Selena Quintanilla is known as the “Queen of Tejano Music” a type of Mexican music that included other styles, such as country. Selena began performing as a child. Selena was a Latin recording artist. Selena Quintanilla made her recording introduction in the '80s, where she is going to develop into an award-winning recording artist in the Latin music scene with albums like Amor Prohibido and Selena Live. Selena was killed by Yolanda Saldivar the president of her fan club. Selena’s last album was Dreaming of You, it was released posthumously in 1995.
Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971 she was the daughter of Abraham Jr. and Marcella Quintanilla. She was born in Lake Jackson, Texas. Selena’s father led a band that played early rock and roll songs that were also mixed with traditional Mexican music during the 1950 and 1960s. This typed of music would later be known as Tejano music. It later became very popular throughout the southwest United States and Mexico. Selena’s dad eventually gave up his music career to start a family.

Millions mourned her death and with this attention she became even more famous. Dreaming of You, the album released after her death in 1995 contained five songs sung in English. It also contained a number of traditional Tejano songs. The album was a huge hit and sold more than a million copies. It was the wide success that Selena had always hoped for. The album also introduced Tejano music to millions of new fans. At the Houston Astrodome, a place she often performed, she was honored with a memorial concert. A movie was made about her life, starring Jennifer Lopez , a year later. Her life, legacy, and accomplishments will continue to live on through her fans and family. She demanded to know why she could not learn an instrument. Abraham told Selena that she was too young, so Selena decided to sing instead. Abraham saw Selena’s talent when she was six years old. Selena’s family garage was then converted into a soundproof studio. Selena’s dad bought a set of drums, and obtained a bass from a friend. Afterwards her father taught her how to sing in spanish.
