Throughout history the practice of senseless killing has been a part of human nature since the beginning of time. This killing is often “justified” as necessary to have peace and is called war. War has always been a part of time and seen as morally justifiable for the correct reasons but this is simply not true because war is completely irrational, does not accomplish anything and a long forgone dated practice. War has been a common practice of killing to accomplish a task such as peace but this practice is irrational. As James Boswell states in On War “It is as if two towns in opposite territories should be set on fire at the same time, and the victory should be declared to the inhabitants of that in which the flames were least destructive”. Boswell uses this simile to compare war to burning towns to show that the practice of murder and destruction of fellow humans is irrational. Beginning with the War of 1812, the United States of America and Britain were fighting because Britain was impressing U.S sailors and blocking U.S trade routes. After years of fighting and tens of thousands of deaths for both forces the war finally ended, with no change in any system. Even after all of the deaths and the war, Britain still continued to impress our sailors and block our trade routes; this shows war accomplishes nothing. In another instance the United States went to assist South Vietnam by fighting their oppressor the North Vietnamese. After years of fighting the United States left that region with a “win” in the sense that they lost less men on the battle field but nothing changed for the people the U.S was assisting. Both of these wars with no change in policy and only significant deaths are the perfect examples of how war accomplishes nothing more than burden and
