Samuel S. Cox

The man who didn’t know that he had housed a killer. Samuel Cox had taken a role in something that made a change in U.S. history. How did Samuel Cox help? Most importantly, how did Samuel Cox impact the assassination plot of Abraham Lincoln?
Samuel S. Cox was born on September 30th 1824, in Zanesville, Ohio. He attended Ohio University and Brown University in Rhode Island. Before he got into politics his first high school job was a newspaper editor. He was interested in law and politics. While he was in Ohio he established law practice in Cincinnati. Local agriculture was important in Charles County. He farmed 37 to 55 years after he finished school. Cox received lots of agriculture awards. He owned several slaves himself but treated them well, since he did not like the idea of slavery. Most slaves in Charles County admired Samuel Cox. Cox was a volunteer in military service. Samuel Cox met John Benedict by being troops together. John died in Samuel’s father’s house. Samuel Cox was well known and “popular” in Charles County. He was a known horse jockey. He had a great deal for racing horses. He served on jury several times which helped him pursue into politics. Samuel Cox became a road supervisor for Road 22 in Charles County. Samuel Cox officially fell in an interest when he attended a whig convention. While he was there he got elected as a whig delegate. He also appointed Justice of the Magistrates Court. Charles County agreed with Cox to install a railroad. The railroad ran from Baltimore to the Potomac. It would pass through Charles County making it accessible for traveling use. Samuel Cox was named after his grandfather. Samuel’s grandfather married his cousin Walter Ann Cox who was named after her father. The Cox family history goes a long way to keep their name alive.
Samuel Cox does have a lot of history of good and bad. He was a very well known man. A great politician and political leader during his life and in his area. Samuel Cox did have an impact on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Luckily for him he only got an easy punishment. If he would have played a bigger role I bet he would have possibly been sentenced for life or even
