Screw Thread Measurement.

2.0 OBJECTIVE

To measure the Major Diameter, the Minor Diameter and the Effective Diameter of a Screw Plug Gauge using Floating Carriage Diameter Measuring Machine.

3.0 INTRODUCTION Floating carriage diameter measuring machine is an precision measuring equipment, primarily used for measuring of major, minor and effective diameters of thread gages and precision threaded components. This instrument ensures that the axis of the micrometer is maintained at 90 degrees to the axis of the screw thread under test. It consists of two slides lower and upper. The lower slide moves parallel to the thread axis whereas the upper slide moves perpendicular to the thread axis. The uppers slide also called as measuring slide carries a micrometer head and a fiducial indicator. The measuring slide or carriage floats on three balls in the V grooves of the lower slide. The thimble of the micrometer is graduated for readings of 0.002 mm and vernier scale has a least count of 0.0002mm. The fiducial indicator is a highly sensitive indicator which reduces error due to the feel of micrometer. The indicator operates at a constant pressure at null position of the pointer. It has a magnification of more than 150 times to the movement of the micrometer anvil. This helps in high degree of control and repeatability required for accurate measurements. The micrometer readings are taken with indicator points in null position.
Major diameter - Major diameter is the largest diameter of the thread. For a male thread, this means "outside diameter".
Minor diameter - Minor diameter is the smallest diameter of the thread.
Pitch - Pitch is the linear distance between threads. The advantages is friction is sufficient to prevent linear motion being converted to rotary, that is so the screw does not slip even when linear force is applied to it.

...straight threading and make sure the tap thread is not damaged. Why is it important to use the correct drill size before using the tap? When using a tap to cut a thread it is important to drill the correct size hole for the particular thread that is being cut, because If the hole is drilled too large then there will be insufficient thread so that a bolt or pipe would pull out of the thread. If the hole is too small then the tap will break. How are these tools tool stored in the workshop, give reasons for this storage method? The tap wrench are in their holder and are stored in the cupboard so they are easily found, when we want to work on them. The tapes are stored in their case and stored in the cupboard so they are easily accessed and are protected from damages made by other materials What are the hazards associated with this tool and how can I use this tool safely. Taps are made of hardened steel, which provides long life and a sharp cutting surface; however, this also makes them brittle. Taps are expensive and the work piece may be priceless. Always use lubrication and great care when performing tapping operations. For load-bearing threads, always verify that the threads, fasteners, and materials are adequate for the job. The tap should be perpendicular to the work piece. Give details of how to use these tools correctly? Screw

...A screw, or fastener, is a sort of latch, ordinarily made of metal, and described by a helical edge, known as a male string (outer string) or simply string, wrapped around a barrel. Some screw strings are intended to mate with a correlative string, known as a female string (inner string), frequently as a nut or an item that has the inside string framed into it. Other screw strings are intended to cut a helical furrow in a milder material as the screw is embedded. The most widely recognized employments of screws are to hold questions together and to position objects. Screw is a framework that progressions over rotational development to direct development, and a torque (rotational force) to a straight compel. It is one of the six conventional essential machines. The most generally perceived structure involves a tube formed shaft with helical wrinkles or edges called strings around the outside. The sink goes through a hole a substitute thing or medium, with strings inside of the crevice that work with the screw's strings. Exactly when the post of the sink is rotated appreciation to the stationary strings, the screw moves along its center concerning the medium incorporating it; for occasion transforming a wood screw powers it into wood. In screw frameworks, either the screw shaft can turn through a hung hole in a stationary thing, or a hung neck area, for instance, a nut can rotate around a stationary screw shaft. Geometrically, a screw could be seen as a tight inclined plane wrapped...

Linkage

...Bolts: Bolted joints are one of the most common elements in construction and machine design. They consist of cap screws or studs that capture and join other parts, and are secured with the mating of screw threads. Screws: Threaded fasteners either have a tapered shank or a non-tapered shank. Fasteners with tapered shanks are designed to either be driven into a substrate directly or into a pilot hole in a substrate. Mating threads are formed in the substrate as these fasteners are driven in. Fasteners with a non-tapered shank are designed to mate with a nut or to be driven into a tapped hole. Nut: A nut is a type of hardware fastener with a threaded hole. Nuts are almost always used opposite a mating bolt to fasten a stack of parts together. Washer: A washer is a thin plate (typically disk-shaped) with a hole (typically in the middle) that is normally used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener. Other uses are as a spacer, spring, wear pad, preload indicating device, and locking device. Pin: A pin is a device used for fastening objects or material together. It is usually made of steel, or on occasion copper or brass. It is formed by drawing out a thin wire, sharpening the tip, and adding a head. Nail: In engineering, woodworking and construction, a nail is a pin-shaped, sharp object of hard metal or alloy, formerly wrought iron, though today a modern alloy of steel is common, used as a strong fastener. Threaded rod: Linkage offers rod for any occasion. Available in...

...Screws 1 1 SCREWS Threaded fasteners as screws, nuts and bolts are important components of mechanical structures, and machines. Screws may be used as removable fasteners or as devices for moving loads. 1.1 Screw thread The basic arrangement of a helical thread wound around a cylinder is illustrated in Fig 1.1. The terminology of an external screw threads is, Fig. 1.1: • pitch denoted by p is the distance, parallel to the screw axis, between corresponding points on adjacent thread forms having uniform spacing; • major diameter denoted by d is the largest (outside) diameter of a screw thread. • minor diameter denoted by dr or d1 , is the smallest diameter of a screw thread. • pitch diameter denoted by dm or d2 is the imaginary diameter for which the width of the threads and the grooves are equal. Screws 2 The standard geometry of a basic profile of an external threads is shown in Fig. 1.2, and it is basically the same for both Unified (inch series) and ISO (International Standards Organization, metric) threads. The lead denoted by l is the distance the nut moves parallel to the screw axis when the nut is given one turn. A screw with two or more threads cut beside each other is called multiple-threaded screw. The lead is equal to twice the pitch for a double-threaded screw, and to 3 times the pitch for a triple-threaded screw. The pitch p, lead l, and lead angle λ are represented in Fig. 1.3. How to Improve Maize Milling Machine Efficiency

...How to improve maize milling machine efficiency? This is a general question. Maize milling machine efficiency can be affected by maize milling machine operation, its technology level, the raw grain and so on. With social development, people lay more and more emphasis on food nutrition. Maize nutrition also causes our attention. Meanwhile, maize milling machine usage is more and more widely and the market has increasing demands for maize milling machine. We should abide by the operation rules to ensure the normal running. 1. When the maize flour yield is abnormal, we can draw out the screw shaft, check the cage bar and screw shaft abrasion. Change the wearing parts in time. Each lubrication part should prevent dust and other impurities. Each year, we should check the engine oil quality of the reduction gearbox once. If there has any degenerative oil, we should change all of the engine oil. 2. No quality, no production value. No quality, no market. No quality, no profits. No quality, no life. Therefore, we should try our best to improve quality, yield, safety, and reduce energy consumption. 3. To make MAIZE MILLING MACHINE usage more effective, we should operate maize milling machine according to the equipment operating instruction. Keep regular maintenance on the equipment. Avoid any error in production caused by incorrect operation. It’s better to have the professional maize milling machine engineers on scene to guide for you how to detect and maintain if you...
