Benjamin Franklin and the founding fathers pioneered an idea that a country could be run by the people, which was in direct opposition to the rule they were under in Britain. Both Mr.West and the women humanoid feed off each other in this film with scenes that held symbolic meaning to both life today and past life. A very important thing that Kanye fail to realize is that regardless of race people act similar when it comes to having power and being different. What Kanye have basically done with his short film symbolically is a switch within the role of dominance from white to black. When symbolically speaking should have shown a world with equal dominance from all people of different race and color. In Runaway there is a scene where Kanye and his humanoid girlfriend are at a dinner table with other guest as they prepare to eat. Everybody at the long white dinner table was of color, black or African descent, and most of the servants were white women. Kanye along with his guest wore white, which signified purity, as opposed to the white women who wore black to signify the switch within the dominate role of society. ...The runaway This passage is untitled « The runaway » but it’s actually « On the Rainy River » which is a short story written by Tim O’Brien. This American author published in 1990 « The Things They Carried », a collection of related stories about a platoon of American soldiers in the Vietnam War. While modeled after the author’biography and sharing the same name, Tim is a fictional character and not the author who’s intentionally blurs this distinction, even though he has also been drafted overthere. To sum up briefly, the character, 21, tells us how his storybook world collapsed when he received a draft notice for the Vietnam War. We’ll fisrt develop the dilemma which tortures Tim. Then we’ll analyze the role of the second character, Elroy, and the unexpected « nonconformist » punch line. This excerpt takes place in Minnesota where Tim is fishing on the Rainy River which marks the border between the USA and Canada. It deals with the issues of whether the war he has been drafted into is right and if he should go to the war or be a coward and run away from the war. The dilemma is hard. The draft, at least during the Vietnam war, was a sort of lottery that determined the order of men, by birthdate, to serve as soldiers. The general emotion throughout the song is sadness, because you feel bad for each of the girls and the situations they are in. The song can even make you feel a little empathy. As well as feeling bad for the girls in the song, you also start to understand where they are coming from, with wanting to just escape the situation that you’re in, because you feel like if you stay, it will only continue to get worse. Another poetic device that he uses is rhyme. Rhyming is often used in hip-hop and rap songs to make the lyrics flow together. The last word in every line rhymes with the word in the previous line, but only during the verses. The only parts that do not rhyme in “Runaway Love” are the hook and the outro.
