Chaplain Wilson has been in church ministry practically all her adult life. She has served churches in Atlanta, Florida, Rhode Island and Yokosuka Japan. She has served in the traditional setting as a choir director and as a youth pastor. She has a B.A. degree from Georgia State University in church ministries and received his Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Autumn has heart for missions, both locally and internationally, and sees herself finishing her career in the mission field overseas where she currently reside at in Yokosuka Japan. Observations Chaplain Wilson is a transformational leader. The mission statement onboard ship is KNOW the Lord, Grow in the word, and Go into the entire world preaching his name.’ She has a passion and enthusiasm for those locally and internationally. It was a devotion to the Word that would begin and fuel the ministry that Spurgeon would devote most of his lifetime to. He was a preacher, a writer, and the founder of a number of great institutions. Each area of Spurgeon’s life continues to inspire and thrive today. LIFE AND DEATH Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was born at Kelvedon, in Essex. His father, John, and Grandfather, James, were both Independent (Congregational) pastors and evangelical Calvinists. Charles’ mother Eliza bore seventeen children with only eight of them surviving through infancy. Due to the hardship that his parents faced, Charles was sent to live with his grandfather in Stambourne. It was in Stambourne where Spurgeon learned to walk, talk and read with the aid of his aunt Ann. During his early teen years, Spurgeon enrolled in an agricultural college with the aspirations of becoming a farmer. Being a non-denominational establishment, means that they do consider themselves Christians without determining which branch Christianity they belong to. Basically, they worship god and accept anyone who does the same. Since I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, it was quite a different experience. When I first arrived I was immediately greeted by several people welcoming me to the church and asking me if I needed help finding my way around. I was very surprised by the amount of hospitality these people presented themselves with, because typically in a Catholic church everyone sort of sticks to themselves. Everyone was dressed in a different manner, in everything from gym clothes to a work uniform, the message portrayed in this was come as you are. “Sunday’s best” was paid no mind in this church. The room was an auditorium type set up with a huge big screen projector allowing everyone in the building to clearly see the pastor. There were no pews, no statues, no crosses, no deacons, no priest, instead, a band came out and started playing up-beat lively music. The people at the church really got into the music. Everyone was singing and dancing to the songs, and this went on for a good twenty minutes. This is much different from what I am used to because at the Catholic Church...

A segmented-programmatic church means that the family is never together and are all learning something different. However, many churches have found that this method is becoming old and they are finding it to no longer work with today’s times. Researchers have shown that 70 percent of young people leave the church by age 22 this is because churches are failing to bring in young worshipers and keep new the old ones. Now, many churches are starting to lean towards a more family-integrated service. A family-integrated service is one in which all of the different classes you get with segmented model is eliminated. There is no youth group or children’s church, everything is done in the main sanctuary and the family is always together. The segmented-programmatic church model came out of the nineteenth century when school systems started putting students in tightly in tightly-graded classes. The church saw that this was a functioning model in society and they believe that it would work within their walls. The segmented-programmatic model has a couple good things that can come out of it; however, there are many bad things that come from it.
