SeaWorld is losing more and more visitors each year, which is causing their revenue to decrease as well. The big discussion towards SeaWorld is whether it should be shut down or not. Even though there have been many injuries and deaths at SeaWorld, SeaWorld should not be shut down because it impacts the lives of the trainers and visitors and it makes the lives of the animals at SeaWorld better.
First of all, SeaWorld makes the animals’ lives better. They have invested millions of dollars to help improve the health of the animals. SeaWorld said, “In the last three years alone, we have invested $70 million in our killer whale habitats and millions annually in support of these facilities” (LETTER). It is very palpable that SeaWorld isn’t using …show more content…
However, SeaWorld changes the lives of many of the trainers and visitors. The trainers love working with orcas. Many people may assume the trainers just do it for the money like any other job, but most of the trainers view their job as a blessing to work with orcas. The trainers and orcas build a special relationship while working together. Dr. Todd Robeck, a SeaWorld veterinarian, said, “I became a marine biologist and a veterinarian because I went to SeaWorld as a teenager. … It’s my passion and my life’s work to make sure the health and well-being of our animals are met every single day” (YOUTUBE). This relationship the trainers build with the animals encourages the trainers to go to work. The trainers don’t feel like they have to take care of the whales because it’s their job, but rather because the whales are like family to them. Wendy, an animal trainer at SeaWorld, said, “The first time I visited SeaWorld I was 19 and it changed me forever. … I knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to caring and protecting these animals and that’s exactly what I have done” (YOUTUBE). SeaWorld continues to bring happiness to people like Wendy and Dr. Robeck. After visiting SeaWorld, children are amazed and it encourages them to do more for animals and possibly become a veterinarian or animal trainer someday. Kelly Flaherty, the head animal trainer at SeaWorld Orlando, said, “SeaWorld is my life and my family. … There is nothing that compares to watching the impact that the relationships between the trainer and the whale has on the public. It’s as exciting to watch a baby whale be born as it is to watch a 6 or 10 year old in the audience. Parents have told me that their children were so affected by what they saw that they want to learn more about whales and it also changes the way they behave outside of SeaWorld” (YOUTUBE). I believe it is great to have something so

...“SLAP”, that’s the sound of a killer whale jumping into a bathtub. The audience cheers...but what they don’t know is there is a dark side to SeaWorld. You might know SeaWorld for its famous Orca Shows. Those shows that you go to are killing animals and people. I believe that killer whales should be treated fairly, be trained and cared for properly, and live a healthy lifestyle. First of all, SeaWorld's trainers are not biologists or experts… THEY ARE PERFORMERS. The “trainers” just teach the animals tricks and go in the pool with them, they don’t know how to care for them. Dawn Brancheau was killed by Tilikum or Tilly a killer whale at SeaWorld Orlando. Dawn was a senior trainer at SeaWorld and had worked their for over 15 years. Her death...
