Romeo's True Colors

In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the character of Romeo has a large role in the turn of events. Romeo is an emotional young man who often lets lust, hormones, and quick feelings control his life. Romeo makes horrible decisions that cost him his life. All of which was because he could not control his feelings over a young and naive girl. In scene one of act one, Romeo rants about how depressed he is over his love for a woman. “In sadness, cousin, I do love a woman” Romeo confesses to Benvolio (I.i.218). The woman that Romeo is in love with does not return the feelings for him. “She will not stay the siege of loving terms, nor bide the encounter of assailing eyes, nor ope her lap to saint-seducing gold” Romeo sadly describes to his cousin (I.i.226-228). This love that is not returned sends Romeo into a state of depression. Romeo prefers to sit alone in the dark all day, when he could be socializing. “I- measuring his affections by my own, which then most sought where most might not be found” Benvolio describes to Lady Montague about Romeo running into the forest as he approached (I.i.134-136). Thus, proving that Romeo cannot confront the pain of rejection. In scene five of act one, Romeo sees Juliet for the first time. It is at a Capulet masquerade, which suggests that Juliet’s face was covered. “Did my heart love till now? Forswear is, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” Romeo declares when he first sees the young maiden (I.v.58-58). Rosaline, Romeo’s love, was also an attendee at this party. Romeo decides that his love for her is no more, and that he is madly in love with Juliet in an instant. Granted, he has never spoken to Juliet, and most likely cannot see her face. ...Being in love is like being in a dream. Being in love is like finally finding what has everyone has been searching for. Love comes to those who wait. Love comes to those who are not expecting it. Love especially come when we fall head over heels for a person. Love comes at first sight. Love comes from dating. Love comes from marrying. There are so many different types of love and finding of love. “Romeo and Juliet is always greeted by the young with immediate sympathy, somehow expressing the essence of love, what it ought to be, a permanent possibility, a fulfillment of every renascent hope and a thing to be admired” (Bloom 273). Throughout literature, the most noteworthy way of showing how a couple in love would do anything for each other is through Romeo and Juliet. The context of the play, Romeo and Juliet is about two wealthy and noble families in the town of Verona that are not fond of each other. “Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Verona, where we lay our scene)” (Spark 2). There is the Montague family, where Romeo is the son. Romeo is around the age of sixteen and at this time of century this is when a boy will start searching for a wife. Even though his family is fighting against the Capulet, he doesn’t believe in it. This makes him a more susceptible character to have the ability to fall in love with out getting into other kinds of violence. First, look over the words on our SAT High-Frequency Word List, which you’ll find on the following pages. Each of these words has appeared (as answer choices or as question words) from eight to forty times on SATs published in the past two decades. Next, look over the words on our Hot Prospects List, which appears immediately after the High-Frequency List.
