Our consulting team is doing this intervention to help Harley-Davidson Motor Companys (HDMC) critical organizational issue of enhancing their creativity and innovation.
The designing phase of the intervention will begin in August and end in October 2011. The implementing stage will begin in November and end in October 2012. The evaluation will begin in November and end December 2012.
(short - term immediately after intervention completion january 2013. Intermediate 18 months after intervention completion july 2014 Long term 3 years after intervention completion january 2016.) The intervention will incorporate each of Kotter's (2007: 99) eight steps to leading change. The first step is to establish a sense of urgency. We will examine the market and discuss with the client the reality of their competition in order to get them to reprioritize. There are many major opportunities and potential crises that HDMC needs to be aware of but without motivation and commitment of the organizational managers the effort will go nowhere. The next step is to form a powerful guiding coalation team. Our cunsulting team will find the right number of people with good energy, level of trust, and strong authority to lead the change effort. This group will be trained to understand and not underestimate the difficulties of producing change and to also work together as a team. The following step is to create a clear vision and express it simply. This step will need to be acomplished by creating a vision that motivates people in the right direction. The vision needs to be easy to communicte and also inspire not only the people participating in the actual changes but also the stakeholders. Communicating the vision is our next step. This is where the team pulls together and communicates what needs to be done simply and honest. The fifth step is to empower others to act on the vision. HDMC needs to remove the obstacles that would prevent them from changing the systems that undermine the new vision and strategies. Kotter's sixth step for leading change is plan for and creating short-term wins. This step is important because planning and creating short-term wins will actively help the company obtain clear performance improvements. Rewarding the individuals involved in obtaining these goals will motivate the employees to continue working efficiently and diligently. Consolidate improvements and producing still more change is the following step. As the intervention carrys on and many of the goals set are being accomplished there still is a possibility that the leadership sees the suceess and declares victory too soon. Instead we need to reinvigorate the process with even more new change objectives and use the credibility gained by the short-term wins to take on even bigger problems. The last step in Kotter's leading change is institutionalise the new approaches. In order to ensure all the changes made will stick we need to anchore the new changes in the corporations culture. We will clearly express the connections between the new methods and the progressive success and develop ways to embed the changes to the corporations culture. HDMC's has a low attitude and willingness to change due to the fact that they have had to lay off many employees because of the declining demand and reduced profits. In order to boost thier attitude and alter thier negative thoughts of change we will motivate and strengthen their attitude and show them the major possibilities they are missing by their current situation. HDMC's capability to change is high because they have long term employees and resources that are able to create a new vision and accomplish the vision. Our team will utilize the skills and resources HDMC has and show them others ways in which to use these in order to achieve growth that they are capable of. Our consulting team is able to perform the intervention for HDMC. We have the requisite skills and experience that HDMC needs for this intervention to be sucessful. HDMC has not had to change thier organizations structure and because of this they have fallen into certain groups of Beitler's (2006:40-41) nine sources of complacency. HDMC has organizational structure with narrow functional goals which has caused them to have restricted creativity and innovation. In order to break this cycle of security we need to collaborate between HDMC Stying, Product Development and Manufacturing Departments to enhance and further develop their creativity and innovation.

Satisfaction Survey Study

...Satisfaction Survey Study Perspective The Satisfaction Survey Study was performed due to the very low number of respondents that had submitted satisfaction surveys during the previous year and to see what the expected number of responses should be in comparison with our peers. Methodology From January to June, 100 patient satisfaction surveys were placed throughout our facility advising patients to take one. These surveys had return envelopes attached to them, without paid postage. One designated individual was responsible for maintaining these surveys so as we could determine the number of surveys that were taken. The surveys that were placed in our office were printed on gray paper.  Goal The goals of this study are to receive a comparable percentage of patient satisfaction survey responses in comparison with our facilities. Comparison/Benchmarks A 30% to 35% response rate is satisfactory according to a study, “Survey Response Rates and Overall Patient Satisfaction Scores,” published in the Journal of Nursing Care Quality 2003 Jul-Sept. And the Patient Survey Website June 2011 Article “What Does Patient Response Mean?”.  Results At the end of the 6 month period, January to June, there were 71 surveys remaining of the original 100 placed throughout our facility by which we determined that 39 surveys had been taken. We received only 6 surveys back during this time period. This is a response rate of 15% which is 20% lower than our benchmarks. In attempts to increase...

Analyzing Lamott's Shitty First Draft

...Writing can be difficult, very difficult. But something great to remember is that writing is difficult for everybody at some point or another. Almost nobody sits down and writes a perfect first draft. Writing is a process and it takes time. In the article "Shitty First Drafts", Lamott writes about how you should have three drafts. The first draft is about getting your thoughts down. The second about fixing it up and work on editing. And the third draft is to perfect it and fix all the little mistakes and for critiquing. I've never really wrote papers this way but after reading this article I agree with Lamott that it is the most efficient way to write a paper.   In the first draft, you just want to get stuff down. A problem I tend to have...

...going to give you the paragraph for your paper. Just give a basic recap of the paragraph in the book. It may be nearly word-for-word. The second and third paragraphs allow you to describe the proposed solutions, procedures, opinions, thoughts, positions, or whatever is required to satisfy the case objectives. Write this paper in the voice the text requests or just as a written response to me. These papers will not be read to the class, nor will they be harshly graded. The purpose of the Case Projects is to engage critical thinking in the realm of the subject and communication of ideas. This is not a writing course, but written communications is important in the IT world. Your final paragraph should include a recap of the objective and solution. Please remember to keep the audience in mind. If your selected topic is a letter to other IT folks, you may use technical jargon without a ton of explanation. However, if you’re to write a user policy for example, you should tone down the tech talk to end-user level. Remember to include AT LEAST one external source in each of your papers. This source may be anything you’d like as long as it has something, anything, to do with the subject and comes from a reputable source. We will be using the MLA standards for our citations. I have included a link to Purdue University’s OWL web site at the bottom of this paper. It’s a great source of information for these papers. You don’t need to create a separate...

My Aproach to Writing

...Yessenia Amaya My approach to writing I have many goals for my English course, and one of those goals is to get into the habit of writing more. By getting into the habit of writing more I am going to accomplish my second goal which is to fix my spelling and grammar. For example learn where to put my commas and periods and learn how to spell words I don’t really use. Another major goal I have for this course is to learn how to target my audience, learn who my audience is and write to the appeal of that audience. My final goal and the most important goal I have for this course is to get an A+. My plan is to try and hand in everything on time and not miss a class. I hope I can accomplish these goals. I also always set up goals when writing an academic paper. For example, I try and get the least grammar spelling errors as possible. I also set goals to finish my papers a paper a certain time so I have time to proofread and revise my paper. And the most important goal I set when I write is to hand in my paper on time. With these goals I hope to get a better grade. I have many challenges when I write. My biggest challenges when writing for others is trying not to have many grammars and spelling errors, but I always do. Another challenge I have is that I don’t know if I’m getting through to my audience or not. I’m also always concerned if I’m giving enough information to the person I’m writing to, in other words being informative. And my biggest challenge might be that the...

How to Write a White Paper

...Steps to writing a proper white paper… Use a Linear, Logical Approach: a white paper must be educational, not promotional in tone. And should posses the following objectives: It must attract the right audience. White papers are highly audience specific, it is better to write white papers tailored toward different groups of stakeholders. Must engage the reader; engage by showing them that you understand their problem and that you can “relate”. Or by quickly showing mastery of the subject, through good clear writing. It must inform your reader. Written more like an objective magazine article than a sales brochure. they should objectively present a problem, the business case for solving the problem, and alternative ways of solving the problem. Therefore, the reader gains knowledge from having invested the time to read the paper. Ultimately the reader feels informed, not sold. It must convince your reader; to convince reader to give your organisation consideration based information that you have presented. Example, if your product has a high up-front cost but lower maintenance costs, your paper might include an analysis of ongoing “hidden” costs and a ROI model that shows how a high initial investment might actually be more cost-effective over the life of the purchase. Your Title Is Key to Success of Paper: A creative, meaningful title drives readership, whether you promote your paper online, distribute it at a conference, or pitch it to trade magazine editors. The content...

Paper Brigguetes

...How to Make Charcoal from Paper By Karren Doll Tolliver, eHow Contributor Homemade paper charcoal briquettes can be used in backyard grills.  Commercial charcoal for grilling food is expensive and can be harmful to the environment. However, industrious do-it-yourselves can make their own "charcoal" from newspaper. This reduces the amount of newspaper refuse as well as the amount of commercial charcoal consumed. In addition, no lighter fluid is needed with the homemade charcoal paper. Therefore, petroleum-based products are also conserved. Making your own charcoal takes only water and a washtub. The time spent forming the charcoal paper briquettes is negligible, although they need to dry for a couple of days in the sun. Things You'll Need • Washtub • Water • Old newspaper Instructions 1 Tear the old newspaper into pieces about the size of your hand or smaller. 2 Place all the torn newspaper pieces in the washtub. Cover with water and let sit for at least one hour. The newspaper will be ready when it is thoroughly saturated with water and is mushy to the touch. 3 Grab a large handful of the mushy newspaper. Form it into a ball about the size of a golf ball or ping pong ball, squeezing out as much water as you can. Repeat until all the mushy newspaper is in ball form. Discard the water. 4 Place the wet newspaper balls in the sun for at least two days. Do not let them get rained on. They must be completely dry and brittle. At this point they are ready for use in the same...

5 Forces Analysis

...5 Forces Analysis on the Paper Industry Looking at the position of the paper industry relative to the five forces model I had to determine exactly what constituted the paper industry. I had to decide between the Paper Mills Industry and Pulp Mills Industry and ultimately decided to analyze the Paper Mills Industry specifically when it came to paper industry as a whole. The NAICS Code that corresponds to the Paper Mills Industry is NAICS: 322121 or SIC Code 2621. Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition includes the firm’s, or in this case the paper mill industry’s, position relative to current competitors, suppliers, customers, potential new entrants and potential substitutes. Over the next few pages I will conduct a five forces analysis of the Paper Mills Industry. Current Competitors: The degree of rivalry in the paper industry is the center of the five forces and the other four forces branch off of this. The first aspect to look at is the number and position of companies within the paper industry. There were 445 companies in 2009 and as of 2013 there are now 119 companies in the industry. This industry still has many competitors within the industry and therefor, there shouldn’t be any impact of any particular company. This industry is large enough where these firms can prosper without having to steal market share from each other and this is a positive for the paper industry. The second key factor is the industry growth rate and if there is room to increase revenues...

Personal Narrative: My Individual Writing Process

...Thinking about my individual writing process has caused me to forget how I begin a paper. It’s strange to think about the concept of what writing is before you actually write something. After reading over the assigned pages to give me the help I need to discover what my individual writing process is I “skimmed” over freewriting. I tend to just start writing and let my thoughts flow and I feel like it’s what best suits my writing style. So here we go. My individual writing process includes freewriting, lists, and looping. I like to use freewriting because I enjoy continually writing and letting my ideas flow out. Sometimes when I get stuck, it helps me to have a list of the things that I want to include in my writing so I can elaborate and expand on them. After I get to a certain point, I use the process of looping. Looping can be considered a side effect of freewriting. I loop by rereading what I have written and decide if I like the order and the theme of my...

English 101

...that the college level class would be the death of me. As I read over the syllabus for this class it states that we will learn to understand writing assignments as a series of tasks and develop flexible strategies for generating, revising, editing, and proof-reading the assigned papers. I shuddered at the sheer thought of having to write five papers. Narrative, Evaluation, Profile, Position. These words might as well have been written in another language because I had no idea how to differentiate between them. Despite my fears, I believe this semester’s English 101 course has truly helped me develop my writing skills and advance to a more capable writer. Throughout my life English has always been my most difficult subject. Even back in elementary school I would have 100 percent averages in all of my other classes except English. I do not know what it was that challenged me so much but I had a terrible time. With the start of my high school career coincided the beginning of my paper writing experiences. I would work for hours each day trying my best to write a paper that made sense and would flow smoothly between paragraphs. My countless hours of work, however, never seemed to pay off. Every single paper that I had returned to me from my teachers was always covered in bright red Sharpie marker, usually with a large “B” circled somewhere on the front. The words “hard to follow” were...
