Pythagorean Quadratic
Ahmed’s half of the map doesn’t indicate which direction the 2x + 6 paces should go, we can assume that his and Vanessa’s paces should end up in the same place. I did this out on scratch piece of paper and I saw that it forms a right triangle with 2x + 6 being the length of the hypotenuse, and x and 2x + 4 being the legs of the triangle. Now I know how I can use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve for x. The Pythagorean Theorem states that in every right triangle with legs of length a and b and hypotenuse c, these lengths have the formula of a2 + b2 = c2.
Let a = x, and b = 2x + 4, so that c = 2x + 6.
Then, by putting these measurements into the Theorem equation we have x2 + (2x + 4)2 = (2x + 6)2. The binomials into the Pythagorean Thermo x2 + 4x2 + 16x + 16 = 4x2 + 24x + 36 are the binomials squared. Then 4x2 on both sides of the equation which can be (-4x2 -4x2) subtracted out first leaving the equation to be x2 + 16x + 16 = 24x + 36. Next we should subtract 16x from both sides of equation, which then leaves us with: x2 +16 = 8x + 36. The next step would then be to subtract 36 from both sides to get a result of. x2 -20= 8x. Finally we need to subtract 8x from both sides to get x2 – 8x – 20 =0. Now we have a quadratic equation to solve by factoring and using the zero factor. (x –) (x +) = 0 since the coefficient of x2 is 1 we can start with a pair of parenthesis with an x in each. Since the 20 is negative we know there will be one + and one – in the binomials. I noticed that in order for a number to multiply to -20 and add up to -8 the numbers would then have to be -10 and 2.

'Boven Roc Rally 2011 – an Organizers Perspective.

...psyche! The weeks leading up to the Rally one has to say, is often slightly stressful for us. There are logistical nightmares of getting people, food and music to the sleepy railway town of Waterval Boven on the edge of the Mpumalanga escarpment. Without going into the boring details of the comedies of errors that struck on the last hour, you know things are not going to plan when the tick list starts growing onto the next page instead of slowly diminishing as the master plan is supposed to unfold. Why on earth did I ever utter the thought: “Hey, let's pull a generator across the top of Baboon Buttress, light up the crags below and have some night climbing on the Friday!”? By mid Friday afternoon nothing more could go wrong. Some friends and volunteers were still out at the crags putting up the last fixed top anchors on routes for us. Everything was roughly in place and there was a distinct calmness over me and the atmosphere around Tranquiltas Adventure Farm. The quiet before the storm. The camp site had steadily filled up from early in the week but during the day most climbers bailed from work and were now milling about, pitching...

...performance in a given situation, or delivering a special project. Typical rewards are money in a form of a bonus, trips paid for by the company, gifts from a rewards catalog, or services such as cell phone or paid cable. TYPES OF REWARDS Selecting the appropriate rewards is vital to any programs success. The goal in choosing rewards is to select items that will spark the participant’s interest or feelings, and support the program’s objectives. Effective rewards will both motivate short-term behavior and provide motivation over time. VARIABLE PAY Variable pay or pay-for-performance is a compensation program in which a portion of a person's pay is considered "at risk." Variable pay can be tied to the performance of the company, the results of a business unit, an individual's accomplishments, or any combination of these. It can take many forms, including bonus programs, stock options, and one-time awards for significant accomplishments. Some companies choose to pay their employees less than competitors but attempt to motivate and reward employees using a variable pay program instead. According to Shawn Tully in Fortune , "The test of a good pay-for-performance plan is simple: It must motivate managers to produce earnings growth that far exceeds the extra cost of [the program]. Though employees should be made to stretch, the goals must be within reach." BONUSES Bonus programs have been used in American business for some time. They usually reward individual accomplishment...
