SES Response Socioeconomic status (SES) is a word used to describe a person’s social location based on all three dimensions of the stratification system. Those three dimensions are wealth, prestige, and power. Wealth is people’s economic assets and here in the U.S. our income plays apart in what class we are ranked in. Prestige is the social esteem or honor that is accorded to particular people by others, and here in the U.S. our occupation plays a part in it. Power is a social relationship in which people are able to realize their will, even against the resistance of others, and in the U.S. it can come from wealth, status, or other sources. All three apply to me and my lifestyle. I rank in the class system. This system is where the boundaries between classes are more permeable, a person’s socioeconomic position depends more on achievement, and there are fairly frequent opportunities to change social position. This affects my lifestyle, by me getting a higher education and getting far in life. My family was always the lower class until my mother and father both graduated college. I never want my children to feel the way my parents did as children. I want to give them the life my parents gave me and be brought up in the Lord.

Team Work in the Automotive Industry

...Bastian Steppin LDR:460 Professor: Dr. Kecia Edwards April 2014 IMPORTANCE OF EFFECTIVE TEAMWORK IN THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY This paper focuses on effective teamwork and how important it is for the automobile industry. This Industry is very fast moving and one false decision can cost millions of dollars for the company and can cost thousands of peoples jobs in case that the company goes bankrupt. The carmakers are on search for every cent that they can safe during the research, development, and also during the production process of a new vehicle. Of course, there are different ways to cut the cost in this industry. One way would be to use cheap and low-quality metals, another way would be to use cheap and less skilled employees. However the problem with these two approaches would be that they would harm the quality of the final product. The customer usually wants a high quality car for a low price and also low using cost. Therefore, the idea of using cheap and low quality metals, and also assembling the car by using unskilled and cheap labor, would finally result in the loss of customers and therefore the loss of business. The right way to do it is to find the right balance between price and quality. This right balance is very important for the companies and effective teamwork helps them to accomplish this goal. If a company does not use its resources in the most effective way and also does not use effective teamwork, then it will eventually suffer from its decisions. For...

...Abstract The report provides a consolidated preview of the external environment of Ashok Leyland and the Indian automobile industry. This study will take us through the evaluation of external factors using EFE matrix, to the comparison of the company with its competitors (CPM) and study the incentives given by the government to encourage the expansion of the Indian automobile industry. Introduction The Indian Automotive Industry after de-licensing in July 1991 has grown at a spectacular rate on an average of 17% for last few years. The industry has attained a turnover of USD $35.8 billion, (INR 165,000 crores) and an investment of USD 10.9 billion. The industry has provided direct and indirect employment to 13.1 million people. But lately the Indian automobile industry has been going through a low phase since the past 10 months and experts believe that situation is going to sustain in the current financial year that ends in March 2014. Demands continue to remain low as against the expectations of the Indian auto makers, due to the crisis in the economy, increase in fuel prices and loan rates. Until few years ago, this industry boomed with sales but the falling value of Indian rupee is only bringing its depreciation. (Car trade, n.d) The market is divided into four segments namely two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Business Communication

...Business Communication Audiences Michelle Warner COM/285 Introduction to Business Communication December 23, 2009 Richard Turney Business Communication Audience Fresenius Medical Care’s quarterly sales information is available and must be presented to the stakeholders, which include managers, salespeople, and customers. An in-person meeting will be held to present the material. The audience must be considered carefully in deciding how to effectively communicate the information. The characteristics of each group is taken into account, along with the best channel of communication, the groups’ diversity is also considered, all to make sure the message is effective. Communication must always be designed with the audience in mind. One must consider the characteristics of the three groups. Demographics, which are measurable features such as age, sex, and education level can help one reach the target audience (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). Another tool available is psychographic characteristics, which are qualitative instead of quantitative such as beliefs, goals, and lifestyles (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). This information is usually readily available for customers through the corporate marketing department. Human resources can help provide the same information for the employees. The use of these tools will allow the presenter to find common ground between the groups and tailor the information to suit. I find that my audience is mostly between 40 and 50 years of...

Business Communication Trends

...Business Communication Trends Simone N. Gary COM/285 August 30, 2010 Gary Smith Business Communication Trends Communication plays a very important role in an organization. In fact, it is said to be the life wire of the organization. Nothing in the universe, human or otherwise, that does not communicate; though the means of communication may be very different. Communication is an essential component for a business to be successful. “Without a good line of communication mistakes will be made that could cost the company wasted time, wasted effort, lost goodwill, and legal issues” (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). New discoveries within the technological world are made every day. These changes are causing businesses to upgrade quickly and adjust to the new technology. One of the major changes is communication. Businesses are now communicating though social-networking tools, portable media players, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and cell phones. Communication helps me manage daily activities. I am employed as a financial coordinator for Fresenius Medical Care. Upon my arrival at work I set up my computer with needed programs to assist my patients. My position requires that I travel to several facilities within Texas on a daily basis, so my employer communicates with me via email, instant messenger, or my company cell phone. Without these lines of communication within my company, I would not have access to vital information to perform my job. “The...

...Since 1973, Caterpillar has remanufactured diesel engines and components for its own machines and power systems. What began as a small operation to meet the product support needs of our truck engine customers has grown to include more than 700 products, including hydraulics, drivetrain, fuel systems and even tires. In 2004, Caterpillar announced plans to offer remanufacturing services to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Remanufacturing Services business takes a Caterpillar core competency into new markets. We entered the automotive remanufacturing business on Sept. 1, 2004, by acquiring Williams Technologies in the United States and Wealdstone Engineering in the United Kingdom. Since then we’ve grown quickly in the auto, industrial and electronics markets and formed key alliances with OEMs in related industries. Reman’s contribution to diversified growth continued with the acquisition of Progress Rail. This exciting new business marks Caterpillar’s entry into a full line of rail aftermarket services, including remanufacturing. In December 2006, Progress Rail became a separate division within Caterpillar. We recently expanded our presence in Asia with the opening of a facility in Shanghai, China. In mid-2007, we completed our acquisition of Eurenov S.A., expanding our European presence in automotive and industrial engine and transmission remanufacturing. In January of 2007, Reman acquired Franklin Power Products and International Fuel Systems, based in Franklin...
