...SAHIL RAWAL BA320 1/29/2015 CHAPTER – 5 Case Incident 1 On the Costs of Being Nice Questions 5-16 do you think employees must choose between agreeable employees and top performers? Why or why not? 5-16 Yes, I believe that employers must choose between agreeable employees and top performers. In an ideal world, employees would have both these qualities: agreeability and great performance. However, for the most part – as the case states – agreeable employees tend to be good-natured, cooperative, trusting and accommodating, whereas top performers tend to focus on being leaders, or doing what is needed to do the job right, without caring for others. If an employer find amongst its possible future employees who have both these qualities, he or she should definitely be hired. If both qualities are not present in a single candidate for employment, then the employer must decide which is more important for the company: agreeability or top performance. 5-17 often, the effects of personality depends on the situation. Can you think of some job situation in which agreeableness is an important virtue, and some in which it is harmful to job performance? 5-17 Agreeability is always important if you want your firm to have a good working environment and not a hostile one. However, there are instances in which being agreeable is more important. Such cases may be when dealing with others. For instance, people who work in the customer service sector must be agreeable, as customer...

...CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR Service Quality Perceptions of Domestic Airline Consumers in India: An Empirical Study SUBMIITED TO: MEENAKSHI HANDA BY: SAHIL MALHOTRA (13) RAHUL KALRA (39) Abstract Pricing and service quality are the key variables that decide the brand equity of each player in the airline industry. Existing literature suggests that measurement and management of service quality is the key for survival of airline companies. This research paper examines the service quality delivered by four major airlines in India on the backdrop of stiff competition in the airline service sector. The process of traveling on a domestic airline was divided into pre-flight, in- flight and post-flight experiences. A survey was conducted to find out the perceived service quality of frequent fliers on each of the four airlines across a series of service performance variables. The airline brands were positioned in a perceptual space, where the perceived service attributes were also mapped. Clear differences emerged among the airlines, with two of them perceived as being similar to each other, and the other two differing in many respects. INTRODUCTION India at present has twelve competing airlines in the domestic market as against a single government owned airline in 1991. According to McKinsey Quarterly (2005), the Indian aircraft market is the world’s second largest commercial aircraft market. On-time performance and service levels have risen dramatically and fares have...

Book Club Isu Essay

...Book Club ISU Essay To respect one’s reputation or to be full of pride and ego is what differentiates between a righteous and respectable person and an arrogant one. The books, “Alias Grace”, “Call of the Wild”, “Wuthering Heights” and “Mayor of Casterbridge” all demonstrate that by protecting ones pride only leads to more destruction of it. “Alias Grace” written by Margaret Atwood, shows this with the possession of Grace’s body and with the accusations made towards Grace. “Call of Wild” by Jack Landon also demonstrates this theme with the killing of Curly, and the transformation of Buck. Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights” illustrates this with the interference of class difference in love and the pride of two people coming in the way of their union. Finally, in “Mayor of Casterbridge” by Thomas Hardy, the main character’s stubbornness and pride of protecting his name leads to damaging his personal relationships, work and eventually his life. The first book, “Alias Grace” was shared by group member, Angel. She felt this book was “Interesting, with a hidden arrogance and pride laced within the characters." In the book it shows how after the truth of Mary possessing Grace’s body is disclosed, Mary wishes that Grace is kept oblivious to the truth so her image does not get lowered in the eyes of Grace. This shows Mary’s character valuing what her friend thinks of her rather than respecting her enough to tell the truth. This also shows how Mary would not object having her friend...

Why the Sahel

...Why uyyyyy your youndhsjxbsqndjdj chdhcndiucndSahel, Arabic Sāḥil, Sahel [Credit: NSSL/NOAA]semiarid region of western and north-central Africa extending from Senegal eastward to The Sudan. It forms a transitional zone between the arid Sahara (desert) to the north and the belt of humid savannas to the south. The Sahel stretches from the Atlantic Ocean eastward through northern Senegal, southern Mauritania, the great bend of the Niger River in Mali, Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta), southern Niger, northeastern Nigeria, south-central Chad, and into The Sudan. The semiarid steppes of the Sahel have natural pasture, with low-growing grass and tall, herbaceous perennials. Other forage for the region’s livestock (camel, pack ox, and grazing cattle and sheep) includes thorny shrubs and acacia and baobab trees. The thorny scrub once formed a woodland, but the country is now more open and relatively traversable by motor vehicle. The terrain is chiefly of the savanna type, with little continuous cover and a dangerous tendency to merge into desert because of overstocking and overfarming. At least eight months of the year are dry, and rain, confined to a short season, averages 4–8 inches (100–200 mm), mostly in June, July, and August. There are also wide areas of pasturage watered by the flooding Niger and Sénégal rivers. Modest crops of millet and peanuts (groundnuts) can be raised in many areas. In the second half of the 20th century, the Sahel was increasingly afflicted by...
