Sex work is an extremely controversial and significant global issue, especially with its health risks, perceived exploitive nature, and its concepts on sex. Today in the sex industry, “at least 700,000 and possibly as many as four million men, women, and children worldwide were bought, sold, transported, and held against their will in slave- like conditions” (Shah 2003) and “almost all the street workers and over half the brothel workers reported high levels of drug use” (Pyett 1997). Despite this already tremendous amount of generated profit, technology experts including Katie Aquino and Davecat argue how this industry can further be expanded with the addition of sexbots; not only would sexbots further increase the availability and affordability of sex services, but it would also significantly reduce STD treatment and program costs (Brown 2015). Furthermore, the increased implementation would create a new business front and spur the growth of technology in the economy (Brown 2015). Davecat and Aquino’s argument, however, may be biased since Katie is pro-tech herself and Davecat is the owner of a sex doll industry. In addition, the two’s argument primarily focuses on the technologization’s effects on the potential customers and fails to discuss the economic impact on sex
