Thanks

We would like to thank two RTL employees who received us at the RTL headquarters to answer our question, about the management style but mostly the culture of RTL. That was really helpful to understand how things have worked during the history of this emblematic radio station across the time.

Thanks to Jean-Sébastien Petitdemange, host of the show “Itinéraire d’un auditeur gaté” and working for RTL for more than 15 years & journalist for “Midi en France” on France 3. And Claude Joly producer of the Petitdemange show.

Everybody knows the radio station RTL. It is the eldest generalist radio station, which remains the most listened station in France, despite of the blips of the media landscape but also despite the swirls in their own history.

Radio Tele Luxembourg, a radio network from Luxembourg, was created in 1931. At the beginning, the radio transmitter was located at the Grand-Duché of Luxembourg, in the city of Junglinster. It was the only private French speaking radio that people could hear in Northern Europe, and more particularly in Belgium and France. It is useful to remember that during this period, radio stations could not install their transmitters in France because of the TSF state monopoly. And quickly, Radio Luxembourg gained a large audience in France.
During the World War II, the radio station was obliged to let the III Reich to use their transmitter. But after the

Shawna Hardesty Ethical Dilemmas

...According to the report, Shawna Hardesty who was employed as a nursing assistant at Fountain City nursing home for a year was fired in August 2010 after she punched a 93-year-old patient in the head three times with a fist. A large “baseball-sized” bruise was on the forehead of the patient. Hardesty would punch her patient every time she came into her room, such as after breakfast. The administrator of the nursing home was interviewed and said they train employees how to deal with stress, and how to treat patients properly as safety is important to them. In this report, Hardesty was charged with physical abuse which is purposely hurting another person’s body. This is because it wasn’t an accident that she punched her patient’s body leaving a bruise if she would punch her every time she enters her room. Furthermore, because the nursing assistant actually touched the patient who didn’t want to be touched and injured her forehead, Hardesty could also be charged with battery. Battery is actually touching someone in an unwelcome or harmful way. The ethical implications of Hardesty’s behavior are devastating as it could result in the patient believing that this might be how all nursing assistants are like, if the patient wasn’t treated by any other assistants. If this was the case, the patient might not allow any nursing assistants to come near her in fear of being punched again. The patient might think no one appreciates her and loves her, because she is getting punched instead...

Analyzing Netflix

...get the chance to influence their own televi-sion program. Most TVs have the ability to install applications, like Netflix. Older screens can be updated by a small hardware player to get this capability. Usually living room video entertainment is done by traditional companies like the RTL group. The customer can switch the channels, but is not able to choose his program by a remote click. Netflix is the pioneer and market leader in the US in streaming and offers shows and movies by video on demand. New streaming companies will mix up the tradi-tional market. A kind of quantum leap infects the television screen. The conver-gence of technologies combines an internet stream on the classic television. Traditional companies, like RTL, should consider following a different another strategic management course than for example Netflix. This assignment analyzes the streaming market, the forces, threats and opportu-nities as a Macro Environment Analysis. It’s a fast growing business and has a huge potential. The company Netflix is screened by a Micro Environment Analysis to show their portfolio and key figures. In the targeting and positioning part, a possible way of a strategic corporate management is developed, by references on the analysis of Porter’s three generic strategies, Ansoff and Mintzberg. For the final conclusion the current strategy will be investigated and opportunities are shown. Netflix has still some unexploited possibilities to maximize the profit and demonstrate...

Strategic Management Final Paper

...Adam Tomar Strategic Management Final (Prof. Spinello) 1.) Following WWII, fifth-generation Reinhard Mohn took over operations and slowly began to rebuild the company. Reinhard and Fritz Wixworth came up with the revolutionary idea to form a “book club,” a strategy that would remain the centerpiece of Bertelsmann for the next 50 years. Mohn and Wixworth believed that there would be significant demand by readers for books that “came to them,” especially since so many personal libraries had been destroyed during the war. Their strategy exceeded all expectations, as the book club had 100,000 members within 12 months and more than a million members within three years. Six years later, Bertelsmann expanded their revolutionary concept of personal clubs into the realm of music. Within a year, Bertelsmann built its own record-press plant and started its own music label, Ariola. By the early 1960s, the rapid growth experienced by Bertelsmann meant that the company had outgrown its existing organizational structure. Consequently, Mohn introduced a decentralized, divisional corporate structure with multiple independent profit centers. All divisions would be allowed to operate autonomously as long as their profits exceeded a hurdle rate, a strategy that Mohn coined “leadership from the center.” At the same time, Mohn created a set of principles and values called the “Bertelsmann Essentials” on which the organization should be based. With these values in mind, Bertelsmann continued to...

Clinical Context for Alarm Management

...Innovations series that explores alarm management strategies from a military perspective. According to Daniel McFarlane, Sc.D. of Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories, the approaches being used across hospital settings continue to present similar challenges: ignored alarm signals because of fatigue, lengthy practitioner response rates to alarms, and provider confusion over which alarms are important. “The lack of actionable intelligence from alarm signals makes it impossible for nurses to effectively triage their multitasking among multiple patients,” noted Dr. McFarlane. “Each alarm feature considers only local conditions on separate sensors on separate instruments for separate patients. The result is an overwhelming rate of alarm signals from multiple devices associated with multiple patients that do not carry the context of information needed for nurses to understand the signals relative to their responsibility to triage their efforts.” There are 9 types of clinical context facilitated by an advanced alarm management platform that work together with advanced rules to reduce alarm fatigue and increase situational awareness: 1. Alarm Context: supplemental data delivered with an alarm or event notification; e.g. multiple data points including blood pressure, respiratory rate, and SpO2. 2. Patient Context: supplemental data about the patient derived from a real-time interface to ADT or an EMR. 3. Location Context: leverages RTLS or RFID to determine the availability...

Luckily, one of her friends was available and willing to check on her cat but the solution was not perfect because the two of them haven’t met before and her friend was not knowledgeable about cats. Any cat owner knows how difficult it is to find a trusted sitter, who not only understands the needs of your pet and of the owner but with whom you are in confidence enough to give him the keys of your flat. Catalina was always reluctant to leave her cat in a hotel or to call a professional sitter, for the same reasons: “I would not leave my cat in the hands of a stranger and give him my keys. Dba 7553 Unit Viii Article Critique

...Unit VIII Article Critique Columbia Southern University DBA 7553 1. Introduction of the Article This article is found in the Directors and Boards magazine. It is written by Donald P. Delves who “is president of the Delves Group, a compensation and corporate governance consulting firm that advises boards of directors” (Delves, 2012). The article is titled “What about everyone else? The problem may not be that executives are paid too much, but that employees are paid too little.” 2. Statement of the Problem Studied In this article, Mr. Delves examined why people complain about executive pay, how companies used to inflate employee earnings, and how companies can increase employee wages now. 3. Significance of the Problem Studied With sky rocketing pay for many executives over the last few decades, many employees have wondered why their pay has not also increased. In the past companies have used stock options to provide incentive for employees and to use these as a pathway to increase employee pay. However with the economic recession and many of the changes in accounting practices, companies could no longer use this incentive to increase wages for employees. Thus Mr. Delves presents the question, “what do we do about [increasing employee incentives]?” (Delves, 2012). If this question can be answered, it has the potential to not only increase employee productivity but also to provide them with increased opportunities. ...

...The Concept of Program Reengineering J. Olivia Prince-Griffin PAD 500 Modern Public Administration Professor Popejoy May 19, 2012 Abstract This assignment will cover 4 specific areas as it relates to Mayor Schell’s unique initiative to eliminate homeless in Seattle. This report will cover Mayor Schell’s policies choices and their practical outcome. It will cover restructuring Mayor Schell’s program to fit new objectives. Lastly, the report will analyze the importance of conducting assessments prior to new program implementation. Introduction On June 2, 1998, Mayor Schell made a daunting pledge to the community regarding Seattle’s homeless population. He pledged that by Christmas of that year, there would be no more homeless on the streets of Seattle. During the following months Mayor Schell and his Director of the Community Services Division of the Department of Housing and Human Services, Alan Painter, diligently strategized on how to successfully meet this pledge while weighing all the applicable factors. Four Policy Choices of Mayor Schell At the time of Mayor Schell’s pledge, there was an estimated 5,500 homeless on the streets of Seattle nightly (Draft, 2010 pg.1). Of those, 1,300 were homeless while 4,200 had temporary housing (Draft, 2010, pg.1). At that point in time, Seattle had several local programs, such Operation Nightwatch, that assisted such ones with transitional living. One of the first policy choices Schell had make was to insure...

...ventory planning Chapter 12: Inventory planning and...  Study guide | This chapter is relatively unusual in so much as it takes more of a quantitative approach to its topic. While not avoiding quantitative models where they are appropriate, the general approach of this book is to deal with operations management from a ‘general management’ point of view. Here we include some quantitative models of how inventory is managed mainly to demonstrate that some parts of the inventory decision can be quantified. In practice, most of these decision models will be embedded within an operation’s routine stock control computer system. However, whilst working through them remember that it is the underlying principles behind the models which are more important than the mathematics on which the models are based.Your learning objectivesThis is what you should be able to do after reading Chapter 12 and working through this study guide. * Understand what is meant by an inventory and why they exist. * Identify some of the advantages and disadvantages of keeping inventory in an operation. * Understand the basic principles behind the quantitative approaches to deciding how much inventory to keep. * Be able to describe the limitations of traditional quantitative models of inventory decision making. * Identify the two main approaches to managing inventory on an on-going basis. What do we mean by inventory? The chapter discusses inventory (we use the word interchangeably with the word ‘stock’)...

Outsourcing

...Outsourcing: What’s the true Impact? Cameron D. Rafford MGT 580: Intro to Organizational Behavior University of New Hampshire INTRODUCTION Outsourcing has quickly become one of the most controversial business tactics in the United States. Nowadays, if you call the customer service line of a major business or corporation, there’s a good chance you’ll end up talking to someone thousands of miles away. If you go shopping for new clothes, it’s likely that some of the shirts and pants you try on were manufactured by people from foreign countries, in shops far less glamorous than the ones the finished products end up in. Outsourcing is so commonplace in certain industries, we don’t even think twice about it anymore. But over the past few years, the trend has spread to practices far beyond call centers and apparel manufacturing. In fact, you might be surprised at the industries that rely on outsourcing now (Divine, 2010). This paper will examine the effects that outsourcing has already had on business, as well as look a little bit into the future to see what it holds for us down the road. It will focus on how it has affected our economy and society as a whole, as well as the individual organizations and their employees. There are both positive and negative impacts of this way of doing business that need to be realized and accounted for in order for the economy and American business to remain strong. We will reflect...

With this knowledge, he is now responsible to take steps to identify the errors due to fraud in the financial statements. Initially, Reed and his audit team should assess the risks within Smith Company such as the motives and where opportunities exist to commit fraud. Once all the risk information is gathered, the next step is to audit Smith Company’s financial statements to see if they are prepared in accordance with GAAP and if they are not to identify any material misstatements. During the course of the audit, they should plan and develop tests that account for the risks assessed. As with any audit, Reed, CPA and his staff must “conduct the audit with due professional care and an attitude of professional skepticism.” (Boynton & Johnson. 2006, p. 58) B. Identify and describe Reed’s responsibility to report Smith’s errors and fraud. If Reed, CPA detects that Smith Company’s financial statements are materially misstated, then he should notify the management at Smith Company and have them revise them so that they are in accordance to GAAP with all proper disclosures.
