On Sunday August, 21st, The River Valley Singers will perform the music of Robert Lowry in a program entitled “ Robert Lowry (1826-1899), Popular Hymnwriter of the 19th Century.” They concert will be held at the Thomas T. Taber Museum at the Lycoming County Historical Society. It will start at 2 p.m. And last until around 3:30.

Robert Lowry was a minister at the First Baptist Church in Lewisburg back in the 1800s. He is best known for the hymn “Shall We Gather at the River?” He was also an early influence at Bucknell University.

“Ruth Blankenship is the impetus behind this group.” Gary Parks, Taber Museum director states. According to Parks, Blankenship has been teaching voice and piano for more than 30 years and many of her students have gone on to perform and teach. She was a founding member of the Buffalo Valley Singers and is the choir director at First Baptist Church in Lewisburg, which is the same church Reverend Lowry was minister at for a period of his life. She is a soprano. …show more content…
The two Altos are Lucie Knauer and Judy Blee (who is also an organist & Pianist). They are also in the Baptist Choir. Joe Keller, tenor, joins them from nearby Christ Lutheran in Lewisburg. After the four of the five as the Buffalo Valley Quartet (Wolf, Blakenship, Knauer, Keller). They re-formed into the Robert Lowry Singers (adding Blee) to specifically vocalize the musical heritage of Robert
