Rugby vs American Football

General purpose: to persuade & gain the audiences interest

Specific purpose: to get the audience to want to learn more about rugby, and hopefully pass their interest onto their friends and family

Thesis: Rugby is everywhere; understanding just a little about the game would bring a common interest between you and the rest of the world

Attention: When will our nation (US) get its head out of their asses and realize we are focused on the wrong things for entertainment?

Credibility: Over 20 years experience in American football and 12 years experience in Rugby; I believe I have enough time in to be considered a reliable source

Preview: I want to share some comparisons with facts and personal experience
Main Body
A.) I’ll discuss where the two games derived
B.) I’ll talk about the differences between injuries, and which game you’re most likely to get injured
C.) Lastly, I’ll break down the game by giving you some statistics on how much actual game time action you observe on average during a single game

Benefits:
1.) Rugby is a year round sport
2.) The only equipment needed to play rugby are cleats and a mouth guard
3.) Rugby is played on every continent, and in almost every country

Solutions:
1.) Use the internet to watch videos and learn more about the rules
2.) Search for nearby teams and look on the schedule for a nearby game
3.) Rent a movie that contains rugby ( ie., Invictus, Forever Strong)

Conclusion
Action: Rugby will be part of the 2016 Summer Olympics. There is still enough time to learn enough about the game to be able to follow the newest sport in the Olympics (which the US will be a contender in)
Zinger: Don’t keep contributing to the ignorance of American sports fans, by not noticing one of the worlds’ largest sports and soon to be a dominating US sport.

Cause and Effect on Divorce

...Football vs. Rugby When someone mentions physical sports, the most physical that come to mind are football and rugby. Each sport would be called physical because there are big hits and both require physical and mental toughness. Though football and rugby are similar, they are different along the lines of equipment use, rules and players. Equipment use amongst football and rugby players are different. Football players use a helmet, hip pads, thigh pads, a tail pad, shoulder pads, and knee pads to protect players who have a size disadvantage. Also the use of pads and helmets enables a football player to take big hits and not be as damaged if they didn’t have a helmet at all. Rugby, however, uses no pads at all when hit there is nothing to absorb the shock making it harder to recover. The rules in football and rugby are more different than similar. In football after being tackled the offense has 45 seconds to pick a play, hike the ball, and attempt to score a touchdown. In football’s point system a touchdown is worth six points, a field goal is worth three points, a safety is worth two points, which tackling the offense behind the defense’s goal line, or two point conversion and one point for an extra point otherwise known as P.A.T, point after touchdown. After being tackled a rugby player has several options: running with the ball until downed or until there is another chance to pass the ball, hiking the ball down field, or immediately passing the ball to teammates. If the...

Football History

...The history of American football can be traced to early versions of rugby football and association football. Both games have their origin in varieties of football played in Britain in the mid-19th century, in which a football is kicked at a goal and/or run over a line. American football resulted from several major divergences from rugby, most notably the rule changes instituted by Walter Camp, considered the "Father of American Football". Among these important changes were the introduction of the line of scrimmage and of down-and-distance rules.[1][2][3] In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gameplay developments by college coaches such as Eddie Cochems, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Knute Rockne, and Glenn "Pop" Warner helped take advantage of the newly introduced forward pass. The popularity of college football grew as it became the dominant version of the sport in the United States for the first half of the 20th century. Bowl games, a college football tradition, attracted a national audience for college teams. Boosted by fierce rivalries, college football still holds widespread appeal in the US. The origin of professional football can be traced back to 1892, with William "Pudge" Heffelfinger's $500 contract to play in a game for the Allegheny Athletic Association against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association was formed. This league changed its name to the National Football League (NFL) two years later, and eventually became the...

The Little Prince

...PROJECT IN P.E. Submitted by: Eia Celine Dg. Arellano Submitted to: MR. Alfred sta. maria SINGLE ELIMINATION A single-elimination tournament, also called an Olympic system tournament, a knockout, cup or sudden death tournament, is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match or bracket is immediately eliminated from winning the championship or first prize in the event. This does not always mean that the defeated competitor will not participate further in the tournament; in some such tournaments, consolation or "classification" contests are subsequently held among those already defeated to determine the awarding of lesser places, for example, a third place playoff. Where more than two competitors can play in each match, such as in a shootout poker tournament, players are removed when they can no longer play until one player remains from the group. This player moves on to the next round. A simple way to describe a single-elimination tournament is that the winner of each match moves on and the loser fails to progress in the tournament. Some advantages of single elimination tournaments are: * the participants understand them easily * they are the simplest tournaments to conduct * they are useful in determining a champion for preliminary tournaments, such as a round robin * they determine the champion in the shortest time compared with other tournaments * they can be conducted with limited facilities * they can accommodate...

These could include: Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola, Apple and Microsoft, GM and Ford Motor Company, or any other well-known pair of competitors. 1. To thoroughly determine how each corporate culture differs from the other, I will start with the history of Coca Cola. Type of the company: Public Website: http://www.cocacola.com Employees: As of 2010, The Coca-Cola Company employed just under 140,000 people worldwide. Let’s began with the background on the Coca-Cola Company history from 1886, when an Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John Pemberton, began to produce Coca-Cola syrup for sale in fountain drinks. The bottling business however, began in 1899 when two Chattanooga businessmen, Benjamin F. Thomas and Joseph B. Whitehead, secured the exclusive rights to bottle and sell Coca-Cola for most of the United States from The Coca-Cola Company. See “LONNIE, 2003” This agreement stayed in place and operated solely as and independent, local business until the beginning of 1980s with certain bottling franchises began to consolidate. In 1986, The Coca-Cola Company merged some of its company-owned operations...

If sport was not about the game, then arguably, sport would be about the money. Each and every week, transfers of players are made, ticket offices receive income, and money is handed from one profiteering person to the next. Where sport is widely thought to be about fair play, professional sport is, in fact, like war. There can only be one winner and what one team or individual gains, the other loses.
