Attack Prevention
Internet security is a major area of concern for individuals and all sizes and types of business. Almost everyone uses the internet for business and personal transactions. All sorts of personal and secure information are passes in cyber space. Individuals use social security information for credit checks, to apply for loans, get credit reports and to secure their own identity for transactions. Business uses corporate information for purchases and commerce on the World Wide Web, as well as within their own business transactions to pay bill or make purchases and communication with off sites. All information needs to secure to protect data of all its employees as well as securities of the business itself. This needs to be accomplished within their intranet, extranet and across the web on a corporate level.
There are many levels to steal information or attack the private information. Cyber-attacks can threaten critical infrastructures such as our power source, communication, water system, oil, gas and transportation. The attack can originate internally or from an outside source. Attacks can initiate from software, malware, viruses or a combination of some or all. To protect from attacks there are three major areas of concern. The network need to make sure there is a secure firewall that will drop corrupt packets before they reach the internal server and monitor all traffic at all times to be able to block unwanted traffic. The host needs to have a HTTP and TCP time out at a reasonable time. The third area to watch is to make sure all patches on the server are up to date. Have a specific length for all passwords and an short expiration date for them. Never choose the remember password feature. Make sure the security of who is allowed to access what information with a
