Selena and The DinosBy:Spencer GayheartSelena Quintanilla’s music influenced many people of the 1980’s and 1990’s. Selena’s dad persuaded her into singing and starting a band. Her family started a band called Selana and The Dinos. Music meant everything to her and her family. Selena’s family bought a tour bus that they lived in while she performed at different venues. Her parents traveled everywhere with the band because of how invloved they were. Selena’s fans practically worshipped her and the band. that sold Selena merchandise like perfume, make-up, and hair products. Because she was popular, she profited of her merhcandise. Selena put Yolanda Saldivar in charge of the money made from the store. This choice eventually led to theft and Selena’s murder. Yolanda was also Mexican-American just like Selena. Saldivar never really specified why she took Selena’s life, but speculation points to envy, jealously, and greed. She is currently serving time in prison for the crime she commited, but she is scheduled for parole in 2025. Sadly, Selena died at age of 23 at the hand of Yolanda Saldivar. The media paints the picture of Selena’s murder due to jealousy and greed. Just after her death, fans went crazy by buying her merchandise. Soon the stores had bare shelves because people wanted something to remind them of her. Selena was inspired by many people such as Madonna and Janet Jackson. In return, she inspired Selena Gomez, Katie Perry, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Demi Lovato Sources
