfo Perez Hernandez, and Private First Class Richard Gene Wilson). George Bissell was a very important individual in the creation of the oil industry. He spotted a bottle of this Pennsylvania rock oil in one of his professor’s classrooms. He became very curious with the rock oil and believed that it could be used as an illuminant because it was flammable. If this rock oil could become the new illuminating oil, Bissell would become an extremely wealthy man and that became his motivation. In 1854, Bissell gathered investors and hired a professor from Yale, Benjamin Silliman, to analyze all the properties of this oil to determine if it could indeed be used as an illuminant and lubricant.
