Ernest “Ernie” Eugene Barnes, Jr. (July 15, 1938 – April 27, 2009) was an African-American painter, well known for his unique style of elongation and movement. He was also a professional football player, actor and author.rnie Barnes
Ernie Barnes, an artist who with each stroke of his brush propelled modern “black art” into the mainstream during a time when the words “black” and “art” were deemed far from synonymous. As a one-time professional athlete in the NFL he said it best, One day on the playing field I looked up and the sun was breaking through the clouds, hitting the unmuddied areas on the uniforms, and I said, That’s beautiful!’… I knew then that it was all over being a player. I was more interested in art.”
His impact on the world of art will definitely live on despite his recent death. His artistic genius and bold, intense, and exaggerated technique will be flattered by imitation, adoption, and admiration for years to comes.
The university is committed to sports art, establishing the American Sport Art Museum and Archives in 1984. It is arguably the largest collection of sport art in the world.
Ernie Barnes coveted work had been commissioned by the likes of Slyvester Stallone, The 1984 Olympic Games, Alex Hailey, Mary Tyler Moore, the NBA, Kanye West, and the list goes on and on. His most famed piece “Sugar Shack” was the endearing centerpiece in many scenes of Good Times, a staple television series in the African-American community during the 1970′s. Ernie Barnes legacy will be his impeccable ability to paint subjects in motion, specifically athletes, dancers, and youth. Barnes died on Monday, April 27th, 2009

In the early 1950s, his school weight-lifting coach saw Ernie's work and embraced, both it and the artist behind it, inspiring the boy to hone his hefty body mass into that of an athlete; at the time, one of the few opportunity pathways opening up for young black men from the South. By the time Ernie graduated from high school in 1956, the football team captain and state champion discus and shot-put thrower had amassed a total of 26 college scholarships, giving him free rein to pursue an education as an artist in virtually any school he chose...provided it was black. He chose North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central University) which happened to be just across the street from his high school. Once more he was as outstanding in football as art. On a field trip to the North Carolina Museum of Art, he inquired as to where the work of black artists might be found. The response: "Your people don't express themselves that way."

Messi vs Ronaldo

...Josue Pena English Composition WP3 Messi vs Ronaldo Football has produced some of the most iconic and legendary sporting personalities. However, in the present era there is a question that every football fan argues on. “Who is better, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?” Messi and Ronaldo are two of the most gifted and skillful footballers on the planet. The former is an Argentinian, who plays for his national team and Spanish club, FC Barcelona (Brach). The latter is a Portuguese, who plays for his national team and another Spanish club, Real Madrid C.F (Mitra). Ronaldo used to play in England for Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid. At that time the two weren’t compared to each other much. Messi was regarded as a huge young prospect who had a lot of potential to become a super star in the future, coming from Barca’s youth academy “La Masia” (Levinsky), while Ronaldo was an already established star in an amazing Man United squad, winning the prestigious Ballon D’ Or award in 2008, which is an award that recognizes a player as the best in the world for that particular year. It was the year 2009 that sparked the rivalry between the two when a Messi inspired Barcelona team defeated Ronaldo’s Man United team 2-0 in the final of the Champions League, the largest club competition in the world. It was that year, Ronaldo moved to the capital of Spain; Madrid to join Real Madrid, Barcelona’s arch rivals. Later that year Messi won the Ballon D’ or and announced himself...

...Salman Good Afternoon Everybody........ Hope you all are doing fine. This is my first speech in front of such a big audience and i shall try to make it interesting. I believe that if we have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give our best effort, we will overcome our immediate problems and find we are ready for greater challenges. Here is the story of my life’s journey so far. I am Salman and I was born in the year 2000 in Hyderabad, India. I came to Doha when I was 6 months old. My story would be incomplete without the story of my parents – because they are the reason, I am standing before you today. My father is an Engineer and my mother is a post graduate house wife who did not wish to pursue a career so that she can take care of my elder brother and me. I have an elder brother who is in class 12th who loves me a lot but we do fight and argue since I do not like to take things lying down. I do not remember much of my childhood but my mother tells me that I was a chubby little kid, quite and always ready to eat whatever was in my plate. I vaguely remember my early years in school which flew away very playfully. The studies too went on like a breeze without any sort of pressure. As soon as I returned from school I used to finish my homework without anybody telling me. But as I grew older this is not the case, my parents have to be on my back. Talking about studies, Urdu was my weakest subject and no wonder it was the lowest scoring subject in all classes...

Best Players

...world now? The answer comes from two famous football players: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. In my opinion, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are all excellent football players. They all have masterly football technique and high support. Thousands of football fans from the whole world support them. But I pay more attention on their dissimilarity rather than who is the best one. I think they have much different from each other. It is very interesting to discuss their dissimilarity. First, their position in field is different. Cristiano Ronaldo is a wing forward. The job for a wing forward is creating more chances for the centre forward, shooting from long distance and cutting back for centre. On the other hand, Lionel Messi is a second striker. The job for a second striker is organizing the attack for the whole team, helping the centre forward to get goal and attracting the defend players. Second, their way to get a goal is different. Cristiano Ronaldo is a versatile player. He can use many means to get a goal, such as shooting from long distance, free kick and header. In comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi just have simplex way to get a goal. His way is shooting from close distance. Although it sounds very humdrum, but Messi’s shoot is very minatory. Third, their peculiarity of dribble is different. The speed of Cristiano Ronaldo’s action is very fast especially for Ronaldo’s legs. Cristiano Ronaldo is a dribble trickster. He always use different kind of special dribble...

Are Foootballers Paid Too Much

...Are footballers paid too much? Football is now a multi-billion pound business it generates serious debate when it comes to money and most often when it comes to player’s pay. In this essay I will give views of both sides of the said argument above and will show just why people feel so strongly about how much money footballers earn. I will also give a conclusion on my personal beliefs of this. Many people around the world have a vast belief that footballers are paid far too much amounts of money, with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Yaya Touré and Lionel Messi earning up to £300,000 a week for kicking a ball around a pitch. Whilst it would take around two or three years or even more than that for a teacher, policeman, fireman or doctor to earn this amount. The belief is that every premiership player in big leagues such as the English, Spanish, German and Italian leagues are the ones who earn too much, whereas players in lower leagues such as lower Scottish divisions or even lower English ones earn minuscule amounts. The majority of footballers in the world are on low wages and a large sum of these people are only playing part time but that doesn’t take away the fact that thousands and thousands of players are on big money a week when this money could be used to create more jobs for unemployed and homeless people and to give money to people who actually do the world a service. Such as surgeons or policemen who are trying to do good for the cities and countries in which they...
