Samuel “Sam” Winchester
Sam born on May 2, 1983 is the son of Marry and John Winchester. His mother was killed on the night of his six month birthday when a demon engulfed her in flames. Sam then lived on the move with his father and older brother Dean learning to hunt supernatural beings. As Sam grew older he realized he no longer wanted to hunt the supernatural, he then moved on to Stanford University in hopes of becoming a lawyer and living a life away from “monsters”. While in Stanford, Sam meets his girlfriend Jessica, whom he had planned to marry. His plans were ruined when the same demon that killed Sam’s mother killed Jessica. Sam devastated, once again teamed up with his brother Dean, to hunt the demon that plagued his life.

Dean Winchester Born on January 24, 1979 to Mary and John Winchester. When Dean was four his mother was killed by a demon known as “Yellow Eyes”. After the death of his mother, Dean’s father searched the world, hunting supernatural creatures, in hopes of finding the demon that killed Mary. While John hunted the supernatural, he believed it was safer to leave both Dean and his younger brother Sam in various motels away from the mysterious creatures. Since the brothers were often left unattended, Dean took the responsibility of protecting and caring for Sam. This feeling of the need to protect Sam from anything and everything has never left Dean. As Sam began to show resentment for the ruined unstable childhood his father had given him, Dean had viewed his father differently. Dean looked up to his father and when he was younger referred to John as “the coolest superhero that kills monsters!” Unlike Sam, Dean continued to hunt, and when Sam returned to hunting in the “family business” Dean was happy to have his brother back.

Sam and Dean Winchester
Brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester are the main characters on the television series, Supernatural. The duo hunt unnatural beings that invade the earth. While the show reveals, that Sam and Dean are not the only supernatural hunters, they have something other hunters do not. They have each other. Knowing that someone has your back has proven to be both a negative and positive for Sam and Dean. They have both died and went to horrific places such as hell for each other, but being that this is a T.V. show both characters have yet to die and actually stay dead. Hunting the supernatural is a hard, dark, and lonely job. Hunters die or lose their skills simply because they have lost their will and motivation to continue. Unlike your typical hunters, Sam and Dean keep each other going and will not let the other simply give up. This is similar to the characters George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck. George feels obligated to look out for Lennie and help him through life, much like Dean feels the need to always protect and look after Sam. Also, George and Lennie claim they are different from other farmers because they have each other to look after, “I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you.”(14). This is exactly why Dean and Sam are not like other hunters, because they have each other. Both pairs have a companion who give them the motivation to continue with their goals, whether it’s George and Lennie having their own farm, or Sam and Dean fighting to continue living.

Sam Winchester Monologue

...the morning, a Tuesday ironically, when Billy gets the call to collect Sam Winchester’s soul. She's surprised that Sam is being collected, and Dean isn't, because she had always assumed they would go out swinging, together. When she gets to Sam, the scene before her is nothing like she imagined the younger Winchester’s death to look like. There are no demons, or angry spirits, he isn't killed by a wendigo, or a witch. He's killed by a seventeen year old boy, driving an old Chevy pickup. Sam is lying almost motionless, in the middle of a quiet road. He’s the victim of a hit and run. There’s an awful lot of blood surrounding him, pooling around his chest, and his blood is bubbling rhythmically from his mouth. As a reaper, she's seen her fair share of hit and run deaths, but this is different. This is Sam Winchester, the man who saved the world from Apocalypse, not once but twice, the man who rid the world of the devil, twice. The man who has killed thousands of evil creatures alongside his brother, and now here he lay, in...

Personal Narrative: The Hero's Journey

...a hero’s story. However, Joseph Campbell wrote out a pattern that seems to be true for many heroes in today’s popular culture, known as “The Hero’s Journey.” Eric Kripke has certainly demonstrated Campbell’s hero pattern with twelve steps, when he created the character, Dean Winchester, in the hit television series, Supernatural. The Hero’s Journey’s first step, known as “The Ordinary World” which has the hero living his or her life in peace and quiet. The very first five minutes start out with a four year-old Dean running into his infant brother, Sam’s nursery to say goodnight to him. He is greeted by his parents, John and Mary who tuck both the young boys in for the night. So, Dean is living the normal life of a young boy with his and loving parents and little brother....

Character Analysis of Dean Winchester

...2013 Through the Eyes of Dean Winchester: On the Road and On the Hunt In my favorite TV show, Supernatural, one of the protagonists and my favorite character is Dean Winchester, a certainly very round character. The series begins in Lawrence, Kansas with the demonic death of Dean’s mother Mary. Consequently he, his brother Sam, and his father John are thrust into the world of the supernatural. John becomes obsessed with hunting the evil he encounters and ultimately tracking down the demon that killed Mary. As Dean grows, he learns more and more about hunting, weaponry, and the supernatural creatures that haunt this world. Due to circumstance, he is forced to grow up at an early age as he helps his father and fills the maternal role for Sam. Dean is such a standout and memorable character to me because of his never-failing selflessness, fierce protective nature, and emotionally complex mind. Throughout the show, it is easy to see how selfless Dean is. In his mind, family always comes first no matter the consequences or what may happen to him. Growing up moving from place to place with his hunter father and young brother, Dean learns family is all he has. He and his father had a militaristic relationship in that Dean did whatever he was told and never questioned anything or argued. He put aside any dreams or aspirations he may have had to stick with his dad and help him get revenge while also taking care of young Sam. As Dean and Sam begin to go on hunting missions...

Short Story: John Winchester

...Sam stared out the truck’s windshield willing time to go quicker. He was hunting a coven of witches. Witches were tricky to hunt because hunters had to work closely with other hunters, DHH, and the men of letters. So here he sits in John Winchester’s trucking waiting for the DHH to give them the ok to go in and apprehend the witches. If he could have, he would have ignored the call from the DHH, but it was better to hunt some witches than getting on the DHH bad side. However, sitting next to John Winchester, he was reconsidering his decision about answering that call. His alpha was squirming to come out and challenge John. Also, under the strong scent of alpha was the sweet scent of omega. So, of course, his thoughts trailed to Dean. Dean...

Generally, those journalists do a competent job of reporting on the prospect’s record. In the case of Governor George W. Bush, Texas reporters had written numerous stories about his failed businesses in the oil patch, the dubious land grab and questionable funding behind a new stadium for Bush’s baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his various political contradictions and hypocrisies while serving in Austin.
