Satsuki has been serving high-end Japanese food in Bloomington, Illinois since 1990. Bloomington and Normal are twin-cities with the combined population of 90,000 where State Firm Insurance, the largest property and casualty insurance company in the US by revenues, is headquartered. Satsuki was very profitable from the beginning (annual net income of about 100,000 dollars). Upon its success in Bloomington, the owner wanted to open a similar restaurant in Champaign. She thought that in Champaign, like in Bloomington, there was a high-income population that would appreciate authentic Japanese cuisine.( Satsuki’s owner asked a prestigious consulting firm in Chicago to study the feasibility of the new restaurant. The consulting firm extensively analyzed demographic data and interviewed Champaign residents. The study concluded the prospect of the Champaign restaurant to be promising, and even predicted that the net income of the first year of the Champaign operation would reach $80,000. Encouraged by the study, the Satsuki’s owner went ahead with the plan. In order to start the operation smoothly, she hired the manager of Goldcreek, the restaurant in Champaign with a well-established history; the manager had a good reputation of raising high revenues at Goldcreek. Also, to have the Champaign restaurant provide quality food, the owner brought in a chef with excellent credentials from Japan. The Champaign restaurant opened in 1999. In the first year, despite the bright prospect, the Champaign restaurant lost $80,000. The second year’s loss was worse; the number rose to $120,000. In the third year, the loss was $200,000. Questions 1. Was Satsuki’s decision to expand into Champaign appropriate? Answer either “Appropriate” or “Not appropriate.” No other answer is allowed. 2. Given your answer to Question 1, what is (are) possible reason(s) for the losses of the Champaign restaurant?

Murakami's Report

...Except to truly appreciate each of these short stories Murakami invites his readers to go more into depth and analyze each of them. Each of these stories are not the types of stories you can just pick up and read, they each deserve to be thoughtfully read and create a thought provoking . This is because each story contains unpredictable situations. In “thailand” Murakami does this by making certain things have a deeper meaning than what they seem to originally appear as. Such as Jazz, for Satsuki jazz is comfort, memories of her childhood and father. Then for both Satsuki and Nimit jazz was what bonds them. Another, example of where Murakami uses symbolism in the short story “thailand” is the element of water and how it seemed to mean clarity and seemed to be almost cleansing in some ways for Satsuki. Also the water could have stood for more negative things such as the loneliness of swimming by herself could parallel her life and having no children or family. I appreciate the use of symbolism and the thought provoking piece in each of the stories. It allows the reader to get more involved with the story and can connect to the characters...

...( Griesbauer). After the people realized the truth, they stop consuming this kind of fish. On the other hand, the fish were still be able to survive under this severe condition in the bay. In Nausicaa, he illustrated the fukai (Sea of Decay), fungi, giant insects, and deadly plants which represented the severe condition of the environment. The colour used on the environment was dull to show the consequences of destroying the nature. In his another well-known product, My neighbor Totoro (1988), it again showed the mistreatment towards the environment by the mankind. This film focuses on the implantation of awareness towards the environment. He portrayed the relationship between humans and environment. Religious and Ethnic Groups

...Xiomara Boyce ETH/125 7/19/2013 Religious and Ethnic Groups: Buddhist and Asians For my Religious and Ethnic Groups Paper I have chosen to write about Asian and Buddhism (Theravada). I chose to write my paper on the Asian community, because I have always been curious to their culture and their way of life. I find the Asian community to be very intriguing, colorful and vibrant. I decided that since I was going to research about Asian culture I would do my religion portion of the paper on Buddhism, the Theravada beliefs. The religion of Buddhism is based off of the teachings of a man named Siddhartha. This man was born in Nepal about 500 years before Jesus; destine to be a great ruler or a holy man. He was sheltered from the outside walls of the palace by his father, a king in India, who thought that by doing so he would go down the path of being a ruler. Little did the king know that the sheltered life only brought him more towards the road of enlightenment. Siddhartha experienced 4 events when he finally left the palace for daily outings. The first of the events was an older man, and he’s never seen old people before, his servant called it change and told him how everyone gets old. The second event was a sick man, the servant told him everybody gets sick, and your father will get sick you will get sick. The third event was seeing a dead body; this event affected him the most when he realized that in the end everybody dies. On the fourth trip he sees a religious person meditating...

Unkown

...Step 1: Forward. (前進。) ~ He poked his head around the corner, holding the children behind him back. When it looked clear, he ducked back down to crouch at their eye level. It was hard to miss the look of excitement in most of his students' eyes, but he could hardly fault them that. It had been his idea, after all. "Okay, there's no one this way. Let's be very, very quiet. We're going to head for the east exit, but if that one is blocked off, there is a window loose in the art classroom. Aki-kun, Emi-chan, lead the way. And remember everyone, stay with your buddy." With barely suppressed giggles, the first pair of students stealthily crossed the empty hallway, tightly holding hands, their shoes held in their free hands. They waved back when they had made it to the other side, cueing the next pair to join them in a similar manner. The teacher dragged a hand through his messy hair, watching the children and taking cautious glances down the hallways parallel their current location. Behind him, another teacher nervously chewed her lower lip, smiling half-heartedly at the toddler she had been paired with when the girl happily swung their clasped hands back and forth. Noticing her anxiety, the teacher took a moment from his position on guard to give her a nod that was meant to be reassuring. Despite the lack of worry visible on his face, his hands tightened on his own shoes. He hoped the other students were safe. ~ "Aominecchi~! It was so intense this morning, but I finally have...
